A couple of days ago I reinstalled Windows and installed Windows 10 Pro build 19044.1618 for the first time. It was only tonight that I had time to install and try out Cakewalk, and I immediately discovered a small bug: the CPU meter options does not switch. I usually put the option "Overall App Performance" there, but now none of the options are toggled, only the first option remains selected by default. The system is absolutely clean, about 10 plug-ins are installed, all the latest system drivers, all Runtimes and C ++ are installed, what could be the reason?

Try setting your Workspace to None (this defaults to Basic on a new install).

Not a showstopper, more of an FYI, but the latest update has crashed to the desktop multiple times when opening a project, yet is just fine after restarting and opening the same project. Only happens the one time per session, totally fine after that. Ya, some plugin issue, but the only changes I can confirm on these projects is trying out a couple of new ones with active iLok or other authorization. fwiw, not been able to duplicate in another DAW with the same plugins.

Please get us a dump file. You might need to change/add the ExceptionHandlingSeverity value in the Initialization File section of the Preferences to 7 to catch the dump if you're not getting one generated already (this defaults to 1).

This problem appears to be similar to the Feb 20th topic: Waves CR8 Sampler.

Using CW 2022.02.  I've installed correctly, it would appear, the new plugin noise reduction plugin from Waves... Clarity Vx, but using the CW Plugin Scan, I was not seeing the Clarity Vx plugin loadingI get the Cakewalk VST Scan box crash with the message "Cakewalk VST Scan has stopped working correctly. Windows will close the program...". The Scanner stopped at the file "Clarity Vx MONO" which would be the plugin I'm looking to load in. This is a Vst3 plugin and is in the Waves v13 series. It's a 64bit plugin, and Waves loads these plugins into the Program Files (x86) folder. I've tried reloading using the Waves Central installer twice and even ordered a demo of another v13 product, whic loaded in CW successfully as part of the same install instance. I've done some troubleshooting and have filed a support ticket with Waves this weekend, so will update once I get a reply.

In the "Waves CR8 Sampler" thread  from Feb 20 2002, several suggestions were made about other Vst3 files that CW had issues loading via the Plugin Scanner. Although I will wait a response from Waves before doing some of the suggested  options which involve moving and deleting Waves files with users having mixed results, I'm posting this as an alert in case there is a problem with the Cakewalk  Plugin Scanner/Loader which was suggested in that previous thread might be an issue since several other non-Waves products also encountered difficulties loading Vst3 plugins.

I'm able to load Clarity Vx without a problem. It's possible there might be something with your local Waves install that might need to be addressed, but in general there doesn't appear to be any issues with it on our end.

Just to mention that naming each consecutive update the same (Update 1) is confusing as I think I already have it. Maybe Update 1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.?

Releases are named "Update 1" when they're an addendum to the existing update. The release from yesterday addresses a handful of issues reported in relation to the initial 2022.02 Update as opposed to a larger update numbered with a different month.

Can anyone confirm if there's a panning issue? It sounds as if there's not good spacing between the L&R channels. Its like almost as if they bleed into one another. This is with any form of dry audio and Vsti both mono and stereo.

The simple way to check if you're hearing your system properly is to just throw a mono sine wave on a track, then hard pan it both ways, see what CbB's metering says, then see what's happening with your monitoring setup. If CbB shows it's hard panned and you're not hearing that, the most likely scenario is that there's a software mixer/driver panel that's not fully spreading your stereo image after the fact.

Here's one that's raised it's head once again, but this time I've discovered a major detail...

I had reported earlier about clips disappearing in Lanes when muted (not parent track). I've now discovered that it's only active Melodyne tracks.

    Display Lanes

    Turn clip into Melodyne

    Mute clip

    Clip disappears from the Lane!

    Melodyne 4.xxxx

I can repro this one Keni, we'll look at it for the next update. Thanks!

I just watched the Creative Sauce video on gain staging. I hate to be dense ( I'm an amateur) but if I use the input/gain knob to adjust levels, when do I use the faders? Adjusting the final mix? Thanks!

The track Gain control is your signal level before FX and the fader is after FX.

The Cakewalk audio to midi conversion feature actually uses Melodyne's pitch detecting feature to do it, after the Melodyne trial in Cakewalk ends u cant use it directly as a region fx anymore but it still works underneath the surface with Cakewalk to allow audio to midi conversion. So, u need to have Melodyne installed on ur system for that feature to work.
Also, something else i noticed is that from Melodyne v5 onwards it doesnt allow audio to midi conversion in Cakewalk after the trial period ends, u need to buy any version of Melodyne to make that feature work in Cakewalk again, till v4 i dont think it used to be like that. So, if u uninstalled v4 from ur system after v5 got released u cant get that Cakewalk feature back without buying a copy of Melodyne, coz even the Cakewalk installer now installs v5 trial of Melodyne. Luckily i managed to grab hold of a Melodyne 4 trial installer from the internet and installed that instead of the v5 trial and now my Cakewalk's audio to midi conversion feature is back and working ☺️. Someone correct me here if i am wrong, it will be much appreciated 😄

This is correct. When we first implemented the feature in Cakewalk, the V4 trial would still allow the conversion to work under the hood without a full license. Version 5 does not allow this.

Feb 2022 update not playing nice with VST3 version of Predator 3. It was working prior to update. Project loads and then crashes Cakewalk completely. I've tested this on several projects and a template with Predator 3 in it.

    Event ID 1000

Faulting application name: Cakewalk.exe, version: 28.2.0.29
Faulting module name: Predator3.dll, version: 1.0.1.6
    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Faulting application path: D:\MusicApps\Cakewalk(BandLab)\Cakewalk Core\Cakewalk.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTplugins\Rob Papen\Predator3\Predator3.dll

If I rename the Steinberg folder so that the VST is not acessible Cakewalk then loads properly but it then is obviously unavailable to use. I updated Predator 3 itself but that made no difference.

