Pretty much all drum VST's have a mixer for adjusting levels of kit pieces. Some also have Compressors and EQ and other processing. With Addictive Drums I've heavily modified most of the settings and saved them with my song titles. Level and Velocity are two different things Velocity for most instruments changes the timber or harshness of the sound as it is increased to emulate what happens when you hit things harder. Most snares become more aggressive as you increase the velocity. I find around 100 is normal but by 115 it starts to have more bite. EQ and compression is also a good way to bring a snare out front without it becoming too loud.

Or by settings do you mean your workspace changed? When you select any given workspace it remains until you change to a different workspace. It has nothing to do with saving projects. Project don’t save workspaces. If you make a bunch of changes to your set up then you need to save it as a new workspace or overwrite the one you made changes too. If not next time you start cakewalk it will load the last workspace chosen. Auto save won’t overwrite your original project. It only creates a bunch of files marked as auto save copy in your project folder. I doubt you had it turned on as it’s not a default setting.

Every time I rebuild a new system all goes well except installing any Air products. The installation is buggy as all get out. Right now I totally can't use Strike drums working because it says it's already installed? it isn't. Run the installer and it askes if I want the uninstall only. It is no where on my system. If I ask it to uninstall I get an error. I don't really use it so I don't care to bother to sort it out. Glad I only paid $5. But they do have great sounds in Xpand and I use the DB33 organ a lot. I would be nice if they paid attention to their installers, kind of reminds me of installing Cakewalk

@Simon Wilkinson Did you know you can batch process as many files as you want using most Wave Editors. I often finish albums of up to 20 songs, export as Wave then batch convert to MP3 using Gold Wave. All audio formats are supported as well as every MP3 option. no http://www.goldwave.ca/

The other thing that can happen is if say you change your snap settings to something small and you touch a clip that over lapped that grid. The clip might jump to the new grid.

Only thing comes to mind is weird things happen when you have Ripple Edit on.

Yes a screen shot showing the tracks and their input and outputs would speed this up.

CTRL W toggles the playback ( spacebar) between stop in place and return to the place you started.

lots of ways You could record the midi data to your computer and save it as a midi file. Then transfer the files to his computer. Easy. Or To record to his computer if their interface has midi then yes you would connect both your audio and midi outputs to their interfaces midi and audio inputs. You would need to make sure that the VST you are using has its midi outputs selected. That way your midi input will be sent to your midi output of the interface. Easy way would be if they have the same VST instrument you use installed on their DAW.

The focus has been on improvements to the Piano Roll View and not much has advanced in the staff view. So most user work in the PRV. I’ve never used the Staff view but there sure is a lot of grumbling about it.

With the Motu M4 it’s one of the choices for an input. Also that in other apps that use Audio.

Excellent investigation you really got to the root of it. I wonder how Izotope fairs on a Mac? Or with Pro Tools? Im going to bookmark this thread for future references when others have this issue.

Sorry li totally missed the fact the Recording you mentioned is to OBS and not Cakewalk. What have you selected as the audio input for OBS? Are you using WASAPI shared mode? Getting sound from Cakewalk to an app like OBS is tricky. Once again the solution for me was the loop back channel. Generally OBS records the output of your interface so what’s happening there will happen in the video audio track. You could try turning the tracks fader down.

You should get an A+ for trouble shooting. Sorry I don’t have a solution other than I have seen a few threads like this where Izotope plug ins were doing the same. I ran into the same issue when trying the demos. In the end I didn’t see the benefits of using them as I’m not a fan of magic tricks to make stuff sound better. I think they might be good tools for people who don’t have a grasp on mastering yet. I found there’s nothing they do that standard tools can’t do. It’s just a package. But that said they should work and I’m sure a lot of people never have issues. It must be a combination of Cakewalk and certain systems or Drivers. This is a Cakewalk issue if other DAW’s don’t have issues. Cakewalk has old code upon old code. Reaper is probably more streamlined. Be interesting to try on a few other DAW’s like Cubase and Studio one.

FYI. It takes 3 seconds to top and tail an audio file in a wave editor. That’s my solution to the unwanted space at the beginning and end of song for going on 20 years now.

The audio is stored as a wave file in the audio folder. You can open the folder and drag and drop it to a new track. It will be identical. But in my many years of using Sonar and Cakewalk I’ve never had any difference between an original or a copy of any audio or midi tracks. And I think I’ve used every method of duplication available. Bounce to track with the boxes checked is the only one I can think of that prints effects to the new track. Most other methods just make a new copy of the tracks original data. The effects and the level settings are not part of the audio data stored in the audio folder. So there should be no difference unless you’re rendering your tracks first. Or bouncing.

You don’t say or show what the instrument is. Can’t see the dialogue boxes in your screen shot. The setting you want might be in the VST itself.

By the way. Next time include the dialogue boxes that shows the input, output, channel, bank and patch. What you showed was of no help.

You might want to study the signal flow diagram. Audio is 100% controlled by your interface. That audio goes directly to the track exactly as it was input. Nothing in the DAW is printed to “tape”. Using input echo will give you a way to monitor what you will hear on playback of the new track. It sends the input through the tracks effects and then to any busses and back out to be combined with the other tracks. But this is a delayed signal compared to the all ready recorded material. This is not what was recorded. We use the direct monitoring feature of the interface so you can play in sync with the other tracks. Otherwise your hearing your systems latency as a variable amount of delay. This might cause timing issues. Audio interfaces with Loopback channels allow you to use Stand alone Apps like sims and record the Wet single directly. If you’re a amp sims user you would benefit from using an interface with loop back as this is what you’re trying to do. Print effect to tape. You can’t do this with a basic interface like a solo. Well you could, but you would need a small mixer etc.

For me this issue was resolved with my new interface which has the loop back feature. I think the reason is they designed the ASIO driver to specifically allow windows apps to share. They advertise this as such so you can record a YouTube audio output directly to your Daw. But the sample rate has to match.

It’s actually not clear what the op wanted. But yes Cakewalk does save user preferences and settings locally so if you re install on that computer it detects the old install and asks if you want to use those settings. there’s most likely a way to copy this between machines, sorry I don’t know the location but I’m sure @scook will.

Ya I noticed that too. But is not VST a Steinberg invention ?! and Steinberg is more Mac than it is PC. I assumed they must be running Cakewalk under Bootcamp or one of the unfortunate people who tried the famous Mac version of Sonar
