It actually seems like a very small group that are complaining still. I think the majority are following along with Choices 1&2 from my list above. I really like Sonar and totally got used to the new GUI. I uninstalled CbB. I have no nag screens. It’s not very expensive for now, but still will only purchase, not continue to rent. The bonus has been getting Cakewalk Next as well. It a great little DAW for quick song ideas. Super fast to load and get going.

It's not clear but are you saying that it is only Audacity? There's lots of things involved in sharing the audio system on a PC. First go to windows sound settings, this is W10. Set your sample rate here. And uncheck the exclusive control box. This is important. This is W11 - It's a terribly configured system I do not like. -Focusrite Control panel set your rate here as well. Open a Cakewalk project. What shows in the transport? Open Preferences and make sure this is unchecked Export the project as a Wave file at your default sample rate. and play in Media Player. In the lower right is 3 dots and you'll find "properties" This will confirm that your file is indeed the correct sample rate, 2304 = 48/24 wave file. ( my default) - open the file in Audacity . Check does it show that the file you are playing is the correct sample rate? Take note Audacity doesn’t use ASIO drivers. This is why I don't use it. I use Wave Lab or Gold Wave.

Look at my above post. It’s simple. You have choices so no point complaining about stuff nobody here can fix. Note- Reaper is not actually free unless you choose to not participate in the concept .

Next does not have ARA you cannot convert Audio to Midi. It is a very basic DAW. But it is well executed and very good DAW for beginners looking to start out with something that is not overwhelming to learn. Compare 270 page users guide to Cakewalks 1942 pages. All clips dragged to project will attempt top match the projects tempo. But they need to be groove clips or what ever loops are. And best to see what the original tempo was as listed below each loop in the loop browser. You want to stay close as you can to avoid artifacts.

Doubt if they have a budget for that. It’s been a long time wait for Midi 2.0 to become the standard. It mostly only benefits Hardware users which is important to at least one style of modern music. It seems it will almost eliminate midi latency of gear but the rest was over my head.

This is what console view is for. The D shortcut toggles it. But your suggestion is viable. It would be a matter of changing the FX bin to a horizontal stacking instead of vertical.

It’s a huge waste of time. I posted a few bugs in November that never were acknowledged. Re posted a few times. Last answer to questions were months old. All there was is hundreds of posts people asking how to do stuff and nobody really answered. My bug was still not fixed in April So just a few weeks ago I used the same report a problem form we use for Cakewalk and Sonar. It has a Next option as well. They got right back to me and by now they have probably fixed the bug. A few people have made beginners tutorials if you’re looking for help. But good luck using Discord. There might be a Facebook page for it but that’s almost as terrible as Discord for asking questions and getting the correct answers.

This is why I switched to setting everything at 48 a few years ago. No issues since.

As I say I’ve actually never seen a saved untitled project? While testing things I have opened hundreds of blank or Basic templates, messed around for even an hour and then I just close off and when it asks me to save I just say no and it’s gone forever. I’ve had a few of these crash on me as well when testing funky free plug ins. So it seems to me you would have to actually save it with out naming it to create a project that has that title?

The Magician tells you which Slot is assigned to each drive. My C drive shows as 3. There’s other apps like aspect that also list off everything about your computer.

I’ve never cloned an NVM drive as I just got my start with them last November with my new machine I built. I’m not sure if there’s adapters for USB to NVM? Never thought of that but ! I have 2 slots so I would think I would temporarily pull the Data drive from its slot, install the new drive and the the Magician would choose that as the target drive. The C drive would be cloned to the new drive. I would shut down , pull the old C drive and swap the new drive over to that slot, put the data drive back in its slot and boot up. I think windows will look for C drive in the same dive slot and it should be just fine. By right’s Windows will sort of be unaware anything happened. Just a few registry changes to acknowledge the new serial numbers and capacity.

Another thing I use the Magician for is you run the disk analyzer and save ( Export) the performance benchmark and then in 6 months or so you can review this and compare to see if your drive is slowing down.

It will only exists if you saved it with that name. Otherwise if you close with out saving it’s gone. I have never seen a project with that title. All new projects will be saved to your default location set in preferences. The only other thing I can think of is if you have Auto save turned on I’m not sure where and if that would get saved under that name?

Lots of software can do this but not Sonar. I noticed that if I create a midi sequence in Band in a Box ( or Jjazz or Chord Pulse) and open it in Sonar and the chords show as markers. Therefore as a pretty efficient work flow I can map out my song in one of those programs , try different styles , arrangements and drum grooves and then transfer the midi file to Sonar. I then rebuild the song playing my own parts the way I want it. If it’s just a cover song I don’t need to do too much. So basically I’m using AI generated midi which also gives me the chord symbol as a bonus. You can use BiaB as aVST plug in in Sonar but I haven’t messed around with that option yet. I don’t think it would create the markers. Chord track has been a much requested feature for a long time and I would guess it’s high on the teams list of future upgrades. First the bugs then the goodies.

