  1. I saw the news around 5 AM this morning and it broke my heart. As many have mentioned Cory was the YouTuber that we all were inspired to become. His no nonsense approach and ethics were the traits we respected and admired. Putting yourself out there is exhilarating but also at times exasperating and exhausting in so many ways, especially mentally. It is so easy for us to see someone on their channel and make judgements about them, who we think they are when in reality as is all too true in this case, there is so much more going on. As in Cory’s case battles and pain occurring that the depth would break even the best of us. Praying for his family and loved ones, as well as the broader community who are dealing with losing a friend who for the majority of us have never met but made a connection that affected us in a profound and positive way. May we all be more compassionate and reach out to those who we feel are going through a struggle. Even the smallest word of encouragement can be such a powerful way to help someone. Simeon

  2. Cory and I bonded at a deep level. I'm the Peter D. he posted about on YouTube. I knew he was struggling mightily. I was trying to get a new computer shipped out to him, a really decked-out machine. He was not doing well financially and had a lousy, underpowered computer. How unfair is it that someone so gifted as a musician and creator struggled to afford a powerful enough computer to do the music he loved and make the most honest review videos I've ever seen. I'm so heartbroken. I'm with my son at a football game at his college crying. My wife knows how deeply Cory and I bonded. Cory experienced horrific abuse as a kid and that doesn't just leave you as an adult. He was incredibly talented, honest and sweet, He used his platform to share his life to help others in many ways, including trying to de-stigmatize mental illness. I often referred to Cory as the only influencer I respect. Greg Schlaepfer of Orange Tree Samples and I are good friends and we both loved, cared about and respected Cory. Watch his videos sharing about his mental illness. He tried to make the world a more accepting place. Let's not forget him or his message. Rest in peace, Cory. Thank you for your friendship. I'm so, so sorry.

  5. I never go anywhere else on the Cakewalk site. This is the forum I go to and these are the friends I post for. I've talked to Larry about this and he is much more about friendship than deals. He posts the deals to help his friends. He cares about the people here. I do too. Why would I post for people I don't know? I bet a lot of people are just like me and only come here. People are constantly posting informational stuff here like Kontakt updates and software updates. It's not deals--it's just information that's useful to our community. We want our friends to know. For some reason, it is different when I post the same kind of thing. The passing of Cory is a huge deal for this community. Historic. We make our decisions on what a good deal is through the generosity of people like Cory and Simeon. The idea that a good deal is the lowest price is ridiculous. A good deal is for the best software at the right price. Please let's all end the drama and continue to remember this sensitive beautiful man who helped us all so much. R.I.P. Cory.

  6. My wife, daughter and I are driving home (my wife's driving) after visiting my son at college and we're listening to Cory's recent music. And I thought maybe we could use this thread to share how he affected us. Cory was brave. When I saw how vulnerable Cory made himself by publicly sharing his mental illness, I was moved by his courage and also worried how vulnerable he made himself, because of how society stigmatizes mental illness. Cory was a disarmingly kind, sweet and open hearted man. He was extremely vulnerable. I had first learned of Cory after becoming a fan of his videos when I saw him do what no influencer should ever do if they want to keep the freebies, sponsorships and money coming, he told the unvarnished truth. I've long been outspoken on ethics as a marketer. And Cory was honest and really knew his stuff. Unlike 99.99% of influencers, if Cory saw problems with a sample library, he told you exactly what it was. I really wish that was the way all influencers were, just a talented, honest person telling the truth, not shill pitchman posing as a "reviewer." That means turning down or missing out on making cash. That took serious integrity. I enormously admired that. This man was not a shill. Cory was the real deal, with a huge heart.

I also sent vocals to the ReelADT plugin from waves and the Hitsville reverb chambers from UA. https://baselines.com/?p=6931

  14. Actually, that's not far from the initial SMS response I got from our singer after I sent her Craig's link. We have a running in-joke about how she's easily distracted by shiny things. I have explicitly instructed her to not turn around while on stage, lest we risk her getting getting befuddled by the visuals. Fortunately, as a longtime professional myself, I can be counted on to remain laser-focused on the important stuff: girls in short skirts on the dance floor.

