About Me

  1. Hi folks, Most have probably seen that we have a new release out - see above link. It wasn't planned but it has ended up being one of the strongest releases since we started CbB - a fitting tribute to our one year anniversary! Not only did we finally do ARA2 which has been in planning for some time, but we tackled some tricky and long overdue improvements to editing in general. The bullets in the product announcement cover a lot of ground but I'll highlight a few notable improvements: Slip editing (cropping) and stretching clips is now far more robust for all data types (MIDI, audio and ARA clips). Edits are now managed accurately even when doing combinations of operations such as cropping followed by stretching or vice versa. Edits should also be preserved across undo and redo. Multi clip time stretching, an often requested feature, allows you to easily time stretch clips on multiple tracks by the same amount. Elastique time stretching is improved and sounds better. When using ARA clips there is a lot of new goodness especially with ARA 2 plugins. This is our biggest ARA refresh since 2013 when it was first implemented and there are numerous optimizations and improvements behind the scenes. If you have Melodyne you will notice that all edits like dragging or cropping and stretching clips now have real-time preview in Melodyne. This makes it easier to align with other tracks when editing. Track and clip selection are now fully mirrored via ARA 2 allowing Melodyne to follow your clips and track selection. You can set Melodyne to automatically hide and show blobs automatically based on your selection. It will also respond to renaming tracks and clips. There aren't any ARA plugins that respond to color yet but when available they will also respond to the track and clip colors in CbB. All ARA 2 clips now share a common view. So navigating across multiple clips is as simple as clicking on a clip. The view data in Melodyne will automatically change to track the selected clip. Is is a lot faster than double clicking clips to close and reopen a new view. Creating ARA regions as well as MIDI analysis is now more efficient and should be a bit quicker. The Gain knob in the Inspector controls either audio Input Gain or MIDI Velocity Offset for Instrument tracks. This allows you to independently control MIDI velocity for instrument tracks based on whether the Audio tab or MIDI tab is selected in the track inspector. Thanks to several forumites who suggested this useful feature. Playlist view has been widened to accommodate showing more text. Bug fixes: We fixed over 45 bugs this release alone! Not all are listed since some of them were related to the new features. We continue to prioritize making CbB as stable as possible. A small request. For each release we'd like to gather some feedback on how useful or stable it is for you. If you are so inclined please take a moment to rate the product release topic in the forum. (there is now a star rating at the top of the post) Thanks to you all for your support and we hope you enjoy 2019.05 and our upcoming releases this year!
  2. Hi there. fellow members. I'm new on Cakewalk and I have a problem configuring the metronome: I want to set set the "count-in" option for making the metronome start sounding a couple of bars before the audio starts in order to practice and record with my guitar, but after several tries, search in this forum and looking in the reference guide, I managed nothing. I can make the metronome to sound, but always starting with the audio/playback/recording. Some details: - I'm using a Lexicon Alpha as my USB audio interface and the AlphaASIO driver. - I'm on Windows 10 pro 64-bits. - I set the clock to audio, as in the reference guide is told that if you are using only audio or audio and MIDI, you better chose this option - I set the count-in option under the metronome section to 2 bars and checked for both play and recording. - I press the spacebar to start the playback and then... the audio starts and the metronome sounds but no trace of the count-in measures/pre-roll and I don't know what to do. I use too REAPER as DAW and there, to configure the pre-roll is dead easy, but here I feel really lost. For what I saw this far of Cakewalk is seems a really nice DAW full of really good features, but I need this to work with it. Can someone help me, please?
