Opened my default template and set the time sig to 6/8 beginning at measure 1 and all the bar lines shifted accordingly. BUT the 6/8 only persists for 10 measures and then reverts back to 4/4. It's possible that there was a time signature baked into your default template that has 4/4 already in there (worth checking that in a new project made from that template).
