  1. I love the way you rearrange traditional songs for the guitar. You make them sound like they were written for you! This is a terrific song, and I only wish you turned the guitar up a db or two. Let it shine!
  2. Thanks David! I appreciate your words and sentiment very much. Wow, I'm glad that worked for you. It was a lot of fun to do the vocals because I didn't have to "doctor" them up because they were in my range. I'm gonna have to try that technique again... Makke, I'm always glad to hear from you! It sure is fun to play a Strat, isn't it? Thank you for your time and kind words.
  3. Holy cow! First, thanks for your kind words, and welcome to the forum! Now, let me say something about this terrific video you've posted. I've never heard anything quite like this (at least, recently), and it's capable of being one of the freshest sounds going with a little different approach to the mix. I like almost every part of this song, from the arrangement to the vocals and lyrics. You have a very nice choice of instruments that are well balanced and played. Where I get lost is in the chorus (You can be my Sally) because the kick drum(?) builds up in that section and becomes a bit muddled, It may be due to delay or reverb, but it seemingly throws the timing off a bit, and if it's caused by a delay f/x then it might be synced better. Anyway, this is pretty good now, but this can be stellar, and I thank you for introducing it! You should post this on its own so that all can hear your talent and welcome you here. The song just fits these times so well.
  4. Steve, you have a way of making these songs fresh! You capture the feel of the original and give it your own twist. Carry on!!!
  5. I kind of agree that this could use a little punch in the drums as I'm listening a low volume, but it's a toss-up. All in all, a hard hitting production with highly professional performances on guitar and vocals. I really like your sound!
  6. I found that I couldn't share CbB with Soundforge until I went into preferences>audio>playback and recording>and checked the "suspend audio engine when Cakewak is not the focus" button. After that, I could use any audio program.
  7. Thank you Joad! Sometimes I put the lead on the right, too Thanks for the kind words about my vocals. Thanks, Nigel! I just can't seem to pin that guitar player down, but glad you like the song. Just keep coming up with your own great songs.
  8. A song as good as this deserves the best treatment you can give it, and you've made this much better! The only thing that stands out to me is the drums, and I think they just need some attention to dynamics so as not to sound too static. Sometimes it's just a matter of reducing the volume on certain hits, or varying the volume a tad, like on the snare. However, this is a good song, with a very good vocal, and it sort of sells itself and puts you in the spotlight.
  9. Wow! I would like to have produced this myself.😞 The fusion of styles and moden production techniques are crafty and spell binding at the same time. There is much depth in this piece, and you can't eat just one of them. Bass is outstanding!
  10. You do have good ears - I was using Izotope's imager software to widen the stereo field (as I do on most of my songs). I'll keep this in the back of my mind in the future. Thanks to your furry ears once again.
  11. This is the kind of song that could be interpreted in many ways, much like some of the Rolling Stones early ballads. To me, the vintage vibe is strong and convincing. It sounds like the backup vox is strong on character but a little light on clarity. Yet, it all works to create a color, or flavor that is pleasing! Nice work, Steve!
  12. Yes, of course you're right about the fact that they had limited tracks. I did remix this song and pushed the guitar to 50%L and the piano to 50%R to pull the parts together, I hope. Do you think it's still too wide? I don't mind playing with this mix. Thanks for your time!
  13. This is terrific! I had to go to Youtube to hear the original after hearing your version, and I'm very impressed how closely you came to the original. A+
  14. Paul, thanks for the kind words and your time! I'm like a box of Crackerjacks in that way
  15. Steve, it's good to hear your haunting voice and great lyrics! I absolutely love this song and will be listening to it some more. Sometimes your voice reminds me of Paul Simon, and this is one of those times. Wow!
  16. Your songs and mixes are some of the very best I've heard in a while. It's as if the Jefferson Airplane landed in the 21st century, but better! Keep inspiring us!
  17. Michael, your production has steadily gotten beefier over the years, which complements your style of writing. I don't know about the kick (sounds good here), but I agree that the ending could use some love. All in all, a good, solid rock song regardless of genre.
  18. Tom, I appreciate your comments and time. I did remix this just now, and I put the guitar at 50% L and the piano at 50% R to give each channel some balance of energy. I also turned the vocal compressor down for a bit more clarity (I hope). I find all the comments helpful, especially because my ears aren't as sharp as they used to be.
  19. Hi Tom, thanks for replying! I just began wondering about the vocal compression, too. I think I need to turn down the compressor a bit, and maybe the bass and piano, too. Bjorn, thanks for your kind words! Back story: I have some millennial friends that are suffering in isolation, and this song arose from their difficulties in coping with being in lockdown. Much to write about these days.
  20. Freddy, thanks a million! Your words mean a lot to me and are very welcome. Of course, I'll be going back and forth, listening to this every which way, but I'm glad you understand.
  21. Mark, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment! I love your work. Mahavishnu, I remember hearing an orchestra by that name in the 70's. After hearing your stellar work, I'm pleased to hear your comment. I guess I just like to take advantage of stereo like they did in the day when it was new. I'm always looking for a cure
  22. Thank you, Douglas! You're not alone about the guitar panning. Thanks, Wookie! There seems to be a consensus about the guitar panning. It's not so unusual if you've heard "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream
  23. Hi Michael, it's good to hear from you. Thanks for your kind response, especially about the lyrics! I know what you mean about the guitar solos being off to the side, but I was looking for separation from the keyboards, so there they are. It's not set in stone so thanks for your observation, who knows where it will end up.
  24. Hello to all my friends! Hope you're all staying healthy and putting your time to good use. Here's my latest opus on the Coronavirus, done with the help of my good friend Roger Fife on bass. It's still very new, so I'm open to all suggestions. As always, thanks for your help and observations. It can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8d34x Remixed 6/12/20: Moved guitar from 70L to 50L, and moved piano from 30R to 50R. I also lowered the volume on the bass a bit.
  25. Bravo, that was a quick learn. You did an excellent job on the mix and created something that I'll listen to again. Keep posting!