  3. Improving CbB means many things to all of us, whether it’s improving stability, adding new features or improving existing ones (audio editing is a big one by all accounts!). For others, improvement means increasing software reliability. It’s all critical, so we’re pleased to announce that the 2019.05 release brings a healthy dose of both new and improved - our top stories being support for ARA 2 and multi-clip slip stretching! On top of bringing lots of new functionality to life, the team put massive focus on bug fixing and improving the state of slip editing in general, addressing a multitude of long standing issues. We’re super excited about this one, folks! Features & Enhancements ARA 2 (Audio Random Access) plug-in support. ARA 2 provides tighter, more efficient app integration of next generation ARA plug-ins such as Melodyne 4, including sharing tracks, regions, selection, as well as other project settings Improved editing of ARA 2 regions with a shared view across all plug-in instances Multi-clip slip stretching (hold down CTRL+SHIFT, then drag any selected clip edge to stretch all selected clips, or use the Stretch tool) The global Timing tool has been renamed to Stretch tool The Gain knob in the Inspector controls either audio Input Gain or MIDI Velocity Offset for Instrument tracks, depending on whether the Audio tab or MIDI tab is selected Updated zplane élastique v3.3.0.23501 audio stretching and pitch shifting with bug fixes and performance enhancements The Stretch tool (available by right-clicking the Edit tool in the Control Bar) now works on multiple selected clips, and also supports lasso selection and time selection Bug Fixes Clip Properties Inspector shows incorrect M:B:T clip length (actual length + 1 measure) Step Record continues to record to the original track after you switch focus to another armed track Arpeggiator Rate control fails to update when the parameter is automated MIDI only projects are immediately marked as dirty on file open Accessing menu commands can unnecessarily mark a project as dirty Bounce to Clip(s) results in mono data if a clip envelope is selected; Bounce to Clip(s) is now unavailable if the selection does not contain MIDI or audio data Intermittent crash when opening projects Closing a project immediately after opening can cause a crash Staff view fails to persist on project load Opening lyrics view when transport is playing causes crash Slip editing allows clips to be made zero length Clip waveform sometimes disappears while slip stretching Waveform display in split audio clip appears to adjust crop when slip stretching Slip Stretching MIDI clip causes clip data to disappear Slip Stretching cropped MIDI clip causes clip data to change unexpectedly Undoing slip stretching of audio clips could sometimes not restore the clip to its original state Slip Stretching clip to max, then dragging in opposite direction causes clamp to fail After stretching a clip to the max 400%, releasing the mouse, then attempting to stretch the left edge further causes all stretching to get lost unexpectedly Drag copying an ARA Region FX clip to create a new clip can result in a crash Tracks still visible in Melodyne after deleting or freezing tracks with Region FX clips Melodyne UI doesn't show slip stretching preview while editing until mouse up Canceling from a slip edit or slip stretch doesn't restore ARA regions in Melodyne When slip stretching a Melodyne Region FX clip from the left side, Undo does not restore the Melodyne data to its original location Undoing a copied Melodyne clip leaves blobs visible in Melodyne Cropping a stretched Melodyne clip causes blobs to shift unexpectedly Melodyne does not update when changing clip start time or duration from Clip Inspector Melodyne doesn't show preview while dragging Melodyne Region FX clips Clip loses focus in Melodyne after dragging to a new track Latest release notes are here. See prior release notes. Check out all new features released to date.
  4. I'm not of the opinion that Cakewalk is losing share in the overall DAW market. Compared to 4 years ago, there are now multiple YouTube channels dedicated, or largely dedicated, to Cakewalk tips and tutorials. There's a good balance, too, with, for instance, @Xel Ohh and @AdK Studios covering hip hop/EDM methods and @Creative Sauce leaning more toward the traditional "recording studio" approach. There are others, too, and they're all very good, I've learned things from all of them. As for why there's not more coverage in traditional print media, I think that's down to the aforementioned zero budget for marketing, and, unfortunately, the free license model. BandLab don't buy ads, period. Now whether magazines are biased toward companies who do, I'll be charitable and say that it helps keep them off the radar, because the magazines' staffs don't pay attention to the product. There has always been a certain amount of quid pro quo in publications: buy our ads and we cover your products. BandLab are outside that loop, despite owning multiple music publications. The magazines know that