@Jonathan Sasor, I think it was at the end of the update. All seems to be OK. Not sure if I should try applying it again, and I don’t think I saw the update file in my downloads folder.

It should be in a Cakewalk subfolder within the Downloads folder in Windows. It seems like it might have been a blip when the installer was just trying to launch the app, particularly if it was when you hit "Finish". If the app is displaying that you're on build 417, it's likely you're fine. That error shouldn't be related to anything actually updating for the app components. If there's any problems,  you might want to just make sure there's nothing unusual going on in Windows like a pending update or anything and then restart and try the installer again if necessary.

Tad confused, doesn't take much. I thought the last update, was the last updated for the free version of cakewalk had been and gone? What is this 2024.02 update? Is it for the free version to stop online activation and keep it offline ? Is this the actual last FREE update?

There won't be new feature development in CbB, but there will likely be an occasional maintenance update as needed.

Listen man, I know I sure as ***** am not going to be paying for a new version of Cakewalk if major bugs that have been in it since like Sonar X1 are still going to exist. Why does sidechaining still crash the audio engine with no dropout error over a decade later? Why does sending drum buses with FX still cause phase issues unless you toggle the FX off, start playback, and then enable them? These are fundamental and massive issues that have existed for over a decade now. I used to pay for this crap, I ain't paying for it again unless they fix it.

If you have specific issues, make a formal bug report and include relevant details on how to reproduce it.

A new graphic issue:  When opening a project saved in CbB, the Inspector bleeds thru from underneath MultiDock views.  O.o

Figured out what the repro is, it only happens when the dock is the full screen width rather than the default width. It's logged on our end. Thanks!

I installed it on my main DAW a started a new project to run it through some simple tasks using my typical workflow for creating a song.

Right away I ran into a few issues. ( Bugs/Pilot error? ) My list gets longer every minute!  But I'm not sure where I should post them? The feedback Loop?

And boy do they ever need to get our custom themes happening! I'm stuck with Mercury as it's the only one with a white PVR. And now everything is ssssoooo tiny  I am defiantly in squint mode!  Took me a little while to spot the arranger inspector icon even though I knew it must still me there! What's with this trend in designing icons that are so obscure you need a cheat sheet on your desk to decipher?  like someone else said< "you mean we have to pay to be beta testers?? "

We'll have some more formalized places to discuss Sonar coming, but for now you can continue to post about it here.

Also note there is "Report a Problem" link in the Help menu.

Thanks for the update. Ok, tried that and it works.  Why not leave it as it was?

That's how it's been since that feature was implemented. The goal was to have audible playback of midi files for people without external MIDI gear. If you have ports enabled, the MIDI has somewhere to go and we assume you've set up for external monitoring, per that type of workflow.

Even if you  have  TTS-1  already installed  when loading a midi in the Cakewalk it will not  load TTS-1 with  the Midi. So no midi player except you go in and assign everything manually. A real pain.

It only auto loads tts1 if there's no physical midi ports enabled. So if you have a port checked, it won't load it with a midi file.

Happens with 4K screens with scaling enabled.  Also note the right side of the menu bar is cut off.

Related issue is the Start Screen in 4K mode, and it has no scaling option:

Please share what your current display configuration is including the number of displays, what their resolution is, and what scaling is being applied.

so installing an older version could still break the latest version? maybe that faq could be updated for the new product, it might cause some hoo-har moving forward

It would be highly unlikely. That's been thoroughly tested and we have not had any reports through the ongoing beta process about any conflicts.

so it says: "Will installing Cakewalk Sonar overwrite Cakewalk by BandLab?

No, the two applications install to different locations on your file system, so they can coexist on your computer."

does this mean the "shared utilities" folder hive is no longer shared, or does it still use that one location?

Cakewalk Sonar still uses Shared Utilities. Sonar installs alongside Cakewalk by BandLab the same way CbB installs alongside SONAR Platinum.

Not hardware but GM midi files.

I was surprised when a few people posted that the MS Wavetable was gone. I really didn’t think anyone used it.

And even though you guys might feel GM is dead I don’t think so.

I think the way GM was so built into Cakewalk was probably what built up your largest loyalty base.

Nothing DID midi better than Cakewalk. So I guess that has  now been downgraded with this move.

I know it’s unavoidable and you’ll even find me on file with lots of crash dumps from the TTS-1.

I personally think it’s in the company’s best interests to find a replacement even if it’s real simple.

Why not do like Band in a Box. They include 3 different players as options.
Your 2 closest competitors Cubase and Studio one both have GM players built in.
There’s a growing market of people who play live music using backing tracks. GM is part of that.

It's not as if TTS1 was removed because we don't think GM is a viable workflow. Plus as I said, the MS Wavetable synth isn't something that's ever been a part of the app itself. We simply expose whatever MIDI ports are available in Windows. There have been no changes in the app to remove that.

We definitely would like to have some kind of alternative in the future.

Personally, I wouldn't want to rely on a GM player for backing tracks. There's much better sounding alternatives, but obviously that's subjective on a few levels.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that Cakewalk just removed the only 2 GM midi players we had. First the MS Wavetable now the TTS-1

The MS Wavetable synth was never in the app itself. It may show up depending on what driver mode you're in, but it's not really a great solution. The synth is part of Windows. It functions exactly the same as if you were using a physical external MIDI module, but without an obvious way on how to pump that back into the app if you needed.

TTS-1 was requested to be removed by Roland. In any case, we were not able to maintain it as it's Roland's source code, and it's been noted for having increasing stability issues as time has gone along.

You're definitely right about very quickly feeling like you're in 1998. Not too many people use that kind of workflow these days. Not unless you're working with hardware modules.

Where do the files download to? There is no settings tab in the Product Center.

They go to the Downloads folder in Windows, which is the same place that the in-app updates go.

All appears well... but I got a bit confused reading the Notes page that opens.

For downloading Cakewalk, it's showing Bandlab Assistant to use for the download???

I updated from within CbB, so I'm up to date. But I thought to mention that Product Manager requested an update as well, then showed nothing and locked with a spinner for far too long before I Task managered out. That was before applying the update from within CbB

Note... I just opened Product Manager again and it again requested the update. This time it ran and completed correctly.

But as I already updated to 098, it's showing it as an available download instead of re-install? Is this correct? O guess it's not recognizing that I already have in installed?

If you're on build 098 for CbB, Product Center should see that it is currently installed. It's possible you might need to refresh in CPC. Product Center was updated yesterday to build 051 so the auto-update is expected there.
