  1. When you get a chance log on to Command Center and check everything is up to date. Even Platinum. Then for sure make a back up copy of the command centre download folder. It will have all your irreplaceable installers stored there. Also go to your my products page( I think that’s what it is called) and copy paste all you serial numbers to a word document kept this safe it’s worth a lot of money and if they ever do shut down the server it will be lost. just to add I have installed the Bandlab Cakewalk on at least 6 systems that all had old versions installed. Everything still works.
  2. To prove there is no weirdness with phase or automation take one track and pull it out of sync by a 1/32 note. You should hear the delay between the tracks and even through the 8 bars
  3. Back in the Green Day era the bands all wanted that big fat sound. Back then I was lucky to have 1 eq and 1 compressor. My method was we would double track the same big fat Marshall amp guitar and pan it hard left and right. The bass player used a pick and the eq was more low mids than sub bass. And I would put a eq boost at about 500hz on the kick. The guitars had a lot of low end and in those days you didn’t have fancy graphics to show them you used your ears ?
  4. Trouble shooting is a process of elimination. Best practice is to swap things out until issues goes away. This can include things like USB ports and cables.
  5. This was all stated in about the 6 th post by me I said go to the Yamaha web site and look for the model and see if there are any downloads. The op seems to have bought it second hand so manual and CD might not have been there
  6. I didn't see the post with the whole song sorry, In context with the song the drums sounded a lot better. Mostly because the guitars drown them out but that's not a bad thing. You have some great guitar parts. Its an interesting sound scape you obviously put a lot of work into it. Keep it up. PS- This kind of belongs in the song forum?
  7. So did you try replacing ez drummer with SI drums.
  8. Thanks Steve Didn't find those You are the most amazing person I know for finding stuff! I'm reading as I reply. It Will take a while,, I totally forgot this thing has SPDIF! that seems the ticket. It's like a combo VST Hardware set up from what I'm reading. It will be very cool after all these years to get this to work. The big hurdle was the software. It's on a CD so nothing changed there, but something in Widows is now corrected. My guess is it wanted a Visual C++ that I didn't have before.
  9. I did try and google this and seems nobody else got it to work but those posts are from 2008 ! I even logged on to the Harman forum bugg to it’s not very active
  10. You should get that sorted out. There is hundreds of dollars worth of goods in there that you should have all backed up and backed up 3 fold or more. when Sonar was discontinued by Gibson we all collectively came up with a survival plan. That includes copying everything in the command centre download folder to a few storage drives and making a document for all those serial numbers.
  11. Don’t reinstall Cakewalk. That rarely the issue. But do download the latest drivers for the interface and install. This sounds like a driver issue. Make sure you have optimized for audio Is the interface a thunderbolt? There can be issues with that if you have the wrong chipset
  12. I love this hardware unit and it was in my live rig mostly for a few years. I continue to hook it up in the studio and in the past would just cable it up to my interface. But included with the unit is a CD with software I have tried to install it a few times and would always get some errors. I was told that the software was only for Windows XP. I just managed to install it to my W7 laptop and got all excited because it worked. I could select and edit and save patches. Cool. but what about this rumour that it was used as a VST inside a DAW? I managed to install it to my W10 machine and it worked fine there as well. On a hunch I opened the CD and yep, there’s a mx200.dll. So drop it in VST folder and it shows up in CbB. But, you insert the VST and the lexicon mix app shows up and says it can’t find the device. so looking in preferences I find it as a midi in /out option. Ticking that said cannot connect out of memory? has anybody ever gotten this app to work?
  13. Tascam make good interfaces and the new generation seem to have real good drivers. I still use a us1641 without issue. I set it at Normal. The control panel doesn't use numbers but I think that's 256. I see the 4x4 is NOT bus powered - good. because I was going to point my finger at that. I'm having to buy a PCI USB card for my Motu M4 just because of stupid bus power. I'm getting pour sound right now with simple projects just like you. Motu sent me this document you might want to read. Troubleshooting USB Audio Problems on Windows.pdf I might be sending my Motu back and Tascam is high on my list of replacements. The Scarlett 4i4 is missing to many features compaired to the Tascam and the Motu. And having a power supply is one of them.
  14. I'll just be honest- it sounds like a 5 year old kids first attempt at drumming with all those crashes in this world there are no rules but as far as a normal pop / rock mix goes there's just too much wrong with that. .
