  9. A couple of years ago I picked up a DJ Swivel plugin as part of a Stay Creative Bundle from Plug-in Boutique. (You know, the kind of thing where they put together an assortment of low-cost odds 'n' ends.) So today I received an e-mail related to the D J Swivel / PA thing. Not endorsing nor poo-pooing either of them. Just wanted to pass this on in case others also have DJ Swivel stuff. So check your e-mail as sometimes stuff like this goes into a Spam, Trash, or other such bin. UPDATE: The e-mail has some steps to follow (basically logging into your DJ Swivel Account to get some information), but those steps didn't work for me--perhaps their server is overwhelmed ATM or being changed. Who knows? But, since I have my serial number, all I needed to do is (1) copy that and (2) put it into the PA site where it says to use the serial number as a Voucher. From there it was a $0.00 purchase following the usual steps, Hope this helps if you can't get into the DJ Swivel server.

  10. Several weeks ago my C Drive had to be emptied and re-formatted as a boot drive, and while I had no intention of reinstalling gazillions of IK Software and Sounds, last night I started to install a number of my prior IK purchases. So, because I previously purchased licenses (and with great thanks to IK for removing the 180 day download restriction!!!!!), I can verify that I was able to re-install SampleTron 2 (software and sounds). And, yes, I just had to play the opening notes to Strawberry Fields. 🙂 Syntronik 2 also works--though I still need to make room for all the Sound Content as well as make time. MixBox (which I installed a couple of weeks ago) reinstalled and also works as far as I tested (just some basic operations). As expected, all the non-discontinued IK products that I have re-installed so far also work.

  14. I've always been a huge fan of Alice and those records with the band under Ezrin were truly special. My expectations aren't exactly sky high for this new one but it will be nice to hear them playing together again. Sad that Buxton isn't there to be a part of it. I did check out the first excerpt when it came out and I thought it wasn't bad. I love solo Alice too, although I've not really listened to much after The Last Temptation in 1994. I think the only album I never really got was Special Forces. But the rest, even the weird ones like DaDa, I can dig. In early December 1989, there was a giveaway on tv to promote Alice's Trash tour. I called, hoping I could win the cassette. Well, I did win the cassette alright - along with a t-shirt and a pair of tickets for the show in Montreal in January - almost 300 miles away. For a small-town kid like myself, without a license, and who'd never been anywhere, that was kind of problematic. The show might as well have been on Mars. But a friend who was a bit older, worked a blue collar job and had a little money thought this was an opportunity we could not missed so he offered to pay for the bus tickets and a hotel room for the day. That's me under the massive hairdo at 6 am the day of the show, shortly after we arrived. First time in the big city. We'd spent the night drinking Jack Daniel's in the back of the bus... Second photo is a bad shot of the show, obviously.

  25. Easy pass for me on this one. It doesn't really add enough to make it worthwhile from a cost perspective, but even more so, there's no backwards compatibility maintained so you need to keep every version installed on your computer to open old projects. It's easy just sticking with what you have and skipping multiple years, or forever! No additional redundancy and clutter in the plugins list and plugin scans. Unless there's a pricing glitch somewhere, my money is safe on this one.

  28. If you received the Cube MINI freebie, or if you bought Cube MINI, then you can upgrade to Pro for $39 in your account. I put it in my cart and left it there, as I was still debating on whether or not to upgrade. Today I got another coupon for 10% off. When I added it to the cart it took the full $8.90 off (10% of the $89 full upgrade price) and that made the price $30.10. I had to upgrade....why I don't know...but I did LOL Make sure you are logged in and I don't know how much longer the sale is... https://lunacy.audio/products/cube

  30. Trio Mandili - Psalm 50 These girls are known for singing cute, happy Eastern European folk songs while walking in and around their little village in Georgia (the country). Here they take a more somber turn chanting David's most famous penitential Psalm. You're likely more familiar with it as #51 because there is different divisions and numbering between the Greek Septuagint and the Hebrew Masoreric texts.

  35. What's worse is they were some of the better ones. SampleTron in particular I really like. While there is a lot of filler in Syntronik, it actually has some great sounds too. This would weaken the value proposition of future Total Studio bundles for me personally. It often makes me more cautious of buying from companies when they discontinue products like this as well, as I get less faith in their products being viable for long term. With pulling MixBox too it seems there is a lot of instability in future direction when buying IK at the moment. It probably makes sense to them, their roadmap and future direction, but as a customer I'm not inclined to jump onto products that might become sinking ships when there are alternatives that have a lower risk in that regard.

  43. I don't think I have posted this song yet, if I have, I blame it on old age. Brief background, about 2 years ago my left hand became intimately familiar with my tablesaw. I broke all 5 fingers, two pretty severely. The doctor was able to save them, but my middle finger and thumb can only move at the joint nearest the palm. Otherwise, they are stiff. My other fingers have sections that are numb. I have played guitar, not great but got by, for most of my life and now I am unable to play most rock bar chords and have to compromise on some open string chords. Part of my rehabilitation has been trying to learn to play bass guitar. This song is a result of my early efforts. I will warn you, it is a Dirge. I try to create fast rock songs, but always end up trying to be slow and atmospheric. I appreciate the listen and any feedback. I used a soft synth for the drone notes and the sound effx, the bass is a Glarry Short Scale bass with a modified pickup. (there are two bass lines, the lead intro and a drone background). The guitar is a kit guitar I purchased from Guitar Fetish and built and is the one in the thumbnail. If you read this far, I thank you for your interest. Dave T This is a simple video.

  44. I also bought the SYSTEM-8 last week from Plugin Boutique, but I have contacted Roland Cloud support and asked them if there is any possibility to swap/replace the currently owned SYSTEM-8 license with a license for XV-5080, which I don't own and has the same price as SYSTEM-8. Something conceptually similar to what I understand it is possible to do for the Keys obtained via Play 4 Life promotion, while the subscription is active. At first they misunderstood my request and thought I wanted a refund so they told me to take it with Plugin Boutique instead, but after clarification they were really kind and removed the current SYSTEM-8 license from my account and added the XV-5080 instead. This way at least I avoid duplication.

  45. The BandLab Membership itself doesn’t seem to cater for professional users. It’s clearly aimed at up-and-coming artists who need promo tools, distribution, mastering, etc. That’s a completely different crowd from the hobbyists we see on these forums. Right now you’ve got three very distinct groups: Hobbyists (mostly older) – just want a solid DAW to make music for themselves. They’ll happily buy once, maybe pay for an update every few years, but they aren’t spending monthly. Aspiring/“wannabe” artists (younger) – they’re chasing exposure, playlists, distribution, branding tools. BandLab Membership is built for them, but they don’t care about a heavyweight DAW like Sonar. Most of them are in FL Studio, Ableton, Logic, or just on the BandLab app itself. Professionals – We don’t need distribution bundles, mastering gimmicks or social features. We just need a rock-solid DAW that lets us work quickly and reliably, with clear licensing so we know our projects will always be accessible. That’s it. The problem is BandLab’s marketing is all over the place. They’re trying to pitch Sonar to three very different audiences at once — but the product and business model don’t properly serve any of them. Hobbyists resent subscriptions, pros need ownership and stability, and the younger artist crowd doesn’t see Sonar as relevant or modern enough compared to the competition. It just feels scattershot — like they’re tone-deaf to the core user base and missing the expectations of the next generation at the same time. So instead of capturing new users, they’re bleeding their legacy base while failing to onboard the younger crowd.
