  1. You can monitor the sound being recorded with the track's Input Echo button
  2. >> "Stable"=not updated since the '90's, Like, say, the MIDI standard, for example? I'm surprised we manage to make any music at all with something so archaic. 😉 >> "well-documented"=you have to go to the manual to even know where to start. I would hope so.
  3. I submit that Drum Maps are possibly the most stable and well-documented features of SONAR/Cakewalk that get mentioned by folks having difficulty. In terms of enhancements, personally, I'd love to see an XML or JSON export/import.
  4. Because it is, and always has been, how you adjust both Project and General preferences. If you don't have a project open, you don't get all the possible options in the Preference dialog.
  5. You'll notice that the "Cut" operation changed the selected area in the tracks after the clips were transferred to the clipboard (ha). Sort of "shrank" the selected area to include just the clips, not the beginning space. I'm actually surprised that Copy+Paste worked the way it did. It would be nice if "Copy" and "Cut" were consistent. Is it a bug? Debatable. An inconsistency? Arguable. Is Ripple Edit the solution? Not in my opinion. It is, however, another tool in the toolbox that could be used to perform the operation you're trying to do.
  6. Do they sound good when solo'd? There is a real art to finding amp settings/FX pedal settings that sound good in a mix. They may not be the ones that sound good when solo'd. However, depending on the style of music, you probably need to EQ. Try a mix with just Drums, Bass, and one Guitar. Can you make the guitar sound good in that context? The most common thing is to cut bass frequencies out of the Guitar track to make room for Bass, etc.
  7. Probably not the best time of year to release a theme... *crickets* I applaud your effort!
  8. Document v.2020.12.20 updated and uploaded. See previous post above for change detail.
  9. Well, here's my 2c. I think it's polite to ask, if you know how to contact the original author. Given that we are all building on the shoulders of other folks work, I don't feel that it is reasonable to say "No, you can't use the images". However I'd be annoyed if someone took a theme I'd created and made minimal changes to it and released it as a new theme without asking first, and/or giving credit, but I don't feel I could legit prevent it. I asked SteveC before taking Polar Blue and revising it. I still use some of the ideas from SteveC in my latest themes (Pre/Post for example). I consider Polar Blue 2020 a joint effort.
  10. Huh. Definitely worth documenting. My research indicates that Open Insert Send Menu is used in Track View FX Bin, Console FX Bin, and Console Add Send. Scroll Sends Down and Scroll Sends Up are only used in Track View FX Bin as far as I can tell - the Console view increases the size of the Send/FX bins as they are added, to avoid the scrolling list.
  11. Ha ha you don't need to tell me that 🙂 >> currently I find this 3d slider set from cakewalk working decently The important thing is that YOU are happy with the theme. I do agree that the sliders look better in AFUI 1.4 in your screenshot above.
  12. Right - although I also noticed that the "horizontal sliders" were not as visible as I would prefer, but I wanted to avoid the popular "if you just change this and this and this to suit ME it would be perfect" kind of post.
  13. I can appreciate the work that went into that, over and above your starting point. Nice. Clear. Love the contrast of the MIX controls. The "baby blue" highlight works well against the mid-grey. I see you're going for the balance of "not too light, not too dark", a brave goal. (It does make me wish for "contrast/bright" sliders as featured in Studio One, I always thought that was a nice way of allowing a user preference without introducing UI anarchy.) I recommend re-visiting the color of the volume sliders for Tracks. The "Grey on Grey" isn't working, IMO. Maybe White or Light Grey for tracks? Great work.
  14. This is awesome but I found you only need to set the two inner nodes, then select a region on either side of the two nodes, and then Ctrl-Drag down. Thanks.
  15. 19-tone equal temperament is definitely a thing. It's a way of experimenting with minor third intervals that are closer to perfect Pythagorean harmonic intervals than you get with 12-TET. Other intervals are further "out" than 12-TET but it's all good stuff.
  16. @Jim Fogle, at first glance it appears you are using a quote from a post on my own blog to support your position, which is flattering. Just to be clear, IN THIS THREAD I never said MIDI note 60 = C4. What I said was, MIDI note 60 will (or should) produce a tone of ~262 Hz which is considered to be "Middle C". The convention of whether "Middle C" is C3, C4, or C5 is a whole other discussion 🙂
  17. Come next Black Friday sale, it probably will be $99 to upgrade to VC 8.
  18. It's more likely that the PDF is missing the information, rather than the other way around. I guess an Appendix "What can't be themed (as far as we know)" would be a good addition...
  19. Page 101 in the Young Ladies Illustrated Guide demonstrates a "PURPLETRATOR" theme where every color has been replaced with a hideous purple. It's a handy way to quickly find out if a region is able to be changed via theming. I've found it quite handy in situations like the one you're describing.
  20. It's never too late to learn. As I said, personally I use Studio One for DDP export. But, int the spirit of helping folks out on the forums, after I posted the link a couple days ago, I downloaded the utility from the link in my post, and read the manual and ran the --version to see if it matched expected output, verified it apparently ran fine on Windows 10 64-bit. Then I started researching the CD Cue Sheet format. And then I said, "maybe I'll explore this further and write a blog post about it, when I have more time". I see no reason why it wouldn't work, for someone who didn't have a DAW with DDP export and didn't want to spend money and was willing to put in a little effort.
  21. @John Vere, I'm glad you found a solution. I'm not sure where you got $CA 700 from. The command line tools are downloadable and free. But obviously you don't need them and that's cool - I wouldn't look forward to creating a CD Cue Sheet by hand either 🙂
  22. Please see the link in my first reply to the OP: http://ddp.andreasruge.de/
  23. I assume you've investigated Track Folders (Tip: They aren't busses)
  24. DDP. (Disc Description Protocol). Studio One has an export option for this from its Project page, which is what I use. I know that doesn't necessarily help you, but perhaps this will.
  25. Dumb question... you're not feeding your imported reference track through your own mastering chain are you?
