  1. I love each and every second of this. The concept is great and all performance by all was excellent. What a treat! I'll have to forward this to my cousins out in British Columbia. I'm sure that they will get a kick out of this.
  2. Ahhh perfection. This is indeed a beautiful song -- vocal performance, lyrics/story, instrument and instrumental performance. Love that bass in the BGV's!

    Weary

Well done Doug! I listened to both versions and enjoyed both. I am generally an old style Blues, R 'n R, rockabilly, jump Blues, etc. kind of guy. Being such - electric is what I enjoy most. However, I really like you acoustic version of this song. It just seemed to fit the title, lyrics, melody, and instrumentation like a good pair of gloves. Nice one indeed!
  4. Hi Bjorn. Thanks for listening and your comments. I have received some good advice and I will be making some changes to the song soon. Then comes the task of the video. Do you have any good sources (free or paid) for video clips? Thanks again for the encouragement! Thank you Douglas. Hopefully, later this week I will be making corrections to this song. I definitely will try and bring up the kick on the drums and I am probably going to pan the guitar on the right a wee bit more to the right. I may tone down the delay just a bit depending on how it sounds once it is moved. Thanks again. Hi Daryl. Thanks for the kind words. I was surprised when I was looking for surf music on-line at how much new stuff (the last 10 to 15 years) has been produced. That pleased me as it is one of my new favourite genre. As a young guy in the '60's and '70's I was into SCUBA and not surfing. There is not much in the way of surfing waves on the Gulf of Mexico coast. Hey Lynn. You are right -- there is a link between surf and rockabilly instrumentals (maybe it has something to do with reverb and delay?) Do you still have that 1965 Strat and 1966 amp? It probably is worth some $ now. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!! BTW, great song that you recently posted. Hi Sabby. Thanks for taking the time to listen and I appreciate your comments. I will probably be making a couple of minor changes (above) but nothing dramatic. Thanks again!!!
  5. Absoflippinlutely cool sounds. I understand the reference above to Copeland's stuff. I also pick up a little bit of a Devo vibe in the timing and keyboard sound (e.g., Satisfaction). You really have been putting out some interesting, creative and well done work recently. Luv the guitar playing and your vocals are top notch.

    Desert Chant

Love it Bjorn!!! When my son was young I used to take him to some pow wows (one in St. Pete and one just north of Tampa). They would host some of the dancing, drumming, and chanting at these events (the Seminole Tribe used to serve up some great pumpkin fry bread). The drumming and chanting at these events was almost hypnotic and really attracted me. I appreciated this song as it took me back to some good times with my son. BTW, I can appreciate being stuck on getting songs done. I have recently worked on about 6 different versions of a song and haven't found one that I like yet. I have walked away from it for a while in the hope that when I come back to it --- I can finish it properly. Thanks for posting this.
  7. Nice driving rocker Douglas. Mix sounds good to me. I didn't hear a duet but I did hear some BGV harmonies and they sounded good!

    Angels

Ditto to the comments above. A very nice, cool, and relaxing feel to this song. Well done indeed!
  9. Hi tom. Surf is up. By the look of the 3 topical disturbances out in the Atlantic, it might be up too much, in a few days, for we Florida folks. Thanks for listening and for your comments. Hi Wookiee and Nigel. I am commenting to you both at the same time as you both had the same suggestion concerning the delay. I know that i tend to over use delay and reverb. I was trying to emulate some of my favourite surf bands (or bands that do some surf songs), such as the Eliminators, Atlantics, Messur Chups, and one of my newly discovered fav's the Break. They tend to crank up on that echo-like sound. BTW, if anyone is familiar with the Break -- how do they get the bass to sound that way? Well, I went back and listened to this song again and I must say that may have over done it a bit. In particular, I am satisfied with the sound of the guitar panned left but the guitar panned right does intrude on the other sounds. I also thought that I had panned it more to the right but listening to the SoundClick post it sounds like it is almost coming from the middle most of the time. Hey, Wookiee, I will also try and address bumping up the bass pedal on the drums. I'm going to see if I get any more suggestions and then make the fixes and attempt a video. Thanks you. I very much appreciate your input and suggestions.

