For me this is a function I can set in my Roland keyboard controller. They make it built in for live performance reasons. You activate the function and pull the slider down until you get what you needed. Pulling it all the way down your “piano” feel becomes an “ organ” feel. The recording velocity will be 64 no matter how soft or hard you play

Importing 100 wave files on a timeline one after another
John Vere replied to Elena Kolpakova's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
If they show in the audio folder in an easily recognizable order then I would just drag and drop them from the browser. Dragging them from the track pane would be crazy if there is actually 100 tracks. -
File/ close should only close the project I just tried and it works for me on 175 To close a project try clicking the x in the upper right of the workspace 1- Closes Cakewalk 2- Closes project

Go to the tutorials sub forum I just posted a new video that shows you how to set up your midi tracks And you probably have a midi loop back so disable all midi device outputs in preferences

You had my curiosity. I first duplicated a few vocal tracks and played them side by side watching the peak meters and I found no difference. I also saved the track as a template, inserted it and copied the audio into it and it stayed the same as well. I only have a Compressor in the pro channel so possibly your issue is what @scook said. It's an effect your using on the track randomizing the playback levels. A solution might be to put your vocal effects in a Vocal Buss and keep the tracks simple. I generally work this way. I only use the PC compressor and EQ on tracks. That way as I re record new parts they are all going to get the same processing down the line. You can see there is nothing in my FX bin. You can see the 3 vocal tracks after playing about a minute all show -5.2. Track 12 is the original, 13 is a duplicate and 14 is a track template and copy.

How do I get classic General MIDI synth sounds?
John Vere replied to Dave G's topic in Instruments & Effects
Roland sort of always used the GM system from day 1. I started my sequencing days on a Roland 505 drum machine. Those patterns still work using the TTS-1 Both my MT 32 and My GR 50 drums were close to the same. I know this because I still have and use the MIDI files I made back then. Drums were CH 10 on both by default just like GM. I changed the GR 50 to use CH 11 for drums and CH 12 was piano. The GR 50 sounded way better but I had to be careful because the notes would cut out when I used the guitar synth. The MT 32 was marginally better than the 505 but that was only because of the reverb. And that was a big reason for using Jeff's MT 32 editor was to tweak the reverb I played in a Duo and my partner had a Yamaha FB01. It was totally different so we had to drag 2 Atari computers around. My midi files wouldn't play on his and visa /versa. Later I bought a Korg 05/RW ( still use it) and it had a GM mode but I didn't use it because the GM bank didn't sound as good as the other modes did.. It played my drum files just fine but I had to edit all the other patches. Those are still in all my midi files which are the ones I've posted for people to use on my web site . ( see my signature) -

My latest video explains exactly how to set up Cakewalk with your interface. Make sure your preference settings match those in the video and I also show you how to arm the track to record.
-
The problem with cakewalk is there is always 10 ways to do the same things. While making the tutorials I found 6 ways to insert a VST instrument and there are now 2 dialogue boxes that do “ almost “ the same things. I doubt any other DAW has more than one way.

I’m just finishing a video that shows this. What they’re saying is don’t use a Simple instrument track Use a split instrument track. Cakewalks terminology is confusing. A simple instrument track records midi in the track it’s the one with a keyboard ? An instrument track is the one with a keyboard and a midi jack icon. That will record the synth as audio. Drag and drop the synth from the browser , or use the synth rack, or use the insert synth and in the dialogue only choose single synth output.

No Audio With Steinberg UR22 MkII Audio Interface
John Vere replied to Jman Stan's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes I was referring to that setting. You basically want all settings to show as your audio interface and nothing else. -
Any ideas to reduce latency when using midi/soft synths?
John Vere replied to Kevin White's question in Q&A
As Scook said, latency with midi is due to certain effects, mostly seems the heavy hitters like the LP Multiband type that use "look ahead" buffers. This causes the playback to be delayed even more than the reported latency of your ASIO driver. There's actually no delay of the incoming midi data but it seems like there is. Always bypass all effects while tracking both midi and Audio to avoid this issue. Also lower your audio buffers to 256 or 128 ms. Higher than that you might still "feel" a lag. -
Not sure about why your password doesn't work, you need to get in touch with support. but it's pretty easy to just log in using a different name and email. You will see this as they just changed to the new system where you no longer need the Bandlab assistant. You log in directly in Cakewalk. But the first time you open Cakewalk after the update it will ask you to sign in. I just did this this morning.

All audio interfaces have support pages with videos and instructions on how to set them up and get started. Every interface is different. Start buy following the manufactures instructions and learning how your interfaces works. Example it might use a software mixer that you need to set up. There are lots of getting started Tutorial's you should watch as well. Good luck , it won't take you long to figure out the basics if you watch the videos and most certainly post here when you get stuck. https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/35-tutorials/

The settings in the track inspector will over rule the GUI patch settings. Set Bank and Patch to "none" in the track inspector when you use the GUI to make patch changes. Also check the event list if this is a downloaded midi file. I cover this in my tutorials found in my signature.

Woops, I was refering to Viocemeeter- There's been a few posts about it so I downloaded it and fired it up. It really didn't seem to do anything Windows already does if you know were to look. But that said I bet the solution would be an audio interface with loopback. Most new interfaces have this feature and it's big asset is either live streaming or using stand alone synths. Anything Windows can play becomes an input to your DAW. You can get an interface with Loopback for $100.

The trouble is that things like effects pedals are not proper audio interfaces. They give you the USB option and it is almost always poorly implemented. Obviously the headphone monitoring system is also feeding the USB output. Your incoming signal ( the DAW playback) is being mixed with the output via USB. This is not a Cakewalk issue but is a question for the manufacture of the effect pedal. Read the manual or go to the user forum.

How's it going, good to see your still around. Cakewalk by Bandlab is Sonar Platinum with 1,000 bug fixes. They just changed the name. Most of us will run Command center to grab the goodies. I haven't opened SPlat for a few years now.

Static spikes in my playback and exports [Solved]
John Vere replied to RexRed's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
You shouldn't need a buffer that high. It actually might cause an issue, not sure. Mine has always been at 256 day in day out. Did you try bypassing izotope? -
Glad you got it sorted. As for information, the more details the faster the solution. Otherwise you see what happens is like user 905133 more questions.

This is most likely due to you have a midi loopback happening. The VST instrument is set to output midi data. You can disable that in the VST setting, but the best way is to go into Preferences/ Midi/ Devices and uncheck all outputs. It's a good idea to give us more information about your set up for trouble shooting so I'm having to assume your using a USB keyboard controller.

The best solution in this case would be a proper audio interface. On board audio is very limiting with DAW's. Not only that but if you are recording audio then an proper interface is essential. You need the better quality A/D convertors etc. My computer is very similar to yours. It's an off the shelf HP Pavilion I inherited from my in laws and might just be 2011 too. i7 , 12 GB RAM. My projects never get crazy big as I use it more like a 16 track tape deck. I made a video about interfaces. If your needs are simple it might only cost you under $200.
-
If your going to do a lot of this I highly recommend getting a simple interface with Loopback. I found this one around $100. https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/audio_interfaces/ur_series/models/ur12.html