  16. Same here. The first song I learned to play on guitar without having the music in front of me was Misery. Lol. Second was Anna. I was 10 or 11. I had The Pocket Beatles paperback book with all the lyrics and chords. I used to wedge it under the front edge of our big tube TV to keep it open so I could play and read it. The binding separated and all the pages fell out eventually from jamming it under there. I picked up a CD at a record shop one time. Ritchie's in fact, when he was in The Pocono's in PA. long before he moved out by you. The Beatles at The BBC. I think it was an import but I may be wrong. I don't think you could ever get it here in the U.S. from a retail store. It was a 2 or 3 CD set iirc. That set paints a whole different picture of them. It sounds like a studio recording but I think it was actually live. He also had a ton of bootlegs on CD. Somewhere, somehow, over the years, somebody got a ton of their studio tapes and put them on CD. He had a 10 disc set of nothing but studio banter and starts and stops of them doing takes. He wanted too much for them and I never got them. He did let me borrow a couple to listen to for a few days to try and entice me to buy them. I was pissed. I never could get my SCSI CD drive to rip and burn. 😁😔😜. To this day I cringe when someone mentions scuzzy (SCSI) drives. One of the spots on that bootleg CD that sticks out in my mind was, the recording engineer got pissed off at them for goofing off and you hear him yell at them, "TAKE FOUR!!!". I also had quite a few bootleg LPs. Lost them all when my basement flooded one time. Had them in cardboard boxes on the floor. Because of that, to this day, I will not store anything on my basement floor unless it's in those big plastic totes. I keep most stuff on those metal racks with the bottom shelf removed so I can slide the plastic totes under it. If anything happens the water has to get at least 18" up before anything gets touched and at that pointn ou got bigger problems than just your basement flooding. Lol. Of course I got blamed for the flooding. Iowa weather is very unpredictable. We had an early freeze one fall and I left the garden hose out because I was still using it. It froze, broke, then thawed and we didn't know it. Of course, my reply was, well you're too cheap to go let me get the sump pumps to put in the sump pump pits we paid the concrete guy an extra $2,000 dollars to put in and run drain tile from out in to the ****ing yard Mrs. Scrooge. Ah memories. Good times. Good times.

  21. Apple doesn’t suck at all. I made over $2,000 so far as an early purchase stock holder. Too bad I can’t afford them now. I love Apple! It will help me pay for my new PC! And I hate to say it but I also love my iPhone. It’s 10 year old and still works. My wife has been through 3 Android phones in the same time span. When it dies I don’t think I can afford to upgrade. But maybe my Apple stocks will pay for it. Apple is still a plug and play with a lot of audio interfaces and software. The price is a total rip off but obviously that doesn’t stop sales.

  25. (Thank you @PavlovsCat ) Yes, I wrote to them. The short story is that on their website, there was a page that I found on Google and that after logging in, it gave me vouchers. That way, I acquired some cheaper libraries. I mentioned it in this forum and another user warned me that this could be a mistake, so that user and I decided to write to them to tell them. Instead of thanking me, they banned me, but since I had paid for several libraries, I responded that they should give me access or refund my money. At first they did nothing, but after threatening them, they returned the money I had paid on their website. About the libraries that I had paid through other stores, I had to talk to those stores and fix the situation with them. An incredible story that makes Karanyi the worst company in the sector that I know of. For me, that company sucks

  30. Back in the days, I was so anxious to put my hands on anything by The Beatles that even poor audio quality recordings such as the ones on this record would be played constantly. I learned every track on that thing because we always needed more songs when we played weddings and ballrooms and such. Much of it they eventually recorded on their first few albums but there were a few odd numbers that never made it on any official record. And I was still discovering their official discography, anyway. In many cases, it was the first time I was exposed to those songs (Be-Bop-A-Lula comes to mind). I thought it was amusing because a lot of material was stuff that The Beatles themselves had learned because they needed to play for hours every night back then. Man, I love the Beatles. They weren't even around anymore when I was born and I feel I owe them so much.