even if they did a cover story on Cakewalk, BandLab wouldn't buy an ad in the issue. I think REAPER has the same issue: Cockos don't spend money on advertising, and consequently are never featured in SOS or CM or Beat. The fact that it's Windows-only, IMO has little to do with it, as Logic is regularly covered and only made for a much smaller platform. Mixbus and REAPER even run on Linux and you never see articles about them either. As far as hardware and other integration, sadly, our cherished freeware licensing model likely impacts that, as companies may see users of a freeware DAW as being either broke or cheapskates who don't like to spend money on music making tools. Something that also impacts it is that there are no staff dedicated to selling other companies on the benefits of integration with their products. The way it works is that at the very least, someone reaches out via phone or email and pitches the other company on how popular their DAW (or whatever) is and how their users are clamoring for better integration with their devices, how they'll both benefit from the companies being able to advertise (oh, that word again) the integration. This is one of the things that going to NAMM in Anaheim is great for, it lets companies be visible to each other and the press, and gives them a chance to stop by booths and schmooze. But we've lost the NAMM Show due to the pandemic. It used to be a good way to catch headcolds, so the caution is well-founded. That's my take on why Cakewalk gets so little press. What's worked well for REAPER is grass roots advocacy by an enthusiastic user base. That can be annoying at times, as it can come across as proselytizing. But suggesting it when someone on a forum or IRL or wherever asks "what's a good DAW?" helps. Also mentioning in notes on your Bandcamp or SoundCloud page that you made it in Cakewalk. I try to do my part and "give back" by helping people out on this forum (and occasionally on Facebook), creating multiple themes for public consumption, and submitting thorough bug reports, and the aforementioned Wikipedia editing. Remember, anyone can edit Wikipedia. There are entries for Sonar, Cakewalk, Inc., and the original program called Cakewalk. They were a mess before I edited them; grammatical errors, factual errors, timeline errors, missing information. The current program is still waiting for its own entry. So I think that for now, at least, grass roots promotion by the userbase is all Cakewalk can get. The dev staff are all industry veterans who know their way around, but they were really hired to develop, not market. Noel does keep the KVR entry up to date with each release.
  5. These are all fine ideas, but they require employees or consultants to do them. As far as I know, the only staff on Cakewalk are the developers and support. From my observations, BandLab's promotional budget for Cakewalk is next to nil. The only money I've seen them spend was sending some staff to Anaheim for the NAMM Show a couple of years back when we used to have NAMM Shows. I've suggested that there be Cakewalk laptop stickers and t-shirts made available for purchase. I've done some cleanup work on a few of the legacy Wikipedia pages, and made sure that Cakewalk by Bandlab is on all of the lists of DAW's and audio software, but there's still no page for Cakewalk by Bandlab itself.

  7. Is anyone using EW products on CbB? PLAY software is getting me mad. If I try to re-scan the VST plugins CbB gets stuck while scanning the latest VST version of the plugin. Even REAPER crashes while scanning it, but fortunately I can still using it in that DAW after the crash. Can anything be done to solve the problem? Thank you! Note: I am getting similar problems with Waves plugins (Grand Rhapsody Grand and Bass Fingers) but this time only in CbB.
  8. I just did and now NO existing projects will open. Program itself seems to start ok, but it totally freezes when I try to load any existing project!

  10. Hi Guys, I know most of the audience here, is English speaking, but here is an Urdu song, I am working on, just wanted to get some feedback from my musician friends here ... after all “music and melody” transcends languages and cultures. let me know what you guys think? Amad AKA PCODE
  11. Martin, I've seen others calling Lifetime subscribers as fools, naive or having some general lack of wisdom.....as in what did you expect. I suspect that most assessed the situation as I did. We were paying for regular updates anyway or we were on the current Gibson subscription model. I knew it was a gamble, but no more than buying into any piece of software. For the price at the time, it was a reasonable gamble that the company "could" stay alive, but if it didn't make it and honor, it wasn't a huge monetary loss. The odds were certainly better than betting in Vegas. To your point though about cynicism, I can relate. Burn me once, not to get burned twice. Incidentally, my Gibson LP's are still my best instruments and since new management took over Gibson, the 2019 to present guitars are pretty spectacular.