  15. Yes the Solo is great if that’s all the connections you need. But best to think of the future and make a list of what you might need. myself I need 4 inputs and 4 outputs and midi. out of the lower price interface market Focusrite Scarlett series are probably most popular and solid performance Not to mention they give you a lot of extra goodies with a collection of free high quality VST’s These are worth more than the interface itself
  16. @InstrEd now you’re scaring me. A $600 keyboard ? I have used a Roland 49 key controller since 1985. First one died a few years ago so replaced with the latest model A 49. $130. Nice and compact. Runs on buss power or a standard 9 volt adapter. Has both Din midi and usb and I love how it plays something that people don’t think about if they are not keyboard players. best of all it comes with a good midi driver. I find this is important. I never have issues with the Roland. I can turn it on with a project open and Cake asks if I want to use it. I also have an Akai key station 25 it uses generic drivers and is always disconnecting and requires rebooting Cakewalk to connect. I believe in only buying gear that comes with real drivers be it midi or ASIO.
  17. I was told the USB 2 is more than capable and that there was no advantage to “ faster” ports. That was a few years ago so might have changed. But the reason to use the PCI card is power not speed. Bus power sucks just try and run 2 phantom powered mikes with that. im going to order a USB card myself after reading that document and see if that gets rid of my glitching at 256 buffers. It makes sense that my Scarlett doesn’t glitch it uses a power supply the Motu is glitchy due to crummy bus power
  18. To explain what happened is a full length novel. Basically Gibson went bankrupt and just pulled the plug. We all made plans and actually x3 was a part of that because it was the last version you could activate without a server. lots of long time users jumped ship to other DAWs and the forum was flooded with talk about which one to switch to and out of left field Bandlab buys it and said it’s now free. They kept staff and set them to focusing on bugs and stability. So what we still have is our favourite DAW , it’s free and it’s hugely improved. Welcome back.
  19. yes and look like you haven’t used it yet as nothing is really set up. Watch the video to learn. @msmcleod The mix control is from gen 1&2 gen 3 uses a new software called just Control. The 4i4 is first in the line that uses it. Units below 4i4 don’t use it I was and still may purchase an 8i6 so I watched the video and read the manual. Good way to really see what your getting. To bad I didn’t do that with the Motu. basically they removed a few buttons from the front panel and put them in the software. I’d rather have real buttons but I guess it keeps the cost down. There are idiot lights on the front to show what has been toggled at least @Dean you really should read all documents that come with any hardware you purchase it’s complicated stuff but is usually clearly explained in the manual
  20. I wasn't talking down, why do people say that when people try to help.. Must be tone of my voice I guess Nobody had answered you so I was only stating what I would do. Anyhow I don't know the answer but that thread told me everything I needed to know about that reverb. And personally there are a LOT of reverbs out there and I don't waist time with anything that causes me grief for 1 second. Just not worth it. Your call. I tested it here by the way and it seems to work fine. It's very metallic sounding to my ears I guess that's why I don't use it. I still like the Lexicon that we got back some time ago with Sonar, but just recently I've started using the Acon Digital Verbate Basic. I got it from the free section of PLug in Boutique. https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/17-Reverb/5968-Verberate-Basic-2 It's silky smooth.
  21. Troubleshooting USB Audio Problems on Windows.pdf I got this from Motu yesterday covers most things worth doing.
  22. Did you set the midi tracks input to the A-500? In my signature is a link to all my tutorials on midi.
  23. Looks like your going to need a Audio interface with a midi port, No point wasting money on a midi only interface. It's pretty important to use a Audio interface anyway. The Focusrite 4i4 might be perfect. It has the extra inputs for keyboards and the MIDI jacks. Uh, Oh Oh, I just looked at the picture.. I don't see a midi port! That must be a Home type keyboard which most didn't have midi. Looks like you can add a keyboard controller to that shopping list. Cakewalk is free but to make things work properly you sort of have to spend some cash on some hardware that makes it work. Audio interface- Most important part of a DAW system. Mike- unless your singing real sucks. Keyboard controller- So you can enter midi data, even with terrible playing skills because you can edit midi till the cows come home. Studio monitors - so you can hear your wonderful creations in all their glory. Good headphones- So you can hear all those mistakes you didn't hear in the monitors. The price range is huge and you can outfit a studio for as low as under $500 or just keep adding zeros.
  24. What is the model number? The USB port might just be for firmware updates which was common back then. Go to the Yamaha site and search for your model and see what is available under downloads.
  25. I found this was hit or miss. It depended on the track I chose to drag to the time line. Example, drag a guitar, Bass or Kick it's a no go. But for me a snare seems to work best. So one solution is if there is no audio snare then create one with midi and a VST, bounce it to clip or freeze the VST and now drag that to the time line. It's not that hard to play a snare without a metronome to most music.
