  1. Great advice here from everyone.

Go into your Windows Sounds and see if the Focusrite is the default playback and record device. I've had DAWs in the past that struggle with having more than one audio interface. Making sure my pro device was the default helped me.

You also want to make sure the correct Focusrite channels are selected in CbB as the master outs, since Focusrite will have more than one channel to choose from.

  2. So, I went through several delays and then I recalled another poster reminding us about previous versions of Sonar including fx from Blue Tubes. I'd overlooked them for years because I forgot what BT meant as it's listed in my plugin manager, etc.. Well, their OilCan Delay was exactly what I was looking for on my guitar part. I put this fx on a dedicated buss and have my guitar tracks' sends pointing to the buss. Doesn't have a sync to host feature, but sometimes with delays and echos the effect can get lost to the drums if the delay is right on the beat.

Easier to show you my settings than to try to explain them.

  3. Hey All--

No, this post isn't on anything broken, for once!! 😉

I've got a guitar part that I'd like to have quick and short little echos cascading after each note.

Should I be using an echo effect or delay? I know echo is a form of delay, but with the plethora of fx I have, how would it be categorized?

I'm drawing a blank and the fx I've tried with delay sounds more like reverb than what I'm looking for. I'd like that effect that's so prevalent in many U2 songs.

    Thanks!

  4. Hello--

For some reason I can't increase my PRV gridline resolution above 8th notes. The follow snap resolution is turned off.

When I click on the different resolution options, nothing happens to the gridlines.

Not sure what I can do there.

One possibility is, PCI card-driven  interfaces work best with the older motherboards.  While the newer boards have PCI slots, they are often bridged, and that can present its own data-streaming problems.  (This is not an absolute, as some newer boards work just fine with PCI-based audio, but it can definitely be a factor).

I'm not sure how that applies where the same PCI card and mobo are in place and everything worked great with W7, then the issues started when the OS was upgraded to W10, but maybe your only referring to LasRul?

Weird... can you isolate this behavior to one or more specific synths?

Do any of your synths ever get deleted automatically when you delete all associated tracks?

I'll do a test and post back. I always thought it was by design, but with so many questions, I need to check my math.

    -EDIT-

Well, I stand corrected. Deleting the instrument and MIDI tracks will delete the synth and drum sampler from the Synth Rack.

I've been having a lot of issues since my W10 upgrade, so I'm hardly the baseline to compare to. Although, this might be the one thing that W10 did make better/fix with CbB. I have been deleting the synths from the synth rack since the OS upgrade, so it's possible that I had the anomaly with W7. I'll never know, and I'm glad it's working as designed now.

Dave G got a lot to chew on here. :)

I never have to delete my synths from the rack, Cakewalk actually deletes the synth for you when you delete the corresponding tracks.

For example: if your synth has 1 audio track and 1 midi track and you delete them both, Cakewalk automatically deletes the synth from the project (and the Synth Rack, obviously). I don't remember the exact behavior, like if you have to delete them at the same time... I can't find the correct place in the online manual.

I know this was added to Sonar/Cakewalk some years ago so that people would not end up with your scenario of "leftover" synths in the rack.

This is not my experience. I noticed that synths or AD Drums 2 specifically, were loading when my project loaded even after I deleted the only instrument and midi tracks associated with it.

When I went into synth rack, there it was.

It might be a different setting, but I'm certain of this behavior.

Would like to hear from someone else if they have this same behavior.

  8. One thing I noticed is that unless I remove a synth from the synth rack, it continues to load while the project is loading. It seems that you can delete the midi and instrument track but the synth will remain in the synth rack.

If you don't want a synth in your project any longer, if you remove it from the synth rack, you will be prompted if you want to also remove the associated tracks. That's how I remove them now so my projects load faster.

It's a tractor beam to draw people into the BandLab ecosystem. And you can't sell add-ons unless people have the core program.

As a precedent, consider IK's AmpliTube Free. It's a fine amp sim and free, but they make their money from people going to the Custom Shop and buying more modules.

This happens a lot in gaming too. The game is free but if you want the fancy weapons or uniforms, you have to buy them.

I would imagine that companies like MOTU and Steinberg are not too happy that a $400 program like CbB is free when it's right up there with their products - some might argue, even better.