  12. [UPDATE 26-Jul-2022: Cakewalk 2022.06 Update 1 (build 28.06.0.034) now available] Introduction The 2022.06 release introduces Mackie control surface improvements, loop and punch record enhancements, key binding to render Region FX, support for local help, in-app update improvements, plus various enhancements and bug fixes for user reported issues, all in keeping with our goal of making Cakewalk as reliable and enjoyable as possible. Please note that in order to automatically keep your activation status up to date, Cakewalk will renew your activation status whenever a new version of the application is installed and run for the first time, and when you sign in to BandLab from within Cakewalk. If you have never signed in to BandLab from within Cakewalk, you will be prompted once to sign in. The following highlights are intended to provide an overview of the more significant changes. Please also refer to the new features section of our documentation for more detailed information on the features. Please give us feedback on this release. We hope you like it! Update Jul 26 2022: 2022.06 Update 1 (build 28.06.0.034) Bug fixes: Audio Export presets not changing file type Extend Takes to Punch Out Time always reverts to loop End time when not loop comping Extend Takes to Punch Out Time / Comping Loop extend clip behavior should also work for MIDI clip recording Note name changes in Piano Roll view revert after clicking note Tracks are added in reverse order when moving to folder Process Effect plugin window requires minimum size Some users experiencing Activation Error 20 Updated to latest Microsoft VC redistributables 2022.06 Highlights Automatically extend final take when loop recording in Comping mode When loop recording in Comping mode , the last take now automatically extends to the loop end time if more than one loop iteration was recorded. This prevents previous takes from being split at the transport stop time, and makes comping much easier because each take is a complete clip. Note: If you loop record in Comping mode and also have auto punch Extend Takes to Punch Out Time enabled, then the last take will be extended to whichever occurs first: loop end or punch out time. Old behavior (incomplete last take and split clips): New behavior (complete last take and no split clips): Option to automatically extend final take when punch recording When Auto Punch recording, Cakewalk automatically splits all takes at the position where you stop recording. This happens if the transport is stopped before the punch out time. This behavior may not be desirable in some cases, such as when speed comping, where you want each take to be a complete clip. To prevent this behavior, Cakewalk now provides an option to extend the final take to the Auto Punch end. Right-click the Record button to open the Preferences dialog box, then enable Extend Takes to Punch Out Time. Note: The Extend Takes to Punch Out Time option also requires that Auto Punch is enabled. Mackie control surface improvements The Mackie Control surface includes several new enhancements. New compatibility modes In addition to the recommended Cakewalk/SONAR mode, the Mackie Control surface now supports two extra emulation modes that can be used if your control surface does not provide a dedicated Cakewalk/SONAR mode: Mackie Control Universal (Universal Mode). Emulates Mackie’s default button layout. Mackie Control Universal (Cubase Mode). Emulates Mackie’s Cubase/Nuendo button layout. It is important that both Cakewalk and your control surface are configured to use the same mode in order to ensure that buttons on the control surface map to the correct functions in Cakewalk. Note: If your control surface provides a Cakewalk/SONAR mode, we recommend using this mode to provide maximum compatibility. Disable Handshake now checked by default Earlier versions of the Mackie Control protocol required a handshake during the initialization of the control surface. Mackie removed this requirement in later versions. To reflect this change, the Disable Handshake option is now checked by default to bypass the handshake process. Note: You may have to uncheck Disable Handshake on older devices when using the Cakewalk/SONAR mode. Performance enhancement Routing and track/bus ordering are now cached internally in order to avoid unnecessary repeated calculations during the control surface refresh process. This results in improved UI performance when using a very fast refresh rate. The cache is reset every time the routing or track ordering changes, and then rebuilt again on the next query from the control surface. Option to open parent track folder when changing track focus The Track view Options menu contains a new Expand Track Folder on Track Focus option, which automatically opens the focused track’s parent folder if it’s currently closed. This behavior may be desirable when using control surfaces or changing track focus via the Console view. Key binding to render Region FX A new key binding named Render Region FX allows you to render any Region FX for any active Region FX in the current clip selection. You can assign the key binding in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Keyboard Shortcuts (under Area: Global Bindings). Support for local help Cakewalk provides optional local help. To enable local help, go to Edit > Preferences > File - Advanced and select Always Use Local Help. When you enable local help for the first time, Cakewalk presents a toast notification to download and install the local help, and whenever updated local help is available. If your computer is not connected to the internet, Cakewalk will default to showing local help until an internet connection becomes available. Note: Offline help is only available in English. Tip: If you would like to use local help on a computer that is never connected to the internet, first download the local help from another computer that is connected to the internet, then copy the CakewalkHelp_Documentation_1.0.0.n.exe installer (found in \Downloads\Cakewalk) to removable media that you can transfer to your offline Cakewalk computer. Alternatively, copy the installed Cakewalk.chm file from the Cakewalk root folder (default is \Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core). In-app update improvements Cakewalk now supports in-app download of optional content that was previously only available from either BandLab Assistant or the Cakewalk Web installer (Studio Instruments Suite, Drum Replacer, Melodyne trial, Theme Editor, and demo projects). To see all available updates, select Help > Check for Updates. If any optional content has not been installed yet, or an update is available, Cakewalk presents a toast notification to download and install the content. Add file name to the download progress toast notification so users know what is being downloaded. Display error message when attempting to download multiple updates or checking for updates while one is in progress. Support for ARM64 PCs running Windows 11 for ARM Cakewalk will now install to ARM64 PCs running Windows 11 for ARM. Latest release notes are here. See prior release notes. 18. There are only a handful of musicians as universally loved and respected as Quincy Jones. I remember seeing Q in person, at a NAMM show many years ago. Other celebs had hurried past fans into their limos, but not Q. He took selfies with fans and autographed anything they stuck in front of him, smiling the whole time. Classy dude. Rashida Jones' Grammy-winning biography is on Netflix right now. It's worth checking out. His multiple brushes with death, often triggered by overwork, have made him philosophical about music and life in general. He would be such a cool guy to hang out with, I think.
