  1. Why bother? It doesn't do anything your interface needs to work. There's been a few posts where people were using this and so I tried it myself and came to the conclusion it's more or less useless.
  2. Just to add for what you were doing there, you can also use the fade in and fade out feature. That’s how I normally handle clips. It’s faster than drawing nodes.
  3. Goodness I suffered the MT 32 for 5 years! It was my band. I had the editor made by Jeff Koftinoff . http://www.jdkoftinoff.com/main/Historic_Projects/Atari_MT-32_Editor/ He lived here in our town and later worked for Roland. His family owned the first Computer store here and sold Atari's and Roland. I bought my GR 50 and the MT 32 from them. I had 2 of those things as later a friend gave me there's. I actually chucked them both in the trash a few years ago as I figured not even a collector would want those terrible sounds. I think TTS_1 a little bit better. Edit: thanks to Terry I got the download sorted out . Will try the my 32 VST tomorrow
  4. And you end up with that Generic Driver that you have to delete in the Registry.. I have Cubase 5 so I have Halion and it's not much different than TTS-1. Just a little bit better effects which is easy to rectify with TTS-1 audio tracks. I have never managed to access it in Cakewalk. Haven't tried very had ?
  5. Open the tempo view and manually change the tempo. Not sure if it's possible to use tap tempo as the song plays but not hard just enter new tempos. You might need to read the new release info on Tempo track because everything is different now. You used to be able to draw it and now this is done with envelopes.
  6. Export of a 3 minute song takes less than a minute. If it takes any longer than that stop the process. The most common cause of this would be the song is way longer than the 3 minutes. There was another thread about this the other day and I can't remember the solution. You could try opening the Audio file info box found under "project" and see if any audio tracks are way to big. This is a 4 minute song. You can try this- in preferences change the split point to select "right" as in my screen shot. Go to the end of the project and use Ctrl A to select all, then use S to split at the point you want the song to end. The right portion should remain highlighted. Now use delete.
  7. Yes its actually bad advise to use input echo for recording audio. Its good for midi but with audio you will defiantly hear your round trip latency which in your case 24 ms. Always use your audio interface direct monitoring system to balance the DAW playback with your input signal. If you watch the tutorials found on the Focusrite site they give lots of information about setting this up. Sorry I'm not familiar with their new control panel. Most interfaces have a mix control on the front panel but this is done in the control software for your unit. Here's the support page that will explain how to set things up. https://focusrite.com/en/get-started https://customer.focusrite.com/en/getstarted/begin/P9
  8. Are you using the digital output? Probably not. Because that is the only box checked in audio device outputs it will be the default in your master buss and you won't hear anything from your speakers. Cakewalk goes to the top of the list and will select that as the master buss output. I show you all of this in this video if you haven't watched it yet do so.
  9. It always says that so pay no attention. But your screen shot shows a medium activity which is fine. How long did it run before you took the picture? It looks like only 1 minute. Did it go into the red when you run it for about 10 minutes? There’s lots of info about optimization of W10 for audio. It’s mostly over my head too? The easy things are to go into the windows apps and disable stuff Check task manager to see what’s running
  10. This can be a DPC issue with background applications and interruptions. Down load Latency Monitor https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon Run it and see if there’s an issue. Sometimes you have to disable useless apps and tidy up a few things. It probably would be a good idea to think about getting an audio interface with better drivers. Some on board sound chips just don’t work that good
  11. All of this is covered in my tutorials which are found in my signature.
  12. I have used OBS for a few years now . I always have it on my second monitor and the pre view is always on. The audio part has been the only difficult aspect and I had to use WASAPI shared. But now with my Motu M4 and the loopback I can keep Cakewalk in ASIO mode and I have a volume slide for my mike and for Cakewalks playback. The above video is redundant if your interface has loopback which is for anyone doing screen capture of a DAW almost a must have feature. Sure it's a complicated program. It's actually, when you think of it, just like Cakewalk,, free and fully featured. But there's lots of videos on how to use it. But that's only half the battle. You will also want to purchase a movie editing software and for that most of us are using Vegas Movie Studio. There's lots of great tutorials on that as well. What I like is I can use my VST plug ins on the audio track.
  13. @Dave G Here's how you can play any midi file with Cakewalk driving the MS wavetable synth. For this to work you need to use on board audio and preferably WASAPI mode. Asio4all is no longer needed for on board audio and is actually inferior to WASAPI for performance. It is recommended you totally remove it from your computer including in the registry under ASIO devices. Always OPEN the midi file. There's 2 ways you can try and results will depend on what format the original files were saved as and other things like system exclusive data. 1- The easy way--- go to preferences/ MIDI/ Devices and only check the GS wavetable box. the file will open and create all the midi tracks and play the wavetable synth. But for some files I found there were no channels they were all on channel 1. I think that's Mid 0. This gives me the same sound as when I play a midi file in Media Player or Win Amp. 2- In preferences / midi / devices. uncheck GS Wavetable and all output boxes. Open the midi file and you will have the TTS-1 and the file should play as a GM file. By rights this should be what your after if the file was a true GM file. If you want to play this through the wavetable synth go back to preferences and re check the GS Wavetable box. Delete the TTS-1 so there's no doubt about the sound source. Now use CTRL A to select all go to TRACKS ( found at top of track inspector) in the bottom of the drop down you'll find "selected track outputs" open and under midi select GS wavetable. Now the song will play via that. The other part of your puzzle might be that I too used to have a Sound Blaster and I remember it could play midi files using it's own SFZ ( sound fonts) sounds. This was one of the selling features of the card for midi users. You might have used those and there's probably no way to duplicate it without using the original card.