  31. So with my friend Cory gone. I want to honor him and I wish this video wasn't being used as part of an attack strategy on 8Dio, especially now after Cory has taken his life. Here's the true story of what happened around 8 years ago that resulted in that video that Reid has posted to turn around a tribute to Cory into exploiting Cory for an attack on 8Dio. I'm not going to pretend I'm not sickened by his actions: Cory never did a video review or any review of an 8Dio library under his own name at any point. Cory did make a couple of helpful videos where he walked through some issues he had with some 8Dio libraries, but never a review, which is the subject of the video. NEVER. Cory was an 8Dio customer who started doing some work for one of 8Dio's competitors, who was also Troels' former business partner in ToneHammer. The reviews in question referred to in Cory's YouTube video, were made under a different person's name, But it was clearly a sock puppet account Cory made. Despite the different name, the sock puppet account used Cory's IP address, his business name and his email address featuring Cory's full name -- the same email address that he used in our correspondence. The account holder never purchased any 8Dio libraries but made three 1 star reviews of 8Dio libraries which not only trashed the libraries, but 8Dio management. The review system wasn't even a system I was familiar with like Trust Pilot, It was something out of WordPress. It had nothing to do with YouTube, it was just on 8Dio's website. Tawnia and Cory exchanged a bunch of emails about these reviews -- this is where the two first got to know one another. At first, Cory denied that he made the reviews and said they were made by a business partner who was no longer with his organization so he couldn't change them (I actually have the correspondence). Of course, that makes no sense when it used Cory's email address. The responses really aren't logical and eventually Cory kind of admitted that he made the reviews, but he was really upset about being confronted and called out. Cory's behavior in that correspondence isn't logical or consistent and I wouldn't call him a liar, because I think his rationale was more complicated due to his mental illness. Tawnia was telling him that he could do reviews in his own name, but the sock puppet account never purchased any libraries and needed to be deleted as it violated their company policy. As a dot com owner myself, I would have went to the company that hosted the review system and just explained it to them and sent them the correspondence. In the 8 years since then -- and I asked Cory about this stuff and he didn't want to get into it -- because he's embarrassed and the fact is, he's told some mistruths about it, 8Dio ended up leaving the rating platform and it became a non-issue. But this video was an issue and Cory was both uncomfortable about doing and also didn't want to take it down. Cory was very poor, and from our correspondence, I take it, but never directly asked, that it left him unable to hold down employment. He used a business name, but I don't think he was actually making money from it. It just appeared to be what he hoped would be a business from making YouTube videos and music shared on YouTube and BandCamp. Cory and Tawnia's correspondence has continued for years to the point where Tawnia became a confidant for Cory. I realize that Cory was very frustrated with Tawnia for repeatedly questioning him about the sock puppet account, but their relationship was definitely not a mere business relationship, it was significantly Tawnia checking in with Cory and Cory confiding the personal details in his life. It's really surprising to me that Tawnia was telling Cory she wanted him to make walkthrough videos for 8Dio after posting that video and knowing his issues, and to me, it speaks to her compassion and empathy. 99.999% of business people in Tawnia's shoes would have given up on Cory. I'm an empath and I'd love to think that I would have reacted like Tawnia, but to be very frank, I almost certainly wouldn't have used him for anything to do with my business. Understand the journey that Tawnia and Cory went on. Tawnia started out just seeing fake reviews and being upset about them and wanting Cory to do the right thing and remove them. She never, at any point, had objections to a review under Cory's real account. But as she learned more and more about Cory's mental illness, she became someone who deeply cared about him and their relationship was not a business relationship. Tawnia looked out for Cory as a friend and she was working with me to help Cory for the last few weeks. Tawnia and Cory were recently working together before I got involved for Cory to make walkthrough videos as a contractor for 8Dio. When I got to know Tawnia and told her about Cory needing a more powerful PC and we came up with the idea as two friends of Cory to get him a new powerful PC -- which Tawnia was giving him as a gift. I was trying to get his shipping address. It wasn't in exchange for taking down that video either. Of course, you can bet that Tawnia loathes that is up there. If someone thinks that the narrative of 8Dio suing people who make negative reviews is true, please search for my numerous brutal review posts on 8Dio libraries on this forum (a did an extremely harsh review on a guitar and a Wurli library; they're still there and 8Dio is aware of them and Tawnia is a friend of mine and never even subtly hinted that she wanted me to take those reviews down or edit them; although I admit, I was super harsh and do feel a bit uncomfortable about them,. but they're still there as they were when I originally posted them) . And today when Tawnia and I were crying together on the phone, there was never a moment where she paused and said, "By the way, if you don't take down those hyper critical reviews of our libraries down, I'm going to sue you." Because it's a BS narrative Greene is pushing and Greene knew all this stuff, he knew Cory didn't want him talking about this stuff, and he knew that I was the one that Mario received advice from 13 yrs ago and Mario's story today was BS -- the developer who bought me in still had notes and screenshots that proved what I posted and Troels posted was true. And I have never had any negative conversations with Mario, but he wasn't telling the truth. He and Sarah -- who referred to Tawnia as a phony evil bitch, eventually admitted that neither of them ever met, emailed, PMed or had any interaction with Tawnia but solely based their opinion on what Greene told them. None of them ever even reached out to Cory. Not once. Is this story complex? Yes. If anyone has questions about it or my friend Cory. Ask me. I will tell you the truth.