  19. I fully agree. After all, having to rely on third-party plugins or applications to perform functions that are native to other paid DAWs is something I believe they are working very hard to bring to the new Cakewalk Sonar DAW. I hope that the suggestions for improvements and workflow that have been presented to Cakewalk since 2019 are implemented and not overlooked. Otherwise, we will see a major exodus of users (which I find obvious). When it comes to paying, competition becomes strong and opens up a range of other options. I am eager to see the new Cakewalk Sonar and whether it will be worth the investment in 2023 or if it would be better to switch to another paid DAW.
  20. Hi, everyone, I’m a relatively new Cakewalk user, switching from Reason. I love Cakewalk, the sound, the options, the features (I found the Pro Channel awesome), the graphic interface, the modularity, and the countless options. The sound of the embedded tools, to me, is light years ahead of my experience with Reason, and the modularity opens up a lot of versatility in terms of the sound you can achieve. I've found there are, however, a few workflow improvements that can be made, in my opinion, to make working in Cakewalk almost reflex, without having to think, and allow you to focus exclusively on the sound, instead of procedures and workarounds - things that you would intuitively do, but aren't available, things that can replace more complicated operations and looking through menus, mass inserts and adjustments of modules, replicating settings, etc. So I put together a list of suggestions, a few weeks ago. It's around 75 items, and it covers everything from glitches to appearance, but mainly workflow improvements. I'd like to see how many of you guys would like to see them implemented, too, and hope to see as many of them in future releases. I’ve grouped them into three categories, one about necessary fixes, which refer mainly to stability, the ability to remember settings, etc. The second one refers to improvements in the workflow, which could see a better, streamlined processes, some inspired from my experience with Reason, most just by working, and recording my go to reflexes or natural wishes. The third one is a list of personal wishes, that would make Cakewalk like a present box – kind of the cherry on top - and complete in every aspect, at least, to my personal subjective wishes. So here they go. Hope you find them desirable. Cheers and happy holidays! PS> Any idea that you think is useful, and you would like to see implemented, you can select individually and then click on the "quote selection" pop-up, to add in your reply. With enough support, maybe we can see them in the future. Improvements A. Instrument Tracks “Assign to track” option in the instrument/soft synth creation dialog, in the rack, which replace instrument in Instrument Tracks and convert MIDI track to Instrument track, if synth is assigned to a MIDI track. All the in/out associations and conversion of MIDI track to Instrument track be done automatically on “assigning to track”, or menu selection. Allow the Synth Rack and browser windows to be opened in the Console View (both docked and undocked mode). Drag and drop soft synth in the free space (Track and Console View) creates Instrument Track (plus right click insert option in the Console View). Drag and drop soft synth on track (other than in the FX box) (Track and Console View) replaces soft synth in Instrument Track. Drag and drop instrument/synth on MIDI track automatically converts to Instrument Track – in both Track and Console view. Open instruments/synths, in the Console View, on double click on the track icon, instead of opening the icon menu. To open the icon menu, right click. Being able to open instrument/soft synth in the Console view is very important during the mixing process, as there is often need to adjust parameters – output volume, reverb, EQ or compression adjustments in light of any PC adjustments and blending you need to do – for the instruments that allow internal FX options, etc. As of now you need you need a few clicks, and flipping through the windows, to do that. “Replace Synth” option in the Console view, on right click on the instrument icon of Track, same as in the Track View. B. Undo Make Undo operate for all actions performed in the DAW, including PC module/VST plugin parameter variations. C. MIDI Editing Workflow (Track View) Double click in free area writes default length note in PRV, just like now. Double click and drag writes variable length note, instead of single click and drag, like now. Select area/note in PRV with left click – instead of right click, which is counter intuitive. Same for automation nodes, etc. Double click on note deletes it, exactly the opposite of writing it, instead of right click, which is counter intuitive. Provides symmetrical and