I don’t think it’s done on purpose. I think all hands are on deck and working on Sonar and some on Next. Cakewalk has been sort of left to it’s own demise.

Did you not read what a few people were talking about? If you are using a Behringer UMC 2 or UMC22 it won't work with Cakewalk. Starting with the UMC 202HD they do come with proper ASIO drivers. Plug ins have nothing to do with your DAW unless they are used in a project. The Sonitus Effects are DX and still work fine for most of us. They are no longer supported but I still use them without issues if they are on older projects. All of these 2x2 interfaces use proper ASIO drivers.

As reported by many and the dozens of threads with this topic. It is the state that CbB is now in prior to it's final closing. Your choices are: Move to using Sonar via by paying a monthly Bandlab Membership fee of around $15 USD. Move to using another DAW = $$$?? or free if you don't mind basic. Move to using a version of Sonar pre Bandlab = Sucks for many because of the old bugs and missing features. Put up with the inconvenience of using CbB for the short term until Sonar is released and can be purchased. CbB is still free.

Yes I did this a year ago. My data drive was getting real slow and as a result Cakewalk was taking forever to open or save. I discovered the issue after looking into possibilities and I found out about the Magician. It quickly showed the issue was with my Data G drive. I bought two 500 GB SSD Evo 860’s and used the Samsung Magician to clone the C and G drives. Took all of 30 minutes. the computer was obviously way faster afterwards. I put the 2 old drives on the shelf for a few weeks just to be sure all was good. Then I did a slow re format of the old drives to use them elsewhere and they both perked back up. They are only 2 years old. I now run the Magician ever once in a while to check on my drives. You can even save the test results to compare. What I learned was SSD drives even if only 1/2 full can slow down due to read and write cycles. Apparently Video editing is a heavy cycle user. I’m sure audio editing is too.

My understanding is as Windows moved forward as well as the fact Cakewalk is specifically a Windows only DAW and so heavily tied to your OS. Example CbB still works on W7 but with a warning when you install. I don’t think Sonar will even install. Then every audio interface has updated ASIO drivers and with those devices you might find WDM mode is no longer supported. So ASIO 4all is just not compatible with modern versions of Cakewalk. It used to work back in the Splat days. WASAPI is all you need for using on board Computer audio but then older interfaces as well as cheap designs might not support WASAPI modes. So yes it’s a Cakewalk / Windows thing because Cakewalk / Sonar is designed and tested on only W10?/ W11 now. Behringer is more a Max OS oriented company and really only those 2 cheaper interfaces are useless for PC users. They work fine on Core Audio. There’s a few similar priced interfaces that have proper ASIO drivers. There’s no point even wasting time trying to get one working. dozens of threads on this topic.

Roland A49 if you are not a real keyboard player. More than enough keys for hackers like me and it is small enough to stay on my desk. It only has a couple of assignable knobs so a lot definitely depends on if you want a controller or just a musical instrument.

Thanks Noel. I am out of town for a while and will check this out when home. I just did a fresh install as requested by staff due to Crash dump submission. I totally removed both Sonar and Cakewalk. Note the instructions they sent to me for a clean install seemed outdated and they were for Cakewalk not Sonar.But I think I managed to accomplish this . I did not reinstall CbB and not planning on it. So just Sonar going forward. I do have Splat and 8.5 as well. But hopefully they weren’t causing the conflict. I was also having crash issues with Vegas pro so I need to see what’s going on. I just built the computer last November. Could be something I never set up to optimize like in the bios. And I was definitely logged in as it was a case were I had just downloaded from web site and installed. I got multiple messages about logging in, a new update? , additional updates etc. So I logged in and on restart I still had the new version available message which seems odd due to just downloading it. So I re installed and one done I got that membership and the log in messages again. A similar sequence of events happened on my laptop as well. Others have commented on all the seemingly weird toast messages like updating help and studio instruments which are all ready installed after you install the update. I think this is also happening with CbB. Update: When I got home I opened Sonar and got the spinning wheel. I opened the Task Manager and Saw that XLN Cloud service was running. I think I must have forgotten about it as I always disable all phone home settings in all my Apps. Anyhow, it got rid of the spinning wheel completely now. I also went through all the Windows apps and found a bunch that I needed to set to Never ( run in background) I also ran the Samsung Magician ran the performance tests and the disk optimizer. I ran Resplendence Latency Monitor and Why So SLow and got a glowing report from both. Why So SLow is found on the Resplendence web page and it's free. I goes over all aspects of your system and reports back to you. I also got a notice to update Sonar again and this time it kept me logged in after it updated. And my Start screen defaults to the Local Projects now, so everything is 100%. Thank you @Noel Borthwick for the always welcome assistance. You are not allowed to retire until I'm too old to do this stuff!