Basically started with a beat and some ambient synth and vocal textures (all vocs except the really high voice are my voice, not synth/samples), and took off from there. Kind of ambient-beat-rock, I guess? Anyway, I really enjoyed putting this together, and I hope you enjoy listening as well! Be sure to listen through to the end to catch a fun little mash-up, "Who" might it be?? 😉 What we need is love indeed...

  45. You don't need to put a trim plugin on the master, there's already 2 ways to do it: You'll find Input Gain as the built-in equivalent of a "Trim plugin" - that's the entire point of the gain controls, they boost or trim the signal to make it appropriate for the bus or track. They're to get the gain correct for any further work, before it's sent to the track or bus volume control for actual mixing. If you're not planning to run any effects on your master, it's honestly just as easy to turn down the master volume. CbB won't clip internally, so even if your master is peaking out like mad, if you just turn it down, it'll do the same job as dropping track volumes, adjusting the master bus input gain or inserting any other 3rd part trim plugin. It's not ideal and you should adjust your track volumes first, but this will work just fine. There's so much in that video which is either anecdotal, outdated or explained wrong it's not funny, honestly. The biggest thing that I think you're getting tripped up on here is that he's got all of the faders at 0dB and says "hey look, it's clipping the master, let's fix it" ... DER. Of course it's clipping the master, all of the tracks are turned all the way up! So his solution is to drop the gain on each track. OK, fine - that might solve the issue with a certain number of tracks but there's going to come to a point where your gain 1: won't turn the tracks down enough to stop the master from clipping because that might work for 10 tracks but if you have 80 it's going to be entirely different, and 2: is a really bad idea because if you drop your track gain so much that it's quiet enough to not clip your master, it's not going to send the right signal into any track effects... which is the entire point of what the gain control is for. The Track Gain control is to get the signal the correct level before it goes into the track. It is not for mixing with. The track Volume control is. Please, ignore these kinds of videos. The intention might be good and if you're an experienced mixer you can see the value in them, but if you're not used to the way the signal flow works, then it'll seriously trip you up and have you scratching your head wondering why everything isn't working, and then chasing solutions that require plugins to fix stuff. Let me break it down again for you in steps, that if you follow them and don't over-think anything, will get you exactly what you want to do. Start with a clean slate here - imagine you haven't watched a video about this stuff yet and you're going in completely fresh. STEP 1: Record your tracks If you're importing in pre-recorded tracks, jump to Step 2 and ignore this part. 1. Get a decent level on your instrument going into your audio interface. Make sure it's not peaking out into the red. 2. In Cakewalk, insert a new audio track, hit the record arm button and see how your levels look coming in. You want to aim to get them somewhere between -18dB and -6dB. Honestly, so long as it's more than about -18dB on average and not clipping, it's fine. If it's too quiet, turn it up as much as you can on your audio interface. If it's too loud, turn it down on your audio interface. Don't adjust anything on the track in Cakewalk at all yet. 3, Repeat for each track you want to record, then skip to Step 3. STEP 2: Import your tracks If you're not recording your own tracks, follow this step instead of Step 1. 1. Import in each track. Leave your track volumes at 0dB for each one. 2. Have a look at each track's level - none of them should be clipping at all, or there's something set up wrong somewhere. They should be somewhere between -18dB and -6dB ideally. It doesn't matter if they're louder than this, so long as they're not clipping. If they're definitely too quiet, turn the gain control up for that track. If they're running pretty close to peaking out, it's fine but I'd still suggest dropping the gain until you're around the -6dB mark at most. 3. Running all of these tracks together will make your master clip. Don't panic, that's addressed in Step 3. STEP 3: Adjust your track volumes This is actually the part where you mix. The other stuff is track preparation. 