  1. Must be a Thursday night ;) I've played Thursday nights when all the guests came dressed as tables and chairs!
  2. Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To) - Diana Ross https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DnxTvqOe-I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOH6SzDX3l4 Take your pick, I couldn't get either one to embed Berry Gordy left Detroit and went to LA to try his hand at movie making, this was his second attempt. When the band I was in was being courted by Motown (in Detroit) I met him but thought his name was Barry instead of Berry.
  3. Behind The Rain - Gato Barbieri (I listen to many different kinds of music - Gato was a unique sax player who eventually quit recording because after he got popular, the record companies wanted to dictate what he would play)
  4. Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - Crosby, Stills and Nash Superb harmonies on a nice tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMJug2iz3NA
  5. Tangled Up In Blue - Bob Dylan Generally I don't like Dylan's singing, but I like this song and the way he does it
  6. "Blue Rondo A La Turk - Dave Brubeck Quarted The first 9/8 jazz song I ever heard and IMHO one of the Dave Brubeck Quartet's best songs (Paul Desmond is my all-time favorite alto sax player)
  7. Well if they take you away in a straitjacket, you must by like Naploeon XIV in "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" It seems it's an early form of Rap music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXOwNOf2QXY For some reason I can't get the above video to embed here. I'll try another link. ... Ah this one works!! (not that this song is worth the effort)
  8. Corner Pocket - Count Basie Orchestra (Of that era, Basie was one of my favorites) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBuYSVrFBLA
  9. Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) - Joe Tex
  10. My wife plays guitar too. If I go first they will be in good hands. Bob
  11. Alexander Nevsky, Op. 78: VI. Field of the Dead - Sergei Prokofiev
  12. "I Can Beat Your Drum" - Fever Tree https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C71G1atPWzY (An obscure hit from the psychedelic era of rock music) PS I haven't figured out how to post a youtube so I posted the link
  13. "White Rabbit" - Jefferson Airplane lyrics: ...go ask Alice...
  14. "Physical" - Olivia Newton-John lyrics: ...Let me hear your body talk...
  15. We've gotten into some real fine poetry here. Silver Convention again (what verbose poets these are) Fly, robin fly Fly, robin fly Fly, robin fly Up, up to the sky Fly, robin fly Fly, robin fly Fly, robin fly Up, up to the sky Fly
  16. I remember during the Disco years (1970s) Johnny Carson dressed up as a preacher in front of a pulpit, opened a big bible-looking book and with a serious face and tone of voice and at a slow, deliberate pace read the lyrics to the Silver Convention song, "Get Up And Boogie" (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie Boogie, boogie (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie (That's right) Boogie, boogie (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie Boogie, boogie (That's right) Get up and boogie, get up and boogie Get up and boogie, get up and boogie Get up and boogie, get up and boogie Get up and boogie, get up and boogie I'd say "They just don't write them like that anymore" but Craigb just proved otherwise :D Whenever I try to write a song, I'm always unhappy with the lyrics. Perhaps I set my standards too high. Insights and incites by Notes
  17. OUCH ---- How did I miss that????????????? OK, it was a nice groaner (I love groaners) and now I can wipe the tire tracks off my forehead. I'm ready for more, bring 'em on!!! Notes
  18. Thanks to TV, it's now more important what the star looks like than the music. The first MTV video was The Buggles, "Video Killed The Radio Star" and that was true. Now when I see auto-tune kings and queens doing soft-core porn with little if any musical content, it saddens me. I've nothing against soft-core porn if the music is there, but not as a substitute for the music itself. OK, I'm showing my age (as if my avatar doesn't). But I'm a musician, and all parts of the music, melody, harmony and rhythm are important to me. And the nuances in those three are what turn empty notes into music. Listening to some of the one-chord songs with rap instead of melody or auto-tune vocals just doesn't do it for me. It makes the Starship song sound like a symphony. Not that there isn't any good new music, there is some out there, but the majority of the pop music is currently at a low level for actual musical content. Insights, incites and a minor rant by Notes ;)
