  1. A 2018 FreeEarCandy experimental adventure, using a fast rock drum loop, and a electric rhythm guitar loop I created to match. So much for the loops. In addition, I buffered the guitar loop with a 2nd electric rhythm guitar that slammed out some sustaining power chords to glue it all together.  Every once in a while I get the urge to rip out a high energy rock guitar lead to let off a little steam and the loops gave me the perfect opportunity to do it real quick and with little fuss. I was going to dive into this 2021 mix and see if I could pull more out of it with some new plugins, but decided to just let well enough alone.  Hope you enjoy it!

    Dean.

  2. Sounds real good. Good cowboy voice too.  I've been watching some of the very old cowboy movies lately.  Audie Murphy.  Randolph Scott. Willard Park.  Nice work, RexRed!

  3. Awesome! Yeah. The bassline would be a challenge.  The drums certainly gave the bass an additional bump too.  The growling Keyscape was nice as well.  Cool stuff all the way through.

  4. The tempo changes are strange, but I do think you pulled it off when its all taken into context.  What was most surprising to me was your voice.  Very smooth. Not bad at all! Actually pretty good. The vocals fit perfectly into the picture. You should use your voice more often! Also, your toms are better than mine! So, good the hear from you, Wookiee! Keep them coming!

  5. Second one is most certainly too fast, but impressive playing. The second one is much better in terms of time in my opinion. Have you ever tried to slow it down and even perhaps simplify it more? Don't get me wrong. I certainly do enjoy watching/listening to a very talented piano player that sounds like he has a few extra fingers, but I'm reminded of something my mother told me a very long time ago-"There is an elegance in simplicity".  No doubt, the composition is wonderful, but the parts that seemed to hit me on an emotional level were the slow areas in between. The faster parts appealed to the logical side of my brain. In any event, it was a most enjoyable piece, Jeff.  You are very talented.

Yeah. I never heard this tune and strangely it brings back memories. I can't hear any issues. Well done, Barry!

  6. Mark. This is really really good.  Your voice is killing it, man.  Lots of character and grit.  I expected some of that lush guitar work you put out, but noticeably not what's pulling me in this time around. This one really puts your outstanding vocal talents to the front.  Sounds like a fusion of jazz and soul? Whatever, the arrangement is well done.  As always, the sound quality of your work is clean and robust. I didn't read any of the comments, but if there are any issues I can't pick them out.  A very enjoyable track, Mark.

  7. @Bajan Blue Hi Nigel! Thanks for the review! it sounds like you listened to the first post. I think the last revised post fixed the tom issue-I hope.  Lots of good ears here to help iron out issues I don't catch. Its a great help and I enjoyed all the helpful feedback.  So glad you liked the tune, Nigel!

  8. @Lynn Wilson Hey Lynn! Glad to hear from you!  Yeah. Lots of epic drama in this project.  As per our last conversation about dynamics, this is an example of what I was talking about . This song gave me a lot of opportunities to employ that tool. The opportunities don't always present themselves in certain songs, but when they do, I will try to take advantage of them to some degree to reset the mood or introduce a surprise.

Lynn, your comment was very kind and I appreciate all that you said.  Thanks so much!

  9. @Wookiee Thanks! I don't have studio monitors, so  its always nice to get feedback from people who do. Not sure which version you listened to, but I think the last one unboxed the toms. I really appreciate all the feedback and glad you had some time to join us here and liked the tune my friend! Always a pleasure hearing from you!

I had another listen to the remix (I think).  I believe the issue I'm having with the toms is yes they are a little loud  but , it seems your cymbals have a really pristine sounding reverb with probably a 3 or more second tail. The toms sound Completely Dry and it's putting them in a strange place especially without a noticeable kick.         mark

Mark. I think you hit the nail on the head, and I went ahead and applied those recommendations. Thanks so much for the advice! I think it made a huge improvement.

Hmm very dark and I would say very creative - I think you nailed the theme you were going for. The drums sound wrong but also kind of right given the inspiration - as though they're being 'suppressed' - maybe that was intentional (or not); either way this was a compelling listen.

    Good work

    Andy

Thanks Andy! The drum issue has me puzzled.  My only focus in this project was introducing more low end. Some of the past comments on other projects posted here thought the low end was a bit thin, so wanted to put that feedback to good use in this project.

Well anyway, thanks so much for your thoughts and I'm happy you liked the overall effort, Andy!

Cool dark soundscape. I really liked the sax around the 1 minute mark. I would for sure address the toms.  Very nice build up to the ending .       Fantastic job !                          mark

Hey Mark! Glad to hear from you. Yes. I had a little time today and took another stab at the project and reposted the results. Personally, while there seems to be something about the toms everyone is hearing, I really don't think its the compression that is causing it. Nonetheless, I removed a great deal of it. Perhaps they are just too loud? Well, to be safe, I also knocked off a few db.

Glad you liked to overall effort here.

Great intro. Great vox, delivers the goods. Music creates some awesome melodies, also delivers the goods. Mix sounds more than acceptable to me as the overall impact of the vox and music took my mind off the technicalities. Excellent????

p.s. i, too, am glad to see Wookiee back....good thoughts and good vibrations????

Thanks Larry!  Indeed! Wookiie's absence is felt.
