  1. https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-599-SE-Headphone/dp/B07RFNZYJZ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=SENNHEISER+599&psr=PDAY&qid=1563252374&s=prime-day&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=1-1 For about the next 12 hours, Sennheiser HD 599 at half price. Reg $199 for $99. Amazon Prime sale. Couldn't pass them up at that price!
  2. I’ve been watching lots of YouTube vids comparing headphones. This is one of the best I’ve come across. Compares AKG 702, Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO and Sennheiser HD 58X. Definitely worth a watch/listen.
  3. Thanks. I should mention I do have Sonarworks headphone reference calibration plugin for whatever I buy. However, the 702's look really interesting and just a touch more expensive. The DT880's only come in 250 and 600 ohm, which doesn't seem to be a good match for my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4? The DT 990 and the AGK 702 are 80 and 62 ohm, respectively. Opinions on this thread in response to my post seem to vary widely; it seems to come down to defining what "drive" means relative to sound quality given the source that's "driving" the cans.
  4. Haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet but am zeroing in on beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO Open-Back, (80 Ohm). Anyone have any experience with these?
  5. I’m getting email notifications consistently now of threads I either started or those I follow. A huge thanks to Jesse and anyone else who helped fix this issue that’s been around since cbb took over. It really helps to stay engaged.
  6. +1 KRKs. I have the Rokit 6s and they work/sound great for my set up. Hard to go wrong with JBL as well.
  7. Wow. That’s insane. Polar opposite. WTH???
  8. Yes I saw this. Definitely looking at the 599 now as well. Thanks much!
  9. Just visiting the forum and saw this. I did not receive an email.
  10. Hey! I received this email! I clicked "go to this post" in the email I received, and it brought me here. Yay!
  11. Then, there’s always this recommendation, apparently an industry rule of thumb when matching headphone impedance to the output-source impedance: ”...we recommend following the rule of thumb, known in the audio industry as the 1/8th rule - the output impedance of the audio source headphones are connected to must be 1/8th or less than the input impedance of the connected headphones. For example, if you have headphones with 32 Ohm input impedance (e.g. default in-ears coming with Samsung Galaxy 8, BOSE QC35 in passive, wired mode), the output impedance of the audio source should be 4 Ohms or less (1/8th of 32 is 4). The above is from Sonarworks: https://sonarworks.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010041394-Does-the-impedance-of-my-headphones-and-amplifier-matter-
  12. Thanks everyone for weighing in with experiences, thoughts and insights. I found solid guidance as well on the Focusrite site, since I have a 2i4 interface. Specifically, by interface line, they report: As a general rule, higher impedance headphones require more power from the headphone output of your interface than lower impedance headphones. If unsure of what to purchase follow these general guidelines, though you may find that our products can actually drive higher impedance headphones than the values listed below without issue: - For all Bus Powered Scarlett interfaces (Solo, 2i2 and 2i4), iTrack Solo and Saffire 6 USB look for headphones with a maximum impedance of 200 ohms. - For all mains powered Scarlett interfaces (6i6, 8i6, 18i6, 18i8 and 18i20) look for headphones with a maximum impedance of 250 ohms. - For all Clarett (USB and Thunderbolt variants) and Red (Thunderbolt) interfaces, headphones with impedances of up to 600 ohms will be fine. https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/210708269-What-impedance-headphones-should-I-use-with-my-audio-interface- Always something to learn... Billy
  13. Wow. This is really interesting. I’m in the US and had never heard of this site.
  14. Dude, you’re killing me! LOL! I may have to be cans rich and beer poor! HaHa!
  15. Some good things to think about here. In researching, I noticed on some headphones I’m considering the ohm rating. I don’t use a headphone amp, I’m coming straight out of a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4. From what I’ve read, the higher the ohms rating the more power it takes to drive headphones Will my set up efficiently drive a pair of headphones rated at 250 Ohms? Or should I look for a lower rating?
  16. Thank you, Bob. I've been lookingt a number of "best of..." rankings in my budget range and will continue to gather info. Those are super links!
  17. I'm in the market for a new headphones to use as part of my mixing workflow (in combination with monitor listening in a non-treated bedroom/music room). My budget is $200-250 list (which usually means you can find them for something like $150-$200). Anyway, I'd spend $200. I wouldn't use these for tracking, just mixing. I'm looking at both closed- and open-back for this purpose. RIght now, AKG, Sennheiser and Beyerdynamics come up a lot in my price range and intended use. I want something flat/transparent, not artificially boosted in any frequency ranges. To put it mildly, opinions vary widely out on the web for brand and open vs closed back (and probably will here!), but y'all are my peeps, so I'd like to hear from you if you have experience using a headphone for mixing (not tracking) in the price range I'm looking at. Thanks! Billy
  18. Thanks all for weighing in! This gets the job done for my purposes! I never realized you could hide tracks in console view. I thought it was only in track view. Just hiding the multi-track drums clears up a lot of screen real estate... Thanks, Craig!
  19. I’ve got all my notifications set as explained in this thread but haven’t gotten any emails on anything. I usually just check back in when I can and see if there’s anything new.
  20. Yes, thanks. Even narrowed, as track counts climb, there’s lots of horizontal scrolling. Ugh.
  21. Haven’t gotten theses emails like we did back in Sonar days since CbB took over.
  22. I know this has been discussed before, but I can’t seem to find the thread. I believe someone had a workaround of sorts. In track view, it’s possible to organize things into collapsible folders to conserve the screen real estate. It’s a beautiful thing! I have a project approaching 40 tracks, 18 of which are multi-out drums. Nearly half of the project. It would be great to collapse those in console view so I don’t have to scroll horizontally all the time to work on things. It’s a PITA. It seems to me that this would be a great feature: have the state of the console view follow that of the track view. So, if in the track view a group is collapsed in a folder, that would be the same state in the console view, and vice versa. Meanwhile, does anyone have a strategy to essentially being able to collapse tracks in console view into a type of folder, like we can do in track view? Thanks for any ideas!
  23. I was experiencing drop-outs as well. And did exactly as Bob references here. Cakewalk guru Craig Anderton said even as high as 2500. That’s what I went with and haven’t had a problem since.
  24. Hi Bob and Reid. I’m the OP following your exchange here because I’m new to Kontakt and want to be able to do exactly the stuff you’re talking about. This forum has always been so great and generous with information. At first glance, getting the most out of Kontakt can seem overwhelming. Following conversations like this help tremendously. Thanks. Billy.