Sometimes I wonder if their employees are the ones starting these threads!!

  10. I have to add that installing CbB I didn't have any issues with my previous version of SPLAT. I wondered about CbB when it first came out, so my finger was on the mouse button to go back to SPLAT if I needed to, and I never did. So, the issues you're having are not inherent to installing CbB over SPLAT.

Having said all that, I am also a huge proponent of not upgrading or making big changes to my software or computer while I'm in the middle of a project. I have paid the price too many times to do that again.

It happens frequently.  When I record a project I usually record and save many versions of the project and each version is saved with the title and a number.

It happens that when I open the last project version a message appears saying: there is a corrupted file and some audio is missing.

I know the workaround to solve it, but I want to know why this issue occurs.

I want to circle back to trying to resolve the dropouts and such, using ASIO and the interface - I have a few other things to knock out of the way this morning, and then will start at the beginning of the thread, and try to find something perhaps I missed earlier, because of having several competing things going on, tugging at me in different directions - so I want to focus on this thread, and see if something can be figured out to resolve these for you.

I appreciate the help whenever you can!!

OK - well, the WASAPI route was a plan B anyways - so it is coming up on midnight here, and I am pretty wiped out, however, after a good night's sleep, I am going to leave this thread up, so I can jump in and help you figure this all out, once and for all (I sincerely hope).

I would have spent more time earlier, but I was trying to tame some Kontakt issues with one of the Komplete 12 drum libraries, and getting the mixer to present the Output drop-down, so I could alter each kit piece to go to a separate output channel.  That was driving me nuts - sorry for the long explain.

Anyways, I will give this my undivided attention in the morning, and do my best to help you get the dropouts resolved.  :)

    Bob Bone

Yes, the separate outputs in kontakt for CW on a drum kit can be a real pain. I ended up documenting the routes if you want to see what I have, let me know.

I appreciate the help on my issue. If it was just the first few playbacks that dropped out, I wouldn't care as much, but I do get the occasional blip when I start recording. It's not even 1 second and I get a dropout. Then, I try again and it's fine. I just can't have that because it's interferes with the creative flow.

I have an HDTV for a computer display monitor (65" wahoo!), so I just have the TV's HDMI handle the audio, and I have a sound bar connected to the TV by a light-pipe cable, so that is how my Windows sounds play).  So, it has been a while since I had some other arrangement, but I wouldn't think you would want your Windows playback devices set to the digital S/PDIF devices.  What other choices do you have for that?

And, are you using WSAPI Shared, or Exclusive, for your Driver Mode in Cakewalk?

    Bob Bone

    Hey @Robert Bone

65" monitor! That's crazy!! Crazy cool that is.

The spdif is the only option. I think it might have to do with the computers sound card. It detects when something's plugged into it, except for the spdif. So, without anything plugged into it that's all I've got. All the inputs and outputs are those tiny 1/8" jack ports, so I don't have anything to plug into them.

I tried WASAPI shared because I didn't know what else to try.

  15. @Robert Bone

Well, I can't get pass go to even pay my $200.

I followed the same process = enabled the onboard audio chip in BIOS. Enabled the Realtek audio in Windows, reboot, ran the wave profiler in CW,  and the Realtek device is grayed out in Windows as well as CW--so I can't test to see if it's the sound card based on my current equipment. I have an old Echo Layla 24/96, but it uses the same drivers as the current 3G model, so that wouldn't prove anything.

I'm not sure where to go at this point. I hate to do what some people would do when I worked at GC and just buy stuff to use and then return it a few days later, although that sure crossed my mind.

I appreciate everyone's help here. Don't know what else I can try. I did have to move to W10 for many reasons, so it's not like I would have done something differently had I known. I just sure am glad I was between projects when I did the OS upgrade.

Did you click Apply, after changing the Driver Mode?  And then go look at input and output audio devices?

I have been ASIO for so may years, I am digging deep for the above - not sure if that matters, but would be easy to check out by trying.  I am on a phone call with a friend, so will have to get back to your thread after I finish that.  Sorry

Let me repeat the above and then do a complete reboot of my system just to be sure.

    I'll post back.

    Many thanks
