Really don't want to go on about this but had to reply to "Amplitube can be quite overwhelming for the guitar ignorant."
Amplitube has two big problems: 1) Can become quite pricey and 2) It is really large for both computer resources and choices for what to pick. No need to discuss the installation issues or items suddenly going missing that some of us encounter.
Tonex has the same problem with hunting for a capture you want.
I can't be the only hobbyist that likes to record my practice sessions and doesn't want to capture a completely dry signal. The best program I found was JamVOX which is amalgam of recorder/trainer (like the old Tascam units), amp sim & effects, stem separator like function and something like deCoda zplane. The big problem with JamVOX is that it is 20 year old technology at this point and it is very noisy, lots of static.
Looking for a free but really solid amp sim and IR loader: https://www.stltones.com/products/stl-ignite-emissary-plug-in-bundle
