  1. This is very true for new users. There was a point in time from the late 90s to 2005 or so where many old school analog users (probably like you and I) were clutching our tape machines resisting the digital realm. Others were simply curious. Then something else happened around this same time, we were introduced to a DAW by a friend, maybe we saw someone use one and it grabbed our attention. A lot can be said for being introduced to a DAW and it being your first DAW. you begin to feel so invested, that moving to another DAW feels like walking backwards (in terms of learning new features, keyboard shortcuts). That's the case for me anyway. Unless Cakewalk rolls out some type of Lego Lanes which totally loses my interest, I'll keep using it because of only 2 things 1- It does what I want it to. 2- I don't have to learn anything new (which lets me focus on the important stuff like the music).
  2. Its an old video but it still apply's
  3. The above is correct, there is no transfer of licenses with Cakewalk products but why bother Bandlab is better than Sonar ever was. And Bandlab is free. Sonar Platinum runs on an online authorization using Cakewalk Command center, He would need your Privy details and your Cakewalk Account. this would give him access to all your Privy data along with all your Cakewalk Products. With Sonar kind of a thing of the past now, I would strongly suggest Bandlab. its the same DAW. Minus a few plug ins.
  4. I would try closing the project and reopening. Don't save any thing, just close/reopen. Its possibly a bad plug in. You might want to list those.
  5. What are you using for a sound card ? And to monitor from ?
  6. This is probably in regards to my post from this morning I'll try to explain a little better... A mono track is one Audio signal Vs. two. Drums are a unique blend of pieces that require individual attention. Kick- Kick needs to stay dry (90%) of the time. Compression and EQ are your friends, Reverbs and Delays are your enemy. That's not to say a tiny bit of stereo reverb will kill your mix but your Kick drum requires focus and that is usually obtained by a dry compressed signal acting as a metronome if you will. It will clash with your bass guitar so tweak EQ to make them both "Sit in the mix". Snare- Allowed more Reverb and Delays. Toms- Allowed more Reverb and Delays. Cymbals- Similar to the Kick, be careful with Reverbs and Delays. - Drum pieces are best mixed separately, and sent to a Bus. But pay close detail to that bus and FX you may throw on it. a little EQ and Bus compression is suitable but you shouldn't need anything drastic because your kit should already be mixed decently before it hits the Drum Bus. - Using a stereo reverb or Delay on a Drum Bus can cause issues with the Kick (and other drum pieces) getting "Lost in the mix". - Freezing Drum tracks that are soft synths is okay but you have to watch the phase relation, a Frozen sample could easily swallow up your good kick or snare sound because its out of phase.
  7. Not really necessary. You just don't want your kick as a stereo track, or have a stereo FX on the kick track (unless its for some out of the ordinary effect).
  8. Kick should always (in most cases) be mono/straight up the gut. If your hearing your Kick float around it could be a phase issue. When you bounce the kick and snare to audio tracks, do you still have the midi (Addictive drums) tracks too ? Could also be a plug in floating it around.
  9. Not in the Track view but I had a similar issue that still pops up once in a while. Which leads me to believe its not Cakewalk, but my mouse or my midi controller (sending data while im editing). In my case I saw it in the PRV while dragging notes, either notes got stuck or didn't copy at all. A reboot of Cakewalk cures the problem every time. @lapasoa Do you have any midi devices ?
  10. I've run into similar walls trying resurrect old projects. Sometimes its better to cut your losses then put money/resources into a dinosaur. This is also another great reason to back up all your Midi files in a separate folder. A lot of great suggestions on this thread. Hope you can make it back.
  11. It would be for me as well. But only because I still have sonar installed on this same PC. Cakewalk and Sonar share certain folders. Uninstalling Cakewalk could hose some of Sonars presets.
  12. Have you tried bumping up the midi buffer from 250 to 500 ?
  13. It most definitely is a move forward. Firewire is being phased out in favor of USB 2+3 and also Thunderbolt. I cant speak for the 18I20 but I've owned a 18I8 for over 4 years now and its been rock solid. I've never even had to reinstall the drivers since moving to a better PC build 3 years ago (Intel I7 8700). Most of what I've read here on the forums have been positive in conjunction with Cakewalks Bandlab.
  14. Your phone might not have a codec to play the wav file. Thus it just sounds white noise over your phone speaker. IDK. I do know WMP and VLC are not great for dissecting mixes, only for a basic listen.
  15. Same here, probably because we were raised using multitrack tape and this seems to be the direct approach. I am a huge fan of Roy Thomas Baker and his huge background vocals (Producer for "Queen", The Cars", "The Darkness"). That is where I use Overwrite mode just as Lynn mentioned... To stack vocals.
  16. ya if it was 48 to begin with and you uploaded at 48 I could see why, but your gaining nothing by uploading a 44.1 to a 48.
  17. Some how I knew this was coming. Here's a former Cakewalk user complaining of Lag in Cubase https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=127656 It can happen in any DAW. You failed to list GPU specs. I would start there. I have never had an issue what so ever changing tabs in the multi dock but then again, I've never tried 1000 tracks, not even for "educational" purposes. I see you made this video a few weeks ago.. is this the monitor you are using ? If that is the monitor you are using, refresh rate could be part of the problem.
  18. I would also find this useful. Might be an easy fix too.. The pop up marker window could add a color box to choose a color from.
  19. If you have a project with multiple tempo changes, I suggest to create a project template. it will store all tempo changes. The template might only be good for 1 project but it beats doing it all by hand.
  20. Yes SHIFT still does that. Holding CNTL+SHIFT will copy/prevent the clip from moving L/R. It will also allow you to move the clip up/down to another track without moving so make sure your first move is from L/R.
  21. Great mix, not blown away by the mastering though, sounds like something's could have been cleaned up and other things brought out more. Then again, your choice for a mastering engineer (if you call him that) would have been my last choice ever. Depending on time restraints with my own projects, I might try to take a quick shot at it. That first song "Bitter"... Wow great song.
  22. Im going to say it as well, 700 tracks is a lot of tracks for any daw to handle. Each time you open the Console view, you are asking Cakewalk to repaint every graphic, every color and all this with moving parts (Meters, Faders, Pan, exc). I wish I had a solution, I use max 50-70 tracks per project and views are pretty fast moving here. You might try consolidating some of these tracks.
  23. This is almost always a plug in issue. However you might be able to bypass this (direct route to the plug in) by disengaging any input echo on any tracks, this includes midi tracks. In other words...got input echo on ?
  24. Are any of you experiencing this problem using Mix recall ??? Because theoretically, the only thing that can changes VST presets in a .CWP is mix recall. I personally have never had this problem before. But maybe Mix recall doesn't like some Cakewalk users.
