  1. OK. I think I'll probably just uninstall Blocks. I don't have a use for it. Thanks
  2. Hello-- Heard this was an excellent one: TVerb , and BOOM! It's on sale for $59 US (76% off). On my way to make a purchase!
  3. I just have Reaktor Player 6. Maybe that's why I have to build my own?
  4. My studio will forever smell like my Auralex room treatments! I don't mind!
  5. I'll keep that link handy the next time someone slams CW as abandonware.
  6. JB-- I completely understand. My older mixes, (and sometimes not so old) make me not want to let anyone hear them. The one thing I can attest to is, the average listener (fan, etc) can't tell the difference between a good or bad mix. They just know if they like it or not. Yes, if the mix is really bad by everyone's standards, then the average listener is probably not going to like the track -- but here is the advice I've heard many times from pros all over -- never apologize for your work. That is just bad form and those negative comments end up being the listener's first impression of your track. What's my takeaway? I try to do better on my next track. Each one I try to do better than the last one. Over time, I can hear that my mixes are way better than they used to be. What else? Step away from your mixes for a while. Give them time to sit and go work on something else. You might be surprised when you do listen to them again that they weren't so bad after all. Q: "What's the best mix you've ever done?" A: "I don't know. I haven't done it yet!" Cheers!
  7. Have to agree with the previous replies. If someone posts with that type of title and few details, I kind of think their mind is made up and they just need to vent. For me, the program is rock solid. Occasionally, I'll get some weirdness and that's when I ask for help from the forum. I haven't left without some solution or workaround yet. Then, it's back to making music! No DAW is perfect. Some may work better with some systems for whatever reason, or just a matter of user preferences and familiarity. You just have to decide if you want to move forward when an issue comes up or throw in the towel.
  8. Hey All-- I've been downloading the free NI REAKTOR stuff--the player, the blocks, the presets. I haven't really gotten into messing with it yet, and then I got this email from NI with a how-to video, so I thought I'd check it out. I know I'm missing something. I am an NI fan, but I just can't see spending this much time to build my own synth when there are so many out there that just need tweaks to suit your taste. I mean, after the demo in the video, the synth example still sounds like a Casio from Radio Shack to me. What am I missing?
  9. Your best bet for getting relevant and useful advice would be to let us hear one of your mixes. If you can post a link to one of your tracks where you feel this way, you would get much more accurate feedback from the group.
  10. OK, someone install it and let me know that everything still works in Cakewalk, and when I've read a consensus, I'll install it.
  11. I had a yellow lab, and that was one smart dog. I like the look of the Shiba Inu -- looks like a little fox, but I heard they are hard to train and can be a little too alpha. Oh, wait. Did you say DAW?
  12. Hello-- Since I'm so used to using shortcuts generally, I looked into a dedicated Sonar keyboard a while back. The keys were colored with descriptions of what each did. Real helpful if you want to learn new shortcuts, but the ones I looked at were really cheap--as in low quality, so I went with a high end back-lit Logitech and I really like it. I'll just have to memorize the shortcuts I don't know already.
  13. Well, here we go...you've got to love producing in-the-box--you've got a tool for everything!! I inserted my UAD Precision Multi-band (multi-band compressor) and like always, started messing around, then looking at the presets. What was there? Hah! Drums exciter for synth drums!! Dropped it in, made a few tweaks for taste, Then added the tube saturation from the CW Pro channel, a few teaks there and boom! I like the way the highs sound AND, I like the way the snare sounds better too! I had layered a couple of the non-synth snares from AD as the synth snares just weren't doing it for me. This chain really made them crack the way I like. Thanks all!
  14. Yes, thanks. I'm thinking of something like that to "glue" the layers together. I also have the option of just replacing the HH and cymbals with the kontakt HH and cymbals if it ends up sounding better.
  15. I've got UAD Precision Maximizer and Multiband Compressor.
  16. That was actually the idea I was going to try. I'll insert another sampler of kontakt, add my favorite drum kit sample, and copy the midi track over from AD and delete everything but the HH and cymbals and layer them in.
  17. I've had Sonar and bought your Big Book too. I'll look for the Sizzle preset.
  18. I'm going to have to research how to send single instruments out of AD. That's what I always do with kontakt.
  19. Hi Folks-- I'm back again with another question for you expert Addictive Drums users--(I've used kontakt with their drum sample libraries for many years). So, I have some ideas on what I think I'm going to try, but I'd like to get some of your ideas, and I'm sure you've had this come up and you have more experience with AD than I do. So, I'm EQing a mix I'm working on, and I'm looking at the EQ responses for AD Reel Machines pack (80's synth drums pack) and the highs are just not there for the HH and cymbals. I can hear it, and I can see that they are barely registering. I understand you can't boost an EQ that isn't there--(you can, but you know what I mean). So, do you have any ideas for how to increase the crisp highs on this drum sample? Thanks!
  20. Great point. That is one of the most missed steps in the process. CHECK YOUR BACKUPS! No use backing up corrupted data, or storing them in a place that is not conducive to keeping them from getting corrupted. Maybe once a <year?> go back and try to restore your backups to make sure it's still usable.
