Yes and no for me Zo.. If you do a 12dB boost on the high shelf on one EQ and a 1dB boost on the high shelf on another, but matching phase, it will sound dramatically different to both having a 12dB boost with different phase. I do think checking for the phase is good though. I have had some EQs where the curves match and they should sound the same by curve alone, but they don't. Both good checks, but I'd say curves most important, phase lesser but still good to check.

I found that too and Ruletec has always been up there in my favourites for Pultecs.

Definitely agreed. If I was just starting to buy plugins now, I'd be all over it. But I have a stack of tape emulations, some I really love so there's no real need, or nothing that can't be achieved without it. I'm more looking opportunistically because I just think it might be OK to grab. So waiting is really no issue. I'm still not sure if be totally happy with UA if I paid $10K or more before their new pricing and now everyone else only paid under $200. I wouldn't have paid their excessive prices though and wouldn't have bought one of their interfaces, or done subscription, but once they went native and put some of their bundles on sale, they were a bit of a no-brainer.
-
The thing I've learnt with UA, is it pretty much never pays to buy early.. I have been toying with the idea of Luna Pro, but then I own most of the plugins in there apart from the API pres and a couple of others. A little on the fence as to what would work out cheaper, buying individually with a $25 thank you each time shaving off the price of successive purchases, or grab the bundle. But knowing UA, there will be a Luna Signature Platinum bundle or something they will release that will include even more and be cheaper again ? I am intrigued about giving the ATR-102 a demo, but I think I'll sit back and wait to see how Black Friday pans out for either Luna, or the tape.

Me neither, I'm very much the rookie when it comes to Plugin Doctor.. ? But I love using it to see what sort of curves etc some of my favourite, or raved about EQs use. It's quite an eye opener and not a bad learning tool. Sometimes I'm hearing something I think is happening and then it's useful to check if the plugin does work that way too. Thanks for you post too, lots of great comparisons and opening up Pulse-Tec V2 let me know there was an update, so that I just installed that as well
-
I always like seeing stuff like this and find Plugin Doctor quite an interesting tool. Pulse-Tec Nomad Factory V2 gets very close to the curves. It seems they use a HP filter on their V2 plug regardless of it not being enabled on the plugin for the HLF-3 section. Both UA and Pulse-Tec V1 use a sharp LP filter at around 20KHz which I imagine might be for aliasing, whereas V2 of Pulse-Tec doesn't. There is quite a bit of difference between all three when it comes to Harmonic Analysis though.

It's free anyway though isn't it? Can just get it from the Stagecraft website.

Orchestral Tools 75% Off on Berlin Orchestra Inspire 1
MusicMan replied to PavlovsCat's topic in Deals
This was my assumption too. Could either just use a new email / account, or see if there's something cheap to add. I didn't spend time looking as I'm not sure I really intend on grabbing it. -
Not saying that the Steinberg apps are perfect and I do think they should consolidate and improve, but they actually do most of that. I open up the Steimberg Download Assistant, I click on My Product Downloads and it shows me exactly what I own. If there are any products that need updating, there's an updates section at the top of the Download Assistant. It won't show that for me at the moment, as I'm completely updated. If I click Cubase Pro 12 in the "My Product Downloads" section, it shows all the items that are available and what I've installed and lists them as "Install" or "Install again" if they've already been installed and a big green bar with a tick in it to show it's installed. I do think part of this is really still just migrating from their old eLicenser system and they're probably working towards a more consolidated experience.

APD Deal: TONEX Metal Gems Collection by IK Multimedia - FREE DOWNLOAD
MusicMan replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
Agreed, a backup solution should be a total backup. Actually shouldn't be too hard, given that for them to work in Tonex, it has to be able to see them, so if it can see them, it should have all the paths to be able to copy everything into a backup file. -
APD Deal: TONEX Metal Gems Collection by IK Multimedia - FREE DOWNLOAD

I think it was just because there servers might have been getting hammered.. I did restore purchases in Tonex which is normally really quick in Amplitube and it wasn't hours, but it wasn't seconds either. I left it doing it, but I think it might have been around 15 minutes and Tonex for me was completely stock CS and the only thing added was this metal pack. Normally I like to leave things a few days and seem to dodge most server load issues, so maybe I just hit the peak time or something. The whole copy DB thing is good to know though. -
I think a bunch of us have an absurd numbers of tuners and meters from them for that very reason, especially when you could voucher stack.. I miss those days with PA ?
-
If you use Kontakt which is the closest equivalent, it's really not that much different. You install Native Access, then install Kontakt, then install the library (that could involve another installer if it's a third party Kontakt library). Native Instruments leaves their daemon running in the background which for some weird reason can consume quite a lot of CPU at times when you're not even running their applications. The Steinberg ones could still be consolidated, but honestly they're simple, use no resources and run on demand. You don't generally often even need to use the library manager anyway. Steinberg never even enters my head for installer hassles. Native Access has definitely given me trouble more recently.

Thanks, I never knew this! You can use the same concept for Amplitube and see your collections directly in the product manager too. -
This one has one really good algo. I downloaded it ages ago and forgot to post it on here.

LouderThanLiftOff Silver Bullet mk2 Plugin sale for $30
MusicMan replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
I don't mind this deal. It's $29.99 on the PA site, but I'd expect buying direct from LTL they get a bigger cut instead. -
LouderThanLiftOff Silver Bullet mk2 Plugin sale for $30

If it's like last time, you get a redemption code for PA so it's all still the same, you're just not buying it off the PA site Zo. -

Pretty good freebie really and nice to see something that hasn't repeatedly done the free circuit multiple times already! I'll want to spend more time checking it out to know for sure, but some of them don't sound too bad after a quick play. I only have the free Tonex CS and haven't downloaded the free 20 user presets yet, so it's a nice addition. Thanks Lars ? -
Yes, spot on. It's explicitly for V2 so they're doing a pre check first and requires it to be logged in. For paid presets it makes sense as it stops people buying the incorrect packs, but for free it would be nice if they skip that step. There are some presets I've gotten for free because I knew I was likely to end up buying a particular synth down the track.

I don't believe you can with Intros: Exception: UnitedPlugins credits cannot be used to purchase plugins sold at introductory prices.

Xils Lab Summer Sale, up to 80% off synths and effects, Stix at $59
MusicMan replied to D-Fused Sounds's topic in Deals
I've got PolyKB III and that doesn't seem to have any major bugs that I've come across. It can sound quite nice and almost analog like and warm. I just bought it as it was so enjoyable to play rather than to even use in tracks. I have heard some of their others do have quite a few bugs though. -
Sonnox Oxford Inflator Flash Sale (Exclusive) for $26
MusicMan replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
That MFlator interface might get closer, but all the other ones I've seen and tried, only null at certain static points (although most don't include multiband so they miss functionality and won't null with that), so they just don't respond in the same way when you start adjusting them. From my experience, it's always so much faster to get the sound dialed in with Inflator than any of the clones I tried. MFlator looks promising though and it might address some of those downsides. -
Approximately $15 seems to be the max you would need to pay for most of these individually on sale. There's no way I'd pay this price for 2. Sometimes you can pick them up for $10 each.
