This has been addressed now Andy there has been some issues with DNS at the cakewalk end of things. There is a comment from Noel in the main forum upstairs.
Thanks @Wookiee,
I'll have a read of Noel's post.
Still not working for me at the moment but perhaps now is the time to flush stuff out of the system.
Cheers

No, James, just this one at the moment.

Having a bit of a strange problem my end at the moment with regards to accessing this forum.
At home, while connected to my router, either hard wired or wifi I get an error trying to connect.
I am currently tethered to my mobile on its 4G connection as that seems to be working okay.
Any ideas?
I've tried doing the flush DNS thing.
I've cleared cookies.
I've rebooted my router.

Thanks, @Jim Hurley
I need to get on with other stuff now, like installing more stuff, but I will definitely come back at this at some point.
You are right about the CPU speed. Can't remember the figures exactly but they were less than 5k. I have yet to get into tweaking stuff. Once I have my all my software up and running I'll see what I have to do and might ask nearer at the time here.
cheers, and thanks again,
andy

Just stopped Prime95 and the CPU temps dropped quick quickly from around the mid fifties to the mid thirties. Is that good? I'm guessing that the Noctua CPU cooler I have is pretty decent

HWInfo64
Just got back to my room after having had breakfast and done a few chores.
Yes, I found that HWInfo and I've been running it. Not sure what I'm looking at, except some of the numbers, of course.
I get some sort of a warning about an embedded controller and I had to click on continue to get the sensor readouts.
So, after 100 minutes, with CPU at 100%, highest single CPU core temperature = 65 deg C.
No thermal throttling.
Power limit was exceeded.
7 minutes ago, Jim Hurley said:Is your room getting warmer?
Haha! Yeah, noticeably
I have a digital thermometer in my little studio.
This morning it was sitting at around 23.5 deg C.
Right now, with not having any windows or doors open, it has reached 25.8 deg C.
And although the air coming out of the case vents isn't particularly high, or even warm, it is definitely a touch warmer than before.

Ah, something was happening, I should have had task manager open.
@Jim Hurley, which hardware monitor are you using?

Thanks Jim,
I've downloaded Prime95 and followed the torture test instructions but not much happens. Must be doing something wrong...

Try running Prime95 AVX loads with the small FFT torture test.

This is on an i5-9600K that I use for web browsing. I ran a similar test on the 9900K overnight and reached 103C but no critical events or errors.
Hiya Jim,
I got this when clicking on that link:-
I'll Google Prime95, see what that brings up.
cheers

Grr. I am clean installing windows now. Something clicked and I just couldnt log inn. Gotta LOVE Microsoft right?
That is even worse news, @ØSkald 😞
Most peeps seem to have images of their OS but I don't bother with that. I'm not sure if it always works.
Good luck with your install

I love Komplete, but dont love NI. Well I dont hate them ether, but now they have trouble with a winfows update hindering Windows to see some hardware. So i have my Windows Update on hold....
Oh dear, sorry to hear about that, what a pain.
Regarding Komplete, I'm the other way round. I admit that it is a great tool, with lots to go at, but I reckon I could blow a whole year's budget, and more, getting set up with Komplete and all the stuff I would want to get, hardware and software, so I deliberately stay clear of that particular rabbit hole.

Cobalt is one of my favourite synths. It's my go to for lead sounds. It's very similar to the Korg DW8000.
I'm not familiar with the DW8000. 1985 it was released, apparently. A "hybrid" digital analogue synth. But by 1985 I think I had sold my small collection of Roland analogue stuff and was not making music at all. A search on Google puts the original price at around $1600 and at that time I reckon I was earning around £200 a week so easily eight weeks wages over here in the UK (even though the pound/dollar exchange rate was in our favour, prices for this stuff always ended up being pounds = dollar).
This track of mine was a couple of instances of Cobalt and loads of delay and reverb (because I can). Not a particularly interesting piece but I liked the pad sound I created, which has the pitch altered ever so slightly by one of the envelopes, similar to some Vangelis type sounds on the CS-80:-

And although there are a tonne of great presets, Cobalt makes me want to start from scratch and develop something "new."
Great little freebie

Okay, just added a little handy freebie synth called Cobalt by Sanford Sound Design called Cobalt. No fancy installers here, just a matter of copying the supplied files and folders to where you want your VST stuff. Works fine...
And I have also added my three u-he synths, Hive (one of my go-to synths), Podolski (free) and Zebralette (free). Everything went to plan.
That concludes all the VSTi
Now for the remaining VST effects... About fourteen plugins from seven vendors. Getting late again here, though, so might knock off for the night and continue tomorrow morning. Been a long day... And although my missus hasn't said anything, she will be a little bit cheesed off with me right now......

After the American Pie Movie
Fortunately I have never watched that particular historical documentary, so I'm okay with apple pie, so long as it isn't adulterated with fecking raisins, FFS. I mean, what do raisins bring to the party?

It's obvious you need a larger monitor
I was thinking of getting a smaller one so I can see my little tower...

Meanwhile, it's Saturday night and I'm discussing the merits of various pies with people I'm never likely to meet.
If my 20 yr old self could see me now I'm sure he'd have something to say about that.
A very good point.

Okay, Native Instruments stuff, including Absynth 5, Reaktor 6, Guitar Rig 5, Battery 4 and some additional Reaktor stuff is all now installed and working... On to the next thing...

Hmmm I think I'll stick to my Chicken Pot Pie
Never did get to like chicken pie. Over here they always tend to pair chicken with mushroom and as much as I like me mushrooms I hate it when they put them in pies...

As a result I now think of NI as NA (Never Again)
Yeah, I can understand that.
I love three things of theirs, though. Absynth, Reaktor and Guitar Rig. I like Battery too but don't use it much lately since going on that "ambient journey..."
So I'm kinda sticking with it, for now.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the concept of a warm pork pie. Must be a [insert region here] thing.
Well, it could be piping hot. Or cold, straight out of the fridge. But warm is nice too, in my opinion
And some Houses of Parliament Sauce
