Correct me, if I'm wrong, but 10, 15 years ago. wasn't the arpeggio-automation stuff ingetrated in here?

I'm not sure - can't remember. But this could be a good place for arp-automation

Arpeggiator parameters are still selectable in the automation lanes of midi tracks but not instrument tracks. They seem to be working as expected on my system however it is something I rarely use. YMMV.

  2. The most simple answer is flexibility.

    1. Yes you can ignore the synth rack altogether.

For a long time the only way to insert an instrument into a project was to put it in the FX rack of an audio track. Some people still prefer to do it that way. However the Synth Rack allows you to insert an instrument with multiple input (midi) tracks and/or multiple output (audio) tracks. If you wish to do so you can insert an instrument without creating any tracks at all.

Once an instrument is loaded into the rack the output of any midi track can be routed to it and the input of any audio track can be routed to it. So...

    2. Theoretically an instrument can have any number of tracks associated with it.  Typically you will want an audio track for each output and a midi track for each voice you want to control. Tracks may contain data you would not want to delete when deleting a synth.

    3. An instrument track can be created by selecting a single midi track and the single audio track whose input is routed to the desired instrument. Right click one of the two tracks. "Make Instrument Track" is one of the options.

    4. There is a drop down arrow to the right of the Synth Rack label. The replace synth option is in that drop down.

This is just scratching the surface of a very deep subject.

  3. Today I've been recording a bass guitar through adjacent mono inputs (1+2, 3+4,  etc.)  to two mono tracks. I can't duplicate the OP's problem. However this...

it's only when the two mono tracks are recognised by CbB as elements of a stereo pair.

confuses me. I have an Orion 32+. CbB displays all of it's inputs as Left, Right or Stereo just as OP described here.

In CbB the first to channels of my interface may be addressed as:

    • input 1 left mono
    • input 1 right mono
    • input 1 stereo

There is not another setting as far as I know.  Select a stereo input to record to record a stereo track. Select a mono input to record a mono track.  That's it.

I wish I could be more helpful but I have no idea why you are getting that distortion. All I can do is confirm that it works properly for me.

  4. I have to pile on here. I've been trying to get used to the new way but I just can't. I always zoom with the Cntrl + Arrow keys and the new way just doesn't work for me.

I am curious why it was changed. I don't recall anyone requesting it.

If Drum Map is chosen, I can double click on the PRV note to rename it to whatever sound is triggered (IE: Kick out, Kick in, snare top, so forth)

Right Click the note name and choose  "Map Properties" to rename or remap the individual note.

Your first item is determined by the track output. So it is already there.

Your third point is a long standing feature request that would please almost everyone who uses CbB.

Drum Maps are not the most intuitive feature of Cakewalk. But once you have a basic map created it is easy to modify from the above mentioned "Map Properties" dialogue.

Why do the version files created by Cakewalk itself cause confusion for Cakewalk's  CAF tool?

Because the version files reference the old audio you are looking to remove with the CAF.  Delete the version files and then run the CAF.

FWIW Craig Anderton had a tip on the old forum about using the "Consolidate Project Audio" utility for this purpose.  Run the utility. It will create a "Backup" file inside the audio folder. In Windows Explorer move the "Backup" file up a level to the "Project" folder. Then rename the "Audio" folder (I usually name it "Delete"). Then rename the "Backup" folder to "Audio".  Then you should run the project to verify it works properly before deleting the old folder.

I just can't get my mind using a trackball to edit audio which I do a ton of, I just don't think I would like one at all though I've never used one that I recall.

Just imagine never having to pick up the mouse and move it over because you've run off the pad.

I'm getting the same as OP.  I assign the output of any stereo track or bus to a new patch point.. Then I create two mono tracks using the mono patch points as inputs. I get a mono sum at each of the two new tracks.

Further testing. The above is true for playback. If I record the tracks, they record the mono source.

Base 57, what make/model 43in tv do you have? I'm thinking of going that route. Do you have both track view and console view open? Thanks.

It's a Sharp TV. I don't know the model number (I would have to drag out the snake pit and get behind it to find that).  I've been using it for about 3 years and I would not go back. I had been using a dual monitor setup and when I first got the TV I used all three. It didn't take a week to realize that everything I wanted to see would fit on the one screen. So I gave away one of the 27's and added the other to the dinosaur exhibit in my garage.

I can open both Track View and Console View but usually don't.  I typically open the GUI for my Orion 32+ at the top of the screen and then open CbB over the bottom 2/3 of the screen. So I have an I/O meter bridge above Cakewalk.

Credit where it is due. My wife bought it for me. She came home with it and a 60 inch for the family room. Together they were under $900. I love her.

  10. Clip pan will not override track pan in a mono track. And if there is a mono effect in the FX bin that will also override the clip pan.

Any clip modifier (pan, gain, FX etc.) applies before the channel strip for the track.

there's no keystroke to show and hide the Inspector so you have to use the menu command.

The "i" key opens and closes the inspector. And also there are modifiers. "Cntrl-I" toggles the Pro Channel, "Shift-I" toggles clip properties and "Cntrl-Shift-I" toggles Track Properties.

It is, however, a bit of a mystery where the notes are being moved to exactly. I just get randomly flickers rectangles that seem to want to indicate where the notes will be placed, but they disappear in the blink of an eye!

    This.

And it is VERY unintuitive to use the Select tool to move notes regardless of what is written in the (2184 page) user guide. This should work with the Move Tool and the Smart Tool.

  13. I will pile on here. I can also confirm that this is broken. Move tool only works on one selected note in the Staff View. I have been avoiding SV for a while so I don't know how long it's been broken but my workaround would be PRV.  For those uncomfortable with PRV some workaround options within SV are Slide, Transpose or Cut and Paste.

    Maybe control groups ?

[Edit] - actually, no, they won't work with VST's or FX Chains.

The controls in the Pro Channel EQ can be grouped. The PC4K and PC76 Pro Channel compressors  can also be grouped.