1. More than likely, your master is clipping. Start by turning all of your track Volumes down, maybe to -6dB. If your master is still clipping, turn them all down even more until it's not clipping. Note: This is the track Volume control, NOT the track gain controls. Volume controls can go down to silence (-inf) so there's really no lowest level you can drop them to. You might find that all of your tracks are dropped to -24dB before your master doesn't clip, maybe even lower. That's fine. Whatever has to be done, do it. 2. Now, adjust the Volume and Pan of your tracks to get the balance right for your actual mix. If you've given yourself enough headroom by dropping all of your tracks, your master shouldn't be clipping, but if it is, aim to drop all of your tracks again if it's not too much of a pain to do so. It's not the end of the world if not - you can just turn down the Input Gain on your master and that will achieve the same thing, but it's best to get the tracks themselves right. 3. Add in any track effects necessary. Make sure that if you do add in any effect that its output isn't adding in any extra crazy boosts to that track. If it is, turn the effect output down. STEP 4: Master Effects At this point, you should have your mix that is either not clipping your master, or if it is, it won't be by very much and you've turned down the master's Input Gain to compensate. 1. Add any effects to the master bus if you want to add any final processing to your mix overall. If it's now clipping the master, turn down the effect's output. 2. Export your mix. And that's it. So long as your tracks have a reasonable kind of level by using the track gain, and you use the track volume to turn everything way down so it's not clipping your master, you'll have a mix. No "trim plugins" or any crazy "let's get all of the tracks to this EXACT level" mathematics are necessary. The best thing about YouTube is there's a wealth of knowledge out there to help people getting into this type of work. But the worst thing about YouTube is there's a chorus of voices that aren't all necessarily right, or aren't explaining things in the way that beginners can understand. Unfortunately it's hard to tell the good from the bad and it's easy to pick up bad advice that you take onboard is gospel. I know I certainly have been there myself (pre-YouTube, but I learned absolutely dumb advice that I had to unlearn which really hindered my growth as a producer far more often that I'd like to admit). This forum is filled with amazingly knowledgeable people who do this stuff professionally and have won major awards for their work - I'm constantly learning new things from people here. We're all here to help and explain stuff, but you really have to let go of assumptions so you can take the advice onboard. There's nothing worse than fighting with yourself when it comes to learning! You'll get this.

  46. Startship Krupa /Erik Thanks for your tips. I imported Midnight Blue, Racing Green and one other and started modifying Midnight Blue, to gain some understanding of the theming work. Thanks to you and Colleagues (Colin?) for writing an excellent PDF on Theming.. It is coming very handy for knowing what is what -- though I am still not able to reliably figure out everything. I feel like I am making very good progress. I am attaching a Screen Shot below of my Experimental Work in Progress Theme. I have added some annotations on it as well - and you can easily know where there are typos. Progressively I should be able to get things to what suits me best. My main initial goal is to get all the TEXTS - white bold. Looks like Font and Size of Texts cannot be changed. Also many things are Graphics - it has pros/cons. Ability to work with the Themes and Seeing its Effect on Cakewalk is nice, though Cakewalk seems to hold the *.sth file (do not know why) that prevents saving that Theme in the Editor. Wish Cakewalk Theme Panel had a Refresh button, to pull in any changes made. Just a bit of annoyance when you are trying so many items - though functionality complete.
