Cakewalk won't play audio

Iverson64

Question

I've been using Cakewalk for about a month now. It was working fine until yesterday when I imported a midi file. I attempted to play the midi, but Cakewalk refused to play the audio. I tried looking online for answers. and after finding nothing, I tried to fix it myself, which resulted in nothing changing.  The track is routed to an USB audio device, the audio on my PC works on everything else, and (of course) the audio engine in Cakewalk is enabled. So the fact that it doesn't play any sound is perplexing. So what is going on?

Try increasing the Playback using nnn Millisecond Buffers setting in preferences from 250 to 500 or 750. Some use much larger values.

If that does not fix the problem consider supplying more information such as

  • Hardware details - PC and Audio interface
  • Software details - OS and DAW version info
  • MIDI - whether using a third party MIDI file or entered manually.
  • Project sample rate
  • Thanks 1

MIDI tracks by themselves do not produce audio - they need a synth (either a soft synth, or hardware synth connected to a MIDI port) for the MIDI to "play".

Depending on how you've imported your midi file, TTS-1 is normally loaded - but as I said, it depends on how you imported your midi file.

Do you have any synths in your synth rack?