Not checked if other users and other synths are having this problem so I don't know if its peculiar to RP's Predator 3, or its a general VST3 issue.

This is already fixed internally. We'll have an update for this release with this fix soon.

I still don't understand why the bakers didn't take out the "update" button from BL Assistant yet, since it's intentionally out of service, aiming Cakewalk to be updated exclusively by itself.

It's a different team that handles the development for BandLab Assistant as opposed to the Cakewalk app itself. The download page for Cakewalk now offers the Web Installer directly so a user would not need to have BandLab Assistant at all.

Hi, I have noticed that Cakewalk is taking a very long time to save a project! I wonder if this is an issue or something wrong!

Is every project save slow or a particular one you're working in? Try creating a new project with a few things in it and save that.

    Hi

    Thanks for responding.

So 1 st thing I use android version on my mobile device and 2 nd I updated the app 3 days ago and I didn't open the app after the update on the 1 st day I opened on next day.

From the 2nd day it started crashing and I couldn't progress any of my projects.

    Pls Assist.

I believe you've found yourself in the wrong place. This forum is dedicated to the Cakewalk by BandLab app for PC. If you're experiencing problems with the BandLab app for web/mobile, https://help.bandlab.com/ is where you need to go.

hi Jonathan, thanks, with 2021_02 (b29) reinstalled I've started a scan. It's definitely back to being very slow (sandbox off) If the log is useful I'll attach it when it finishes.

Thanks, when you send along the log we'll do some investigating.

hi, before I saw your last message I rolled back to 2021.12. I scanned with the settings as per screenshot (no project loaded)- sandbox off - it took longer than I remember in the normal case, but it completed in 5mins (~10x faster than what I was seeing) I have loaded my project up and it's doing the same.

Let me know I can replace 2022.02 - but I think I didn't usually have sandbox ticked (if it's not a default) IIRC I ticked it just out of curiosity.

The scan process runs independently from your project being loaded, so that shouldn't make any difference. If you could try the update again and see if it remains slower, we'll take a look into it. Thanks!

Basically my clip gain adjustments are being ignored when I do a mixdown of my buses, the video below demonstrates this issue. This happens also when I do a Control + A to select everything and exporting the audio (buses).

The clip gain does work if I were to do a real time bounce or if I were to do an "Entire Mix" bounce, but there's no way I'm going to do a real time bounce each time for hour long podcast edits...

If you can get us a project where it's readily reproducible, we'll take a look into it and see where the problem is. Thanks!

reinstalling the demo projects from "CakeWalk web installer" did not work.
please fix this in future updates because i dont understand why my DAW is in malfunction state after following through with basic steps during installation.

    #somethingelse

Can you elaborate on the problem? What demo projects are you looking for and where are you trying to find them? There are 2 currently shipping demo projects, "Sophia Jane - Living For Now" and "LORD - Time to Fly". The demo projects installer launched by the Cakewalk web installer places these into your existing Cakewalk Content folder, defaulting to C:\Cakewalk Content\Demo Projects

since 2022.02 VST scan exceedingly slow for some plugins- taking 2minutes per plugin - 45mins to load all of mine that used to take a minute or so (even tho I have a lot of them).

This has occurred on 2 machines I have BL Cakewalk installed on. I can remove folders then it scans quicker, but that doesn't solve the problem as I am missing plugins.

I have done a manual scan to grab the logfile. Prior to 2022.02 I had no problems.

If you turn off sandboxing for the plugin scan does it complete normally?

after reinstalling version 2022.02 i cant find the demo projects that were part of the cakewalk by bandlab daw for reverse engineering and demonstration of how the power usage of it sounds like. Why cant i find the default demo projects in the daw or in it "audio data" directory ?

and ive observed a very clean install of the daw. need further assistance with this.

    best regards - #SOMETHINGELSE

Demo projects install to C:\Cakewalk Content\Demo Projects by default, and should appear as a separate tab on the Start Page once installed. If you need to reinstall the demo projects, they're available from the Cakewalk Web Installer.

Something is eluding me. Never experienced this before and i can't seem to figure this out. The clips doesn't line up with the snap settings on the grid at the end of the clip. So when ever I duplicate the clip, its out of time with the the project tempo - either before or slightly late in time.

This is a setting on the Editing tab of the Preferences:

    image.png

Otherwise it will duplicate the exact clip length on purpose.

I have a default template setup with my usual starting point of instruments and tracks for projects.  Recently Cake has been crashing when trying to load Superior Drummer three during loading the Default template.  If I start up in safe mode and don't load SD3 I can then load any project that does have SD3 and it loads up fine.  But not from the template.  I've recreated the template and saved it as cwp file and can load that so I'm still able to have a workaround but even when I re-save the cwp as a template in the proper folder Cake still crashes on startup when it hits SD3.

Anyone else seeing this or can offer me a clue??

If it's crashing, can you please get us a dump file? Try adjusting ExceptionHandlingSeverity in the Initialization File if you're not getting a dump now. It might be a combination of things going on in your template as well. I can't reproduce your problem with Superior Drummer 3 alone.

After focusing the "Mains" in Console View, selecting or focusing tracks in Track View refuse to trigger/evoke the Inspector to display those tracks until a track name is double-clicked...

It seems like there's a focus issue when going through it in the exact steps mentioned. The track view strips aren't getting focused when clicked, thus the Inspector doesn't change from the Mains. Logged this to fix, thanks!