  14. I can sympathize if your on a limited internet connection. I used to have Xplornet satellite with a 50 GB cap. Not only that it would bonk out all the time and downloads would be messed up. My solution was take my laptop to a location with proper internet and update everything. That’s were I learned how to copy the ccc download folder to my other computer and then run the up dates. I have multiple backups of that folder as what is in there is worth a lot of cash. I haven’t needed to download anything since Sonar got the boot from Gibson
  15. Ditto for me too. Been a long time. Seems the updates are solving weirdness issues little bit by little bit.
  16. Thank you Bill. I get lots of positive feedback about my videos being easy to follow. I know what they mean. I get lost when I watch certain tutorials either because the person is mumbling the narration, moving way to fast, not exactly explaining what is going on, Assuming a newbie knows what a " insert technical name here" is, making errors and getting too complicated for beginners to follow. I've got a bunch more started but it's real nice weather here right now so no time for fun in the studio.
  17. The create a separate user is what I did on one laptop as my goal was to build a daw from the ground up for free. I wanted to see how far I could go using Cakewalk and free or demo VST,s . I just logged on to Bandlab with another email address.
  18. The noise floor I admit is only on the one computer I do use the on board audio on. My main daw when I tested it was more like 10 db which you won't really hear. It could even be the fans emitting RF to all those unsheilded audio cables and circuit boards. But it is worth thinking about if you want to optimize your system. To test I open Gold Wave audio editor and record the "silence" . You can even see it sometimes on cakewalks meters
  19. If I'm correct I think the You lean is the only one with the drag and drop feature . But for sure the wonderful world of free effects is spectacular. I have my old laptop 100% loaded with free software. I have the free version of you lean on that which the only feature missing is the drag and drop instant analyzer
  20. This is a common issue with people who have just purchased an Audio Interface and have not yet purchased proper studio monitors. You have to use the outputs on the back of the interface and they only have consumer computer speakers. The workaround is use headphones all the time or plug your cheapo computer speakers into the headphone jack of the interface using an 1/8" to 1/4" adaptor. Yes that's right, recording software might be free now, but the hobby does require a few bucks for some basic gear to set up even the most simple studio.
  21. This topic has been beat to death and very, very few people seem to have reasons to not keep up to date. If any reason was valid, it would be a hardware issue, not a software one. For myself running an updated system is now 100% trouble free experience. I even invested in a new Interface for that reason alone. There's nothing wrong with my old ones, but the drivers will no longer be updated so eventually I expect trouble. The improvements to Cakewalk since SPlat are huge. I still have Splat installed and could never go back. It doesn't take up room so I just leave it sitting there abandoned like a car with flat tires.
  22. There is absolutely no limit to Cakewalk installs. There actually never was with Sonar as well. I have Sonar on a bunch of machines. Only certain VST plug ins have limits. I have Cakewalk on 6 computers right now. But I can only have 2 running some of my purchased VST's. That's why I love the 3rd part freebies. I have one laptop that only has Cakewalk and free VST's loaded. Pretty powerful fully featured system for free.
  23. As my video say's. You can " get by fine" with on board audio if it is set up properly as pre my instructions in the video. I made the video to try and help first time users get started with Cakewalk. It takes a while for first time users to get their feet under them. There's no point purchasing an audio interface if you are just starting out and only wanting to mess around with loops and midi. But I also say that if you plan on doing any serious audio recording then this is when a proper ASIO driver and interface is needed or you WILL have issues. I also show how to hook up a small mixer to record with a mike but I also warn of the substandard quality of the A/D convertors that computers use. Mine has a noise floor of around 30 db. And this is just in general as every computer uses different quality components. I use on board audio on my office computer just to mess around. It generally has no issues but it cannot handle complicated projects with a lot of VST instruments and effects as smoothly as my other machine that uses an ASIO interface. You can "feel" the difference in performance. It does not surprise me if it drops out or takes forever to start playback. This is expected. Do not attempt to use the Realtech ASIO driver Cakewalk staff have chimed in many times warning about it's instability.
  24. So do all the boxes in the Preferences dialogs now show as your Steinberg asio interface including the the Record Latency adjustment? Are you using ASIO driver mode. When you click on the Windows Speaker icon in the systems tray does it say Steinberg? The front of your interface as in the picture below you should have the MIX control in the center and plug some headphones in to check. Do not use input echo or you will hear a delayed signal. Always use your interfaces direct monitoring system via the MIX control to avoid hearing your systems Round trip latency when recording audio tracks. You will use input echo when recording VST instruments only. Make sure the Output of your Master bus is set to the Steinberg 1/2 output. Your monitors must be plugged into the 1/2 output jacks of your interface. You cannot use on board audio for playback in ASIO mode. If all you have is computer speakers you will have to plug them into the headphone jack of the interface with an adaptor. You almost there just a few more steps and you'll be up and running smoothly. The Steinberg is a very good interface with good ASIO drivers. You did download the latest didn't you? Make sure to get the Windows version. Their driver page is kind of weird to get at, took me through 4 pages first. https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/downloads_hardware/yamaha_steinberg_usb_driver.html Defiantly watch the tutorials. In my signature is a link to my collection.
  25. Could you post a screenshot of these 4 things. 1. Preferences /Audio/Devices 2. Preferences/Audio/ Driver settings 3. Preferences/Audio/ Playback and Recording 4. Preferences/Audio/ Sync and Caching If your not sure how to post screens shots. Use the Windows key and the PrtScn key and this will save the screenshot to your Pictures folderin a folder marked screenshots. Just drag and drop them to the Drag files here at the bottom, it will turn blue.