reflex write/delete, with the same operation. Right click on note/note selection opens up processing FX menu, with Transpose, Quantize, and other usual note editing options available directly in the menu. Quantize, Transpose, Time Stretch, and Velocity be available as direct options on the right-click-on-clip menu, instead of being found in the FX tree submenu, like know – that unnecessarily complicates access. The other, less usual FX stay in the sub tree menu, under “Other FX”. This simplifies access to the most usual operations. Double click on empty lane of Instrument/MIDI track, in Clip Mode, creates clip to default size. Double click and drag creates clip to drag size. Double click on title bar of clip opens PRV, in Notes mode, just as in Clip mode. Also consistent with the usual navigation behavior in all software, where double clicking on item opens it. Resize clip, Fade In/Fade Out available in Notes Mode, just as in Clip mode. This provides consistent behavior between Notes/Clip visualizations, and allows for quick access to PRV, without having to check or toggle the visualization in the track properties. Double click on wave clip opens Clip Editing View (Auto Zoom In), where you can micro cut, delete, move audio to grid, etc. Clicking on existing note in Piano Roll View (PRV) plays instrument note. Copying (CTRL+C) of clip automatically positions the cursor at the end of clip. Stretch/length note adjustment menu on right click menu, on note selection/clip. D. Audio & Track Management (Track View) Selecting track + DEL deletes track (with/without confirmation dialog), and not the last selected clips in track - change selection focus to track on track select (also see Console View DEL track). Selecting FX module + DEL deletes module (also see Console View DEL track). Audio clip copy and paste to take place in the track lane where mouse cursor was last clicked (clicking/cursor in a track lane automatically selects that track for pasting). Drag and drop (import) audio over MIDI track automatically opens Extract MIDI dialog. Moving cursor on upper ruler bar takes into account the current Snap To setting. Closing any open Region FX window reverts to the previous active View, not to automatically to the Console View, as it does now. Export Audio Clip option on right click menu – export directly “as is” without any processing. Adjust amplitude of audio clips with on-clip Volume knob (Audition style). E. Pro Channel Module Options, Mix Tracks (Console View) (Double) click on EQ graph window in Track to open full EQ window, not only in PC, like now. Eliminates unnecessary clicking and scrolling. Allow EQ window to be freely repositioned on the screen. CTRL + Mouse adjustment adjusts any parameter of any PC module (including menu choice for reverb types in REmatrix) across all tracks containing that module, without having to select any tracks. When you select specific tracks, the adjustment only applies to selected tracks. Right now, that option is only available for Power On/Power Off, and for selected tracks only. CTRL + Insert PC Module on a Pro Channel automatically inserts that module on all tracks. If specific tracks are selected, the insert is made on all selected tracks. Copy/Paste function for PC Modules across tracks. The pasted PC Module retains all the settings of the original, copied one. Patch/Setting copy/paste function for PC Modules across tracks. Same as above, but referring exclusively to copying settings from one module to the other. Drag and Drop PC Module from on track to another, same way as for FXs (again, consistent, intuitive behavior throughout). If the target track doesn’t contain the respective PC module, drop inserts PC Module, with the original settings. If the PC Module is already inserted, drag and drop on it copies the settings. Mass insert/changes settings of PC Modules: CTRL + Drag and Drop PC Module on any of the tracks of a selection automatically inserts/changes settings of the corresponding PC Module on all selected tracks. Mass duplicate FX modules: CTRL + Drag and Drop FX plugin on any track of a selection automatically inserts that FX plugin on all selected tracks (same as above). Mass track reroute (Select tracks + select route menu option in any of the selected tracks) (implemented). Track focus change when clicking on track, instead of only on the track number, like now. Makes it easier and faster to select, without having to think where to click. "Duplicate Track" option in the Console View, in the right click menu, same as in the Track View. Moving/reordering tracks by click (in any area without commands, including icon area) and drop, in Console view, without pressing ALT, like now. That seems unnecessary. The exact same way it now happens in the Track View, where ALT is not needed - have the exact procedure for the same thing, across the different