Loved the song, wound up listening to a bunch of your stuff. Such great tunes!

An aptly named song, and a pretty damned good one! I always enjoy trying to suss out all the things you have going on in your songs and all the sounds you use. Well done!
-
I like this quite a bit, sweet and sentimental lyrics with great playing in a perfect mix. Vocal are ready nice with great harmonies. Love the strings!

Nice work, mix is lovely!

Hey, Keith, thanks for listening and for your crits!. I agree on the drum fills. I was going for a sax-like vibe. My ears don't pick up the harshness, is it in places or is it part of the tone? And while I'm at it I'm not too happy with ithe bass tone either. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for your comments, Mark. Things do come apart as we age and we have to pick our battles. I love all your stuff, btw.

Thanks, Gary, I appreciate your comments. I was thinking that I used too much reverb as well.

Update: I took the great advice offered here and posted a new mix. I worked a bit on the lead guitar tone and tamed the drum buss some. I also tweaked the bass tones quite a bit and tamed the reverb somewhat. The link below points to the new mix. -- Well, folks, it's been a rough year with not much room or inclination for music. I've finally decided that good times or bad, music is essential so I got to work and wrote this. My hearing has degraded a bit more, so I'm quite dependent on the folks here to help me get the sounds right, so thank you in advance for any feedback you can provide. And here it is, Flying Away. Thanks! https://www.reverbnation.com/kevinibsen/song/34934345-flying-away flying away k. walsh 4/13/2025 verse 1 breakin down seems like forever and when the day came round she kicked the door down that stood in her way holding on waiting forever and when the ring came her way she grabbed that thing with both hands and she held on chorus she had a name and it rang like silver and she would always smile when she promised me that she would be gone she was ashamed tears flow like a river of pain and she would always cry while the world was coming down around her yeah she would be flying away flying away verse 2 running down i be lost forever and when i finally broke down and she took my hand like the queen of the world that she was for such a long time she thought she could see forever and when she finally called me i gave her every single thing in the world that i had to give she had a name and it rang like silver and she would always smile when she promised me that she would be gone she was ashamed tears flow like a river of pain and she would always cry while the world was coming down around her yeah she would be flying away flying away

My voice has't completely gone, it's raspy and sounds like I have a severe case of laryngitis. The classic old man gravelly hoarse thing. At least I can still order a coffee! And because I have something like a voice there's hope. Thanks for the encouragement!

I don't care if you made it with your grandpappy's old saw, it kicks major *****. Got to say though, that's a very nice looking guitar!
-
Another badass Bats Brew rocker! I love the guitar work (but I always do) and the killer vocals over those riffs. A real winner, hope you sell a crap-ton of downloads!
-
I love all the fresh ideas you come up with, you never seem to miss. This is just great, and it sounds awesome. Congrats to you and Gary!
-
Well done, enjoyed the guitar work, great tones, and love the chord choices! The song kept me interested and you did a good job on the vocals. I feel your pain, I had COVID and lost voice too. Not sure if it will ever come back, but one hopes.
-
Very good song, wish I'd written it! I concur with the psychedelic comment, very much an early Pink Floyd vibe. A nice tribute, Jesse, very sorry for your loss.

Sounds suspiciously like a goodbye speech. 😦
-
Pretty smashing rendition, Steve!
-
Absolutely killed it. Lovely horns and groove, but I'm amazed at the midi guitar. Excellent.
-
Thanks! I didn't really mean to write a country song, so give me a pass on that one.
-
Thank you, jack, appreciate you coming back to give it another go!
-
I hope I've fixed things a bit, thanks, Nigel.
-
Thank you, Steve. I've posted an updated mix, and there will likely be one more.

It's been a while since I've been in the C++ game so correct me if I'm out of touch on this but it's not always a good ideal to uninstall all of the C++ redistributable packages from your computer. These components contain library code that many programs share. Some versions are used and installed by Windows itself. Microsoft issues fixes and security updates for them too. While you may fix one program's operation, you may well end up breaking any number of others. One safer option is to try to repair an install rather than simply uninstalling it. You can do this by right-clicking on the package in the Programs and Features Control Panel and selecting Change->Repair. As always, your mileage may vary, caveat emptor and so on.

Love me some Lyle Lovett, and you nailed his vibe. No problem with energy here! Vocals are first rate, mark. Beautiful mix and a lovely, dynamic touch on the guitar. Perfect.
