  1. DallasSteve's post in MIDI Keyboard Delay was marked as the answer

Thanks for the reply.  I think I just found the problem.  I realized one thing I am doing different is I am using bluetooth headphones this morning.  So I turned them off.  It sounds like that solved the problem.  Now when I press a key on the MIDI keyboard I get the normal prompt sound response.  But that leaves me puzzled why the playback in Cakewalk sounds normal in the bluetooth headphones, but the keyboard notes have a delay.  If anyone has a thought on that, I'd be interested.  If anyone knows how to get the delay out of the bluetooth headphones that would be helpful, too.  It's nice to work with them, but I can work with speakers or wired headphones to continue with my project.

It looks like I solved the problem.  I inserted a new Audio track, I copied the clip from the original track to the new track, and now I can work on it because that new track was not frozen.
  3. DallasSteve's post in Why Are Some Notes Silent? was marked as the answer
I did some more testing and found that if I moved the silent note up or down it sounded, but at that position no sound.
Then I played some more and found that the note before it overlapped the 1/8 note boundary by a few ticks.  If I moved the previous note back a few ticks or shortened its duration then the silent note sounded.  So the note overlapped it and caused it to be silent.  Is that the correct behavior for Cakewalk?
I did one more test.  Its output was assigned to the SI-Bass synth.  So I switched to the Cakewalk TTS synth and it sounded when overlapped.  It appears the glitch may be in the SI-Bass synth.  Very quirky.

I hadn't tried re-booting the machine, but it looks like I solved the problem.  I was looking at the Driver Settings dialog box I posted above.  I decided to click Wave Profiler.  That ran a check on the system.  I then closed and re-opened Cakewalk, recorded a vocal clip again and it came out clean.  So I will mark this as the solution and if I have the problem again I will try running Wave Profiler.
  5. DallasSteve's post in Why won't some audio tracks transpose? was marked as the answer
I found the answer to this question.  I processed those clips with Melodyne and I forgot to turn it off.  So it was still playing the Melodyne version that did not get transposed.

Problem solved.  I found a place near the top where I could grab the Multidock (I think that's the name) and pull it down back into docked position.

My first solution didn't work after all.  Here is the status of the Audio drivers related to my set up:
ASIO - My USB microphone won't work in ASIO
    WDM/KS - Doesn't work in Cakewalk
WASAPI Exclusive - The USB microphone works, but it is too quiet to be useful, even at max volume
WASAPI Shared - The USB microphone works, but it is delayed one half beat on playback
MME (32-bit) - That is my solution; the sound seems a little muddy, but it works (my voice isn't that great anyway)
I don't know what was different last week.  Then I think I was using WASAPI Shared and it worked, but now it is a half beat late.

  8. DallasSteve's post in MIcrophone not working was marked as the answer
I solved the initial problem.  I found the page below that said if I'm using a USB microphone I need to set the driver to WASAPI Shared.  After doing this I was able to hear my voice in the microphone.  The input level is way too loud.  I will study how to adjust that next.  If anyone knows the answer, that would be helpful.

I found a YouTube tutorial on using a Midi keyboard with Cakewalk.  I followed its steps which included adding a new instrument track of Cakewalk TTS.  So I now had 2 instances of it in my project.  When I set my keyboard track output to the second instance, it worked.  I can hear the keys when I press them now.  So I guess the original instance of Cakewalk TTS had some configuration that wasn't compatible with the Midi track number 8 in my example.  So my problem is solved.  If the sound isn't working from the existing soft synth, I'll try adding a new one.  Maybe someday I'll understand what wasn't configured correctly.
    Thanks, Steve