views, for consistent behavior. That complicates things unnecessarily, and makes you need to remember different procedures for the exact thing, instead of just being immersed, and performing tasks on reflex. Selecting track/FX plugin/PC Module + DEL deletes track/FX plugin/PC Module (with/without confirmation dialog). Right now, when you select a track/FX module, and press DEL, in Console View, it deletes any previously selected audio/note clips in the Sequencer, which is strange. In Console View, make the Module Menu available as a graphic section with toggle buttons (maybe on the docking bar) for opening or collapsing any of the sections of the Console (for instance “Sends”, and any other module existing in the Module Menu), instead of opening/collapsing it from the View menu. New Open Bus Section toggle button to fully expand the Master/Buses section of the Console View, to the right, to full view (taking into account their current visualization settings – collapsed, PC open, etc.) the same the PC/Properties section does, to the left; then resume previous position on reclick of toggle button. Stereo/Mono toggle button on Instrument tracks, same as on Audio tracks. It could work by enforcing mono/stereo mode on source VSTs, same as the check option available in the VST Properties/shell (implemented). Solo override Mute – on Soloing a muted track, play solo track(s) as if it/they weren’t muted. Allow renaming of FX modules. F. Song Playing/Navigation On activating Play In Loop, Punch In Recording, etc., automatically use current selection to, without having to additionally click on "set selection to", first. That seems unnecessary. Allow cursor to play outside the loop, even with "Loop" button on, after stop and replay, if you set it to a position outside the loop, and only play within the loop if placed anywhere inside it. Allow the Now Slider in the Control Bar to readjust cursor position while playing. On “Stop Rewind Marker To Now Position” selected in Track View/Options, Stop button leaves cursor in current playing position. Pressing stop again moves cursor to Now position. Repeated Stop button pressing toggles between the two. This way that setting can be eliminated altogether. Pressing Stop once leaves cursor where in current position. Pressing Stop twice goes to Now position. Simple to use. Both options are available at all times without setting modifications, and the behavior keeps consistent on all projects. Allow navigator to be repositioned at the bottom of screen, above the control bar, in track view. Allow to make that default for all projects, and also remember position automatically for each project. Moving VSTs into different categories, in the browser, by drag and drop into folder, same as in Windows Explorer. Aim Assist for position cursor on Time Ruler be placed above/under the Time Ruler, without hindering viewing of cursor on the ruler. Mouse Scroll wheel moves slider on both scroll bars (vertical and horizontal scrolling), on placing cursor over them - in all Workspaces. G. Saving Saving project automatically resets autosave counters to zero. No need for autosave to kick in only seconds after the project has been manually saved. Disable automatic autosave after each undo. Let autosave work according to the setting in preferences without additional interventions. Unnecessary autosave takes time and interrupts flow. H. Appearance Add transparency slider for background (native theme) colors, in the track color change dialog (and only for the colored track areas). This will allow track colors to be less affected by the native theme (dark/light/etc.) and display closer to their natural hue (implemented). Allow marker/song sections in the Track View, which can be selected as blocks/chunks, to be assigned individual colors - will affect the background of the section, and not the clip colors - this will help easily visualizing song sections in one glance. Necessary fixes I. Crashing Fixing crashing on VST conflicts – why not just isolate the conflicting VST, and close it, instead of letting it crash the DAW (with maybe an explicit message as to what the problem is). I get crashes when clicking on the stereo/mono toggle button on the Master fader, when I try to reorder tracks in the Track View, when I bulk adjust PC modules pots in the Console view, and in all kinds or random situations. It’s either VSTs that crash the program, or even PC modules. That’s a big issue. J. Remember Project settings (these are on my machine, I don't know if everybody has them, it might vary from one person to the next) Fixing irregular behavior where the Control bar setup is not remembered, on project open. Fixing irregular behavior where mass variation of the REmatrix across several selected tracks (CTRL + mouse adjustment) during playback causes the knobs to be varied by different amounts. Fixing