I have the dongle elicencer and my computer is off line. I can only recall once an error where I had to update it to get rid of the nag screen. But my software still worked and I remember it worked for a few months before I finally updated it. So it is my understanding that the elicencer doesn’t need the internet to work. Only if I goes looking for an update.

I’m lazy. I just export my mix. Open the browser and drag and drop onto track pane. I leave the count in so I can line it up with the multi track

Actually it’s a good idea to post your solution so your thread can then be useful to others over time. I Get many answers to my questions about just about anything from old forum posts scattered around the net.

Right on- I knew you had it figured out, just wasn't clear. I really do appreciate the test. I just could not figure out how to get ASIO4all as an input? It shows in Windows and it shows as an option in Cakewalk but when you choose it nothing happens. This was both with on board and with my Scarlett. But your tests sort of confirmed my expectations. I'm just working on my next video which is about using on board sound. I've been screwing around with different set ups and on different computers. My conclusion is for playback there is absolutely no issues at all. But for trying to input audio you are right back to needing an interface. First the better drivers, next the proper connectivity and third there's no easy way to have real time monitoring . Your stuck with turning on input echo and suffering the slap back delay. Fine if your recording Elvis tunes. So I was only hoping that asio4all might be a solution to the timing offset issue and get the RTL down lower. Looks like WDM or WASAPI is the no brainer.

When I make tutorials using OBS I have to switch to WASAPI SHARED driver mode so OSB will capture Cakewalks output as well as my mike. Otherwise you need an external mixer. I end up with 2 input faders in OBS which is great so I can balance the mix between the narration and Cakewalk playback. Only issue is I have not figured out how to monitor this. The other bummer is you cannot demonstrate an ASIO set up in Cakewalk. So for that I use an external mixer. I have 4x4 interfaces but you could get by with a 2x2. I run interface output 3/4 into a stereo channel of the mixer. This will be my Cakewalk playback now.. I also plug the mike into the mixer I connect the mixers output to input 3/4 of interface. and then set inputs 3/4 as desktop audio in OBS. I like the mixer best as now I can also monitor the balance using either the mixer or my interface headphone jack. I can also monitor the signal level more accurately. OBS meters are sort of off the mark.

Cakewalk can be easily set to auto save. And it most certainly always warns you to save if you try to close it. It actually warns you even if you didn’t change anything. It a good habit to open a new project using a template which you can either use the examples or make your own then it will be named and always saved. if you open a midi file you will need to use “save as” and choose “normal “ which will convert it into a CWP File. You should do this before you make any changes to it. in my signature are links to my tutorials on midi

So what I see in @Glenn Stanton tests is on board audio outperforming ASIO4all. Is this correct. Glen do you get a warning when you run the RTL utility with asio4all. With my on board it warns me the information might be out by 50% because of the driver reporting incorrectly to the utility. I'm seeing at the same buffer setting asio4all is 32 ms RTL On board is 10 ms RTL So one again? why use asio4all? I don't see any benefits at all?? Won't your mixer work with WASAPI? In the loopback WDM was the best results. I'm getting 10 to 12 ms late offset with my on board audio on 3 different systems in WASAPI exclusive mode. That is not great but seems way better than the same setting when using any of my audio interfaces where the very lowest was around 58 ms. I will have to test the offset setting and see if I can get them to line up. This is getting interesting. I would still like to know if @paulo has tried a loopback to correct his offset and if it is stable.

So you saved the project as a CWP file. How did you open it this morning? You probably opened the wrong file. The recent list can’t always be trusted. use the file menu and browse to the folder you keep your project in and open it from there. Cakewalk is very stable you just need to take the time to learn. Try watching the tutorials by Creative Sauce first.

You should really watch the tutorials on basic recording as from what you have written you are way off the mark. It takes to long for me to type basic instructions and the videos do a great job of explaining. we have a tutorials sub forum here and I recommend the videos by Creative Sauce. it’s well worth the time spent when you start out.

