  1. This does sound very nice, but I do have to wonder - is having a sampled (real) synth really that much better than using some of the better synth plugins? I know it means you get a real analogue sound, but I'm guessing it also means you lose some tweakability, and that it uses more disk space.

Either way, this is a very good deal.

  2. Apparently, their flagship EQ is discounted to $349.99 too. Strange though - I would have thought that anyone who has enough money to buy an EQ plugin for more than $300 wouldn't care if it was $399 or $349.

It's the Gold version.  I believe most who still use this library use the platinum version.  And really, based on the reaction to the announcement that NI was no longer supporting the Kontakt version of this, it is still in use by working composers.

    Price is decent though.

I thought they used EW's own proprietary Play engine?

  4. hmm... the paid-for ones do seem to be new, and the link Simon posted above still works. Not sure whether over time they'll migrate the other 10 free ones, silently get rid of that page, or both.

  5. I'm all for the new website; I'm even ok with it selling affordable instruments; I don't understand why they would take down some previously released free instruments though... unless they've been rebranded and are now being sold

And just have all my non-library files in a nice organized manner on the Kontakt drive.  The folders are all labeled by company and I rename libraries to tell me what they are, if they don't already.

I used to group all my full-Kontakt libraries in folders according to their company (which would help if I forgot whether I had previously bought a library). I recently came to the conclusion that I would often forget about the smaller libraries that I had bought because I was always looking in the 'bigger' companies' folders. So, I very recently started grouping them by type first (e.g. Keys/Bowed Strings/etc), then by company, and then finally by library name. Time will tell if this makes a positive difference...

That means it is better to write a Linux app than "native" .net app.

Depends what language you like writing in...

As an aside, a .NET Core app will run in both Windows and Linux. You can't use WPF for UIs and expect them to run on Linux though; maybe a cross platform library like Qt, though they just don't 'feel' quite right.

Troubleshooting on a PeeCee: Get error message.  Put error message in Google.  Find link to the hotfix offered in the Windows KB.

Troubleshooting on a Mac: Get error message.  Put error message in Google. Find article in Apple KB on what setting needs to be changed.

Troubleshooting on a Linux box: Get error message.  Put error message in Google. Discover how many people have had the same error and have asked how to clear it the  community forums.  Find possible solution halfway through a thread on page 4.  Try to update library mentioned in post. Discover it has dependencies downstream. Use package manager to update it all.  Solution doesn't work.  Continue to read thread and discover it didn't work for a lot of other people either. Continue to search. find another possible answer. rinse, repeat.  eventually get the program working, but another program had a dependency on that old gcc+ library and now needs to be updated to work with the replacement.  reinstall app using package manager.  Test both, now they work!

    Super simple!

If I want to fsck around with computers I'll have a girlfriend sit on my Mac mini.

Don't forget that reading a typical man page for a linux command will take a year...

  9. I believe that it's a list of the best DAWs according to their readership, or at the very least the people who took the survey - that may or may not correspond to someone's personal workflow, but it may help people new to the field, or just give some awareness to other DAWs.

  10. Hi Zo

This isn't going to fix anything, but might give more insight on the problem. If you press Win+R to get the Run dialog and then type certmgr.msc, you should get the Certificates manager. On the left panel you should see a folder called Trusted Root Certificate Authorities. Inside that folder should be another folder called Certificates. If you click that, you should see all your trusted root certificates on the right panel. Do you see USERTrust TSA Certificate Authority in there? If so, has it expired?