irregular behavior where VSTs that use crosstalk among tracks reset their settings to the default values, under various circumstances. Remember the open/collapsed status of one knob plugin windows, in the Pro Channel of Instrument tracks, on project open (Console View). They always start up as open, on project reload, and need to be reclosed individually, which is really annoying. Remember the order of the Browser, Synth Rack and Help windows, in the right side dock, which always resets on project re-open. Remember the Track View>MIDI/Show Velocity in MIDI clips visualization setting for projects. Remember the Track View>VIEW/Auto Track Zoom setting for projects. Remember the PRV controller pane parameter choice. K. Drivers Recognize 24 bit ASIO drivers, instead of 16 bit, on some soundcards (for instance SB Audigy series). On engine dropouts, don’t stop playing, reset the engine, and keep playing (implemented in the 2019.11 release). Allow projects to work with no MIDI out selection in Preferences/Drivers, or provide a "No MIDI out" check option, instead of allowing the lack of selection of a midi out to cause all synths loaded to automatically be assigned as midi out destination for all midi tracks, which causes the project to behave erratically. Awesome L. Add the SSL 4K channel compressor (complete with Autogain and Peak attack mode, just as the original – I know this may be too much to ask, but those features are magical in the SSL channel compressor - autogain basically tells you what the best compression setting is, and the peak mode allows for tracks to be sent back in the mix without audibly impacting the attack), as third Pro Channel compressor option. Add the CA-2A compressor to the Pro Channel, and as insert FX. I think Cakewalk's is one of the best emulations in the business (have it as a free RE in Reason) (implemented with PC2A, in 2021.04). New Wow/Flutter knob in the Tape Emulator. Maybe review the high/mid-high freq softening in the Tape Emulator. Separate one knob modules in the Pro Channels for Harshness, separate for guitars, and Drums/vocals. The general one available now, is a great idea, and I love it, and use it, but it’s kind of in the middle. HP + LP filters added to the REMatrix Solo, on the wet signal, and integrated within the PC interface. Pro Channel modules available as insert FXs. Fully programmable shortcuts, without limitations (implemented).
  21. Hi Folks, the same ol story with melodyne. Bug is not fixed. I can repeat it: 1. Open a project 2. Click on a short vocal part and create a region-fx (Ctrl+M) with melodyne 3. Melodyne Window open with blobs and melodic algorythm (Standard) ... all seems to be ok 4. In melodyne window menu go to edit / Undo 5. You see now the blobs in percussion mode 6. Go to Undo (Ctrl-Z) in CbB menu to close and undo the region-fx 7. NOW click on the same vocal part or another clip to highlight it and create once more a region-fx with melodyne Melodyne window opens and you will see NOTHING! An empty window without blobs! It's not possible to select any algorythm. Please can somebody try it and confirm? Does anyone have a solution to the problem that existed before with version 4.1?

  23. I can no longer install a control surface if I select Mackie Control. Instead of Mackie Control showing up after I add it (-1) shows up and the device will not connect. This never happened until I installed the October 2019 Windows 10 Upgrade. This happens in Bandlab Cakewalk (latest version) as well as the last version of Sonar Platinum. I have no problem installing the devices with Studio One 4 so it leads me to believe it is a compatibility issue with Cakewalk and the latest version of Windows. Any suggestions for a fix? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave

  25. That was recent history, after Tracktion broke free from Mackie's clutches, where they were unfortunately left nearly abandoned for 5 years... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracktion_Waveform Tracktion was developed by independent UK designer/programmer Julian Storer, and released in 2002 by UK-based Raw Material Software. US-based Mackie is a division of LOUD Technologies specializing in studio recording and live sound products. It took over the distribution of Tracktion in 2003. It was sold in standalone, boxed retail versions and bundled with Mackie, Tapco, and Echo Audio computer-audio interfaces and digital-capable mixing boards. Although no official word came from Mackie, the user's understanding was that Tracktion had been discontinued as the company issued no updates, communication, or announcements on it since January 2008. However, at the January 2013 NAMM show, Tracktion's original developer Julian Storer announced he had reacquired control of the software and would continue developing Tracktion with his new Tracktion Software Company.