    Wasted Years

Beautiful song Gary. I too think that your vocal is excellent and carries the song. BGV's would certainly add to what is already an excellent song. Well done indeed!

  12. Always the fan Jesse. I was trying to keep up with the drums on this one - the most man. Solid and cool.

    Touch

Brilliant!!!! The music is excellent and the excellent imagery complements the music. This video/song just exudes talent by all involved. It's always a treat to listen-to/watch what you post.

    ...

The instrumentation was perfect for that country like feel. Your vocals (and harmonies) were perfect for the music and really carried across a great story. Very well done indeed!!!
  15. Terrific lyrics - you are lucky to have your wife but I bet your wife might feel she has a good deal of luck in having you. I'm always a big fan of your vocals and harmony. I did not hear the "toppy" version but this "top less" (strike that and reverse it) sounds top notch!

    El Oro

Well done! This song does indeed capture the spirit of the late 1960's psychedelic sound. That guitar panned hard right certainly personified the 1960's Psyc. guitar.
  17. I have been listening to a bit of surf music by several artist (e.g., the Surfphonics, Atlantics, Surfrajettes, Eliminators, etc.). So I thought that I might give it a go on a new surf instrumental. I have been thinking about doing a video along with it. However, I would appreciate any input on the song before I attempt the video. Thanks!!! 18. My apologies for the late response. This song slid down the list rather fast and I lost track of it. Thanks Wookiee! I appreciate the kind comments and yes indeed, I have always found that cooperation works a lot better than competition. Right now we need all the cooperation that we can get. Hi Leadfoot. Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and for your very kind comments. Hey Nigel. Thanks very much for your very kind comments. BTW, I really love your latest post. It is absoflippinlutely excellent! Hi Lynn. Thank you my friend. He was indeed a man to be reckoned with and yet admired. Thanks again for your kind comments. Hi Daryl. The guitar solo was brief but I had a great time playing guitar on this one. I very much appreciate the kind words.
  19. A beautiful song indeed and a great story. Your vocal presentation is excellent.
  20. I have to agree with Starise (above) -- luv the addition of the drums and you are indeed the man when it comes to the synths. However, I do have to be careful in basking in the light of the moon. I always fear that I too will become a bit more furry and that my canine teeth may start to grow (this statement followed by the howl of a wolf). 😏
  21. Great start Jon! You have gotten some good advice in the comments above. My only comment would be that there is a lot of competition between the instrumentation and vocals. I am not sure if the female voice is intended to be the lead voice or if this is intended to be more of a group sound. A wee bit of tweeking (EQ'ing and or panning) on this might help. Anyway, good start, great song, and I look forward to hearing the final product. Cheers
  22. Ahhhh, music for my soul!! Good stuff pal! I luv those background sounds.
  23. Hi Phillip. John Lee Hooker is indeed Chicago Blues by way of the Delta and Detroit. However, the C. Blues are very eclectic including such artists as Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, etc. Again, great work on this Delta style song.
  24. Thanks Tom! He was a man admired by many for his morality, kindness, and compassion. The Elwin Wilson story was one that stuck with me for a long time. Both brave men for choosing to do the correct action. Hi Joad. Thanks for listening and your comments. One last time indeed. The last time sure was different from the first time. Thank you tom. I appreciate your comments. We have indeed lost a great one! Hi Bjorn. Thanks very much for your kind comments. I wish this story had gotten out more. Being raised as a Christian the behaviour of these two men to me personifies the teachings found in the New Testament (kindness, caring, compassion and love). Hi Doug. It is hard to get consensus in Congress but when both parties have complements for this man --- well, he must have been doing something right. Thanks very much for listening and you kind comments.
  25. I enjoyed this very much. Well done. You certainly have captured the sound of the Delta Blues and the southern Chitlin' Circuit sounds. I have been listening to the other Mississippi guy recently. Mississippi Fred McDowell. He is kind of a transition from the early Delta Blues (acoustic) to the Chicago Blues (electric). I love it all!
