  1. I'm very sorry for your loss.

As bitflipper mentioned, don't hold back on making music if you feel you can; I read somewhere that creativity triggers chemicals in the brain that can help you to feel better.

  2. This is a good song Douglas. I think this has previously been mentioned, but it sounds to me like the cymbal crashes (open high hats?) when played successively are a tad loud, causing the compressor to pump the sound a little. Other than that minor point, it's a good mix. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thanks everyone; I'm glad you thought it was a good listen.

The 2019 mix is definetly more clear. I like the song. Both mixes are fine IMHO. But if I had to pick one, it would be the 2019 mix for sure.

Thanks Michael. It's good to know that the hours I've put into this hobby over the years have made me better at it.

[Either that, or my newer plugins just sound good regardless of what settings I dial in 🙂]

I have no visions anymore! I am disillusioned at all. There is no future when you are old, the world belongs to the younger ones! That's it!

When it matters aim for the stars, even if you end up flat on your face; that way, at least you'll know you tried. (Disclaimer: just try and minimise the distance if you fall)

  5. So far I've been using Overloud's Tapedesk on my songs, with an instance on each (and every) track and bus, meaning that my project will typically have somewhere between 10-40 instances (as well as other plugins) active.

Is this how IK's tape machines would be used, or is it a case of just using it on the master bus? I've heard that CPU usage is a little high.

  6. Some of you may remember this one; I thought I might redo a tune I did a few years ago, using some plugins I recently added to my collection. As usual, comments and feedback are welcome.

Enjoy, and comment/like/subscribe if you feel inclined!

  7. Hi all

I'm currently thinking about getting a cheapish MIDI expression pedal for the studio (only), and I've currently narrowed it down to two choices:

    • Nektar NX-P
    • M-Audio EX-P

Does anyone have any experience with either of these, or recommendations for any other pedals?

    Thanks

Some more bass and brass can help make a mix sound bigger, as does harmonizing the melody.

Useful advice to keep in mind for my next orchestration; thanks for the tip!

Also, thanks for listening LadyFuzztail. Glad you enjoyed it.

I like the lose (rubato) feel to the opening section, nice job on the composition.

Thanks. I could have tightened up the timing, but felt that keeping things loose (for the first section) with an instrumentally sparse arrangement felt more intimate and emotionally moving.

    Nice composition:
I can imagine it being played by a full orchestra for sure.

Thanks for the comments and for listening everyone. Glad you liked it.

  10. Nice tune @Wookiee

Calm and flowy, with (as you say) little surprises every now and then to shake things up a little, especially the drums towards the end.

    Thanks for sharing.

Going to buy Maschine Mikro mk3 on Saturday, I think.

I was recently entertaining the idea of getting a pad controller, and did some online research. For the quality/sensitivity of the pads, the conclusion of a video group review I saw was that of the 'cheap' controllers, the Maschine Mikro mk3 was the best; the Presonus ATOM came next. For the very best in pad quality, you'd need to go for a (full) Maschine. Apparently, the Mikro mk3 had slightly less sensitive pads, and was occasionally prone to double triggers (whereas the full Maschine didn't).

It's a shame really, as not everyone has the budget/space for a full Maschine.
