  1. I consider used everything... 🙂 The trick is to make sure you check it out first. See if you can plug it in and hear it work before exchanging money. The most likely problem with them would be dirty pots which you can fix with some Deoxit. Used gear sounds better. 🙂 The biggest problem I've had with used gear is that when it doesn't sound like I think it should, I can't be sure if it's me or the gear (always me. 🙂 )
  2. While I've loved listening to tons of music, my largest influencers have been my teachers. I had a drum teacher in 4th grade who taught me to read time in sheet music which has proved very handy over the years... He was a teacher at Virginia Commonwealth University but I no longer know his name. I had choir directors and a bass teacher in grade school. I had a great guitar teacher, Ed Rudman, in Boulder Colorado for around 4 years who started me on Real Book tunes in 1993. Lots of friends along the way urged me to learn one song or another. 2 ArtistWorks teachers (Dave Stryker and Andreas Oberg) have helped me stretch in new directions. Watching live music like Yonder Mountain String Band or Dave Matthews Band or the Grateful Dead also had a big impact on me.
  3. Cool you went in. Cool they picked up your gear. Bummer about the changes.
  4. I should add that i physically loop back the spidf with a coax cable.
  5. I learned the W hot key in totalmix and it really helps. Flipping between routing scenes is nice. Sometimes i use the side chain on a compressor and forget to turn it off when i don't want it. So now when i flip to the totalmix settings without the side chain, i just send the same signal to the compressor as the side chain so it doesn't matter if i forget the button on the compressor. Confusing but someone will get it. I love my gear. Some day, i will get a UFX. My ucx fairly rocks. I love looping back the spidf so i have an always on digital loop. I can rout to any audio input like skype or zoom. I can share audio from my pc while sharing my screen so i can mix real time with someone not in my space.
  6. I have one mic for people who brush their teeth and another one for the rest of you guys.
  7. I use like the same mics all through covid. Mostly, they all stay locked away. Covid is such a sad time to have a nice Mic collection. That said, my two favs see daily use and I have had time to play with settings and positions and etc that I don't normally bother noticing. It's kinda like back in the day when I only had 2 mics. 🙂
  8. You might try getting the clip you want. By this I mean, bounce to tracks and export the wave you want. Then start a new project pull in the video and the wave. Solo the wave you want and export it as video choosing the codecs. Don't track fade or anything.
  9. You are right, of course. I suppose the spinning mouse wheel could impact the last touched parameter in an effect? It was a wag. Good luck!
  10. Looks really nice. Congrats on your project!!
  11. Did you finish your kitchen by xmas?
  12. ok... you know you have to select the range you are exporting and make sure the tracks you want to export aren't muted? I hate to ask the obvious, but just in case...
  13. I do this. When you do File > Export > Video, select Encoding Options >> Honestly I usually use WMV and WMAudioV9 Codec. Select sample rate/bit depth channel count. Match the bit depth in the Audio Mixdown options. (Dither if you want). Save it. Depending on your Codecs, you will have different options. If you don't buy any software, the codecs included with Windows are limited. For free video trimming and mirroring, stuff like that, I use Microsoft Movie Maker which is also free. OBS and Open Shot Video Editor are other free tools for the purpose of editing videos.
  14. Don't take this personally but probably pibcak. Your troubleshooting technique is correct and should regularly lead you to the problem. The only thing i can think of is a mouse wheel spin that you think just didn't do anything bc it didn't do what you were intending it to... Perhaps it spun a knob or adjusted a filter. Stray keyboard and mouse stuff is the most common cause of 'bugs'. People mean to hit w for return to zero but hit something else, for example. You don't notice a visual impact, but now it sounds bad.
  15. I may suck at Amp Sims, but For the last few years, unless I have to be quiet at home b/c someone is sleeping, I'm plugged into my amp, not the daw. I will say that the addition of a Rivera Rock Crusher really makes playing the amp in a small house much more fun. I like to hear the sound with my body. I even changed out the light jewel for a white one from red for no other reason than a friend gave it to me. And who knew?? it sounds better now. 😛 And this is off topic (oh no!) but what's with guitar pedals with super blinding lights on them (I'm looking at you earthquaker). I can't stand pedals with bright lights. They sound terrible.
  16. My 7 year old nephew assembled his first computer this Xmas with Jim's help. Thanks Jim!! It's not that hard if you follow the directions and watch some youtube vids.
  17. I have an rme ucx. It has been sufficient for me, but I've wondered about a ufx over the years. I can record 24 tracks at a time sync'd to my tascam 2488. I can record 16 tracks at 48khz without the tascam. It's a lot of fun and definitely pans channels. Digicheck is a cool bit of software that comes with it.
  18. To me it is transient. I can remember brothers in arms doing it, but it isn't reliable. I'm a shifting target. Sometimes the notes hit home. Jerry Garcia Band can do it at the right moments - forever young. Bob Dylan singing about it being bad out there on the love and theft album. The right Miles moment. Blue Trane. Naima. Love supreme. Work song by almost anyone. So many Nina Simone moments, but Mississippi GD almost always. How about some brother Jack mcduff?
  19. You are probably way on top of this. I just noticed I had gone 3/4 of a year without a backup. It happens. 🙂 It's Covid. I'm not doing anything all that interesting anyway.
  20. Happy Happy!!! I drove meals on wheels yesterday and got a call this morning saying I was exposed to covid, so I guess I'll have to cancel my gig at the Kennedy Center. Quarantinewhile!
  21. The key is wrong, but it gets the idea across. Then the singer can just sing along with the video and make their own recording to send back to you.

    The Lord's Prayer

Enjoyed it, Starise. Thanks for posting it.
  23. Did you bump up your audio buffer? I often max out the sample buffer when mixing to take the pressure off. Some plugins get funny if you push the buffer limits. Way back when, making the sonitus verb super fast was a thing. Not sure if it will fix it, but i never had a problem with that verb when i used it and i mix with a high buffer.