Are you talking TRACKs or LANEs there's a difference. Lanes will be silenced.

There's lots of info about working with clips. I never work with loops so I am not the right person to answer, But there's another thread just a few days ago and it sounded pretty simple to make loops match the song. There will be a bunch of videos about it too. I only showed the length tool as that is the closest Cakewalk comes to varispeed. True Varispeed changes the tempo and the pitch.

I think the OP is just asking how to export the songs which Jonsey briefly answered. Myself from now on I'm waiting until there is a post count of 3 or more before I start typing. Has been a lot of 1 post topics lately.

The Process Length tool does not change the pitch of the audio and you can go a certain percentage without noticeable artifacts. Any process to audio can cause artifacts as it is just re-arranging the ones and zeros. I myself use wave lab for this as I find the quality a little better. But I did try the Cakewalk tool a few times without audable issues. Can't remember the amount but I think I was only after speeding up a whole song by 20 BPM. I only processed the Mastered stereo file, not the whole multi track.

That’s right. Cakewalk is a standard windows program so all mouse behaviour is like any windows program. I do believe that for full touch screen behaviour the software needs to be designed from the ground up as in tablet or phone OS Cakewalk is pure windows 100% I think Bandlab would be touch screen friendly

@Joel Stolarski Then you need to use the percussion setting in Melodyne. I would also try Drum Replacer it creates 3 tracks and you can mess with the sensitivity to get better results. Then what I do is drag the drum replacer track to a midi track You will still need to move the notes to the correct key to trigger the sounds you want But Drum replacer can sort out a bit more than Melodyne will

@paulo So did you perform the loop back test and adjust your timing offset?

@Glenn Stanton Thanks for testing ASIO4ALL This verified the 2 possibilities. Either it would behave like ASIO and be right on time or it would behave like WDM and be late. So as reported by others is that Asio4all is really just WDM in a wrapper. Looking at your results they seem worse than what I got using my Realtek sound card without going through asio4all is it you RTL is less with Asio4all? The timing offset is one thing. But RTL is another. Not that I think you could ever get it low enough to be used with on board sound.

Obviously Mike is not an active forum member so unlikely he'll ever see your post, You need to start your own thread and state your issues clearly including system info like your audio interface etc. The more info the faster we can solve your problem. But start a new thread otherwise its a hijack which is confusing.

That's right, Your lucky it's CWP as that's the easiest of all formats to use in the new version. Just open the fines and sort out the few things that might not jive and your audio and MIdi should all be the exact same as when you saved it 15 years ago. As Treesha has said, it will only be any outdated plug ins and possible those were 32 bit anyhow, so good to start with new stuff.

In this video I explain about driver modes and how they work for using an Audio Interface that has ASIO drivers. At the very end I test on Board audio where you will see that my test showed that WASAPI exclusive was by far the best mode for a Realtech driver. I'm just working on a second video that goes into detail about using on board audio.

As a side note to this. You could even do that in the old Home Studio version of Sonar. It’s been built in to the core program for a long time now I mostly have converted all my analog bass tracks to midi for my backing tracks. This way every song is identical so the mix is consistent from song to song. I did this for probably 60 projects. There’s some minor editing always needed but it certainly works.

I use the conversion all the time. You drag and drop the audio to a midi track. Make sure to choose the correct setting.

Oh no. I have a sound craft signature 10 mixer and the driver was sort of ok definitely not as good as Focusrite Tascam or Motu. It’s made by Harman I think Harman is with Korg. but after one year of light occasional use at a few gigs it no longer works. It seems the connection port or possibly the chip inside is fried. This is unacceptable as I’m very careful about gear. I got no where’s on the user forum and with support. you are better off with a proper interface. Mixer interfaces seem iffy It’s a good mixer. The compressor sucked but it was best bang for the buck for channel count ant aux sends. All made in China even though it has British flag on it.
