Yes as always right under my nose.

And you just ignored two posts that gave you the solution
-
Well thanks everyone I think it’s clear to me how this works now. my reason for posting is it was not clear to me with the research I was doing because the internet is full of very outdated information about Cakewalk. A lot of the tutorials are also outdated. Then crazy things like this Pro Channel Context menu. How on earth would anyone find that? After Steve mentioned it’s existence I had to totally dig around before I found it buy using logic.
-
I opened a midi file I had just been working on. I've never opened the pro channel or changed a setting and this is a fairly new fresh install. Anyhow the question is I find this toggle misleading as I would assume POST EFFECT RACK means "after the effects rack." At least post always meant after in my world of audio. Hmm, I just opened a Basic Template and the Post effect rack was unchecked. I also opened a random project and it too was unchecked. So weirdness. My advice will be that you better check this if you plan on using both the track bin and the Pro Channel.

@Colin Nicholls @scook Is this where you are saying you can change it. It would seem so, My setting by default shows Post or after the track effects or is this just badly labeled?
-
Thanks Steve, that was exactly the info I was looking for. Man you really have to dig around Cakewalk as there seems to be endless places to customize. I've always stuck with using the effects bin as it is more visible in most views. But the importance of placing certain effects at an exact point in the signal path makes the Pro Channels effects chain indispensable because it gives you full control of this. One really needs to understand exactly where the compressor is in the signal chain or it might be pointless to use it.
-
I'm working on a tutorial for using effects. I can't really see a different in signal path between the track effect bin and pro channel modules. Example, what is the difference between putting a reverb in the Track Effects Bin or putting it in the Pro Channels Effects Chain? This diagram is a little confusing as it seems to show a switching point hat chooses one path or the other which we know is not correct. Anyone have better information about this detail of the signal path in Cakewalk? @Noel Borthwick @Craig Anderton and a whole bunch of you of who I know are much smarter than me.

The virtual controller is found in the views menu. You can choose a piano or QWERTY keyboard. It does seem to disappear sometimes but if you choose the piano version then pressing computer keyboard won’t toggle terrible things don’t use the computer keyboard. It’s dangerous!

Noob question; How do I create a reverb send?
John Vere replied to PAUL KEENAN's topic in Instruments & Effects
The only thing different was in the new video I showed the console view. As a result of this and other similar posts I’ve now made a simple tutorial about work spaces -
Help Needed - How to Not Let Sonar Artist Adjust Volume?
John Vere replied to Acosean AMME's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Sometimes there are corrupt projects and very hard to know why. And the solution often is to just make a new one and copy the data over from the old to the new in hopes that the corruption is left behind. one thing you could have done with your song was save it as a midi file and Open it to start over. -
A lot of videos on basics are now outdated.

It needs to be on line about once every 6 months to authorize

This is sort of what I do too. I had to think for a minute but I have been in the habit of using blank CWP, Projects, not templates. The results are the same. Or like @mdiemer I just open a project and delete the data and audio. Then use save as to create the fresh project. A lot of my project will start as midi files which are really blank projects. There isn't even a master bus. I'll use track templates to set those up. I also have dozens of CWP files that are just drum tracks that run for 200 measures. They are all copied out of my Roland 505 using midi sync. I can find a beat I need quickly that way. But I made those in Sonar 6 so there's certainly nothing going on there. Only time I use templates is when I am making a tutorial or I'll use the 16 track template when setting out to record a live band.

Thanks for clarification. I have been lazy since workspaces came out and never looked any deeper than the Advanced workspace seemed fine for me. I will be exploring deeper soon. To see what's up I just opened Cakewalk version 098 and chose Basic workspace. Yep lots of stuff missing but Events list was there, I have 2 computers with 098 and both were the same. My Main DAW, however, say's version 099? I think that was the early access version. But Event list is missing from the the Basic workspace View list in that version. I Updated even though that seems wrong, and now the event list is on the view list.

Delete won’t work if there’s a volume envelope
-
When faced with that I simply place the cursor at the 7th Measure Ctrl A to select all, Choose Split, in my case left of split will highlight, and hit delete. Now Ctrl A again and drag the data to measure 1 . Note never start any data at point 0. Always leave at least one measure before any data.

It is sort of like saying" why does the tempo always default to 120 BPM, I never use that" The answer is if you use software a little bit of set up is always going to be required and there are tools that do most of this for you like templates and workspaces. And I don't think it's possible to include every tiny little detail of your hearts desire using those tools. It is what it is.

Fair enough, I've personally never noticed a difference because the cursor behaves the way I expect it to. I would say the smart tool was a huge improvement to my workflow. So that said, I would also think the majority of Cakewalk users feel the same way and therefore the Software developers had to choose something and they choose the Smart tool as the default. So this becomes a feature request item and if enough people like the idea the developers just might include it in a future release.

In my signature is links to videos on using a midi file. They explain the steps to open the file and then change instruments etc.

Help Needed - How to Not Let Sonar Artist Adjust Volume?
John Vere replied to Acosean AMME's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@Acosean AMME It was what I expected. You did have a volume envelope. Deleting the envelope removes the event. -
So is what happened was at some point was the Event List removed from the Views list? I use it often and it’s always been on the views list.
-
I don’t understand? The views menu has everything. If it isn’t in my workspace it’s in the views menu. Have people abandoned the basic windows navigation system.
-
Just select the tool you want from the menu in the top left corner. Or am I missing something.

HELP how to do Multitrack recording with Alesis Multimix 4?
John Vere replied to GDog 07's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It says it can do this on the web site I suggest that you look there or in your manual for how to set this up. I am assuming it didn’t come with a ASIO. Driver. if so you will have to use WASAPI Mode That should show all available inputs If if doesn’t then do your self a favour and buy a real interface. or don’t use the USB. Go to the tutorials sub forum here and watch my video on using on board audio. but otherwise I think all you need to do is pan each channel left and right and choose the corresponding input for each track -
freezing without losing sound quality?
John Vere replied to Pascal Auger's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I was unaware that you were loosing quality when bouncing. I guess I never used it anyway. Modern computers seem to eliminate the need to have to do this now. But what I can think would work is to export the track and bring it back as an audio clip using the browser. or use Auxiliary sends and record in real time to a new track. actually there’s a lot of ways I can think of but all will result in the same thing
