  2. I think the reason they answered earlier than might have been otherwise reasonable was because of all the comments about the long time between updates. So, they told us the truth. New programs in the pipeline, on release they will continue to have CbB available free with one last release. That release will coexist with Sonar for a time to let you compare the 2 programs. At some point CbB will be no more and only a paid for version of Sonar will be available. As well as NEXT. I too have been around since 12Tone days and 5 years of a fully supported DAW for free has been a remarkable gift from Bandlab. Truly an unexpected surprise back in 2018, Very soon it will be time to pay the piper if you want to use the software. I have no insider knowledge, but I think I have very good comprehension of the written word and can repeat what the Bakers have written in these pages.

  3. Jeff Beck should be up there. That man could play. Most of the stuff he played live was improvised. His ability to coax sounds and emotions from those strings in his hands was magical. His technical ability was beyond question. His live playing was just as good, if not better, than anything he ever recorded. He should be the standard by which others were judged. There is no doubt that Chuck Berry influenced many top name guitarists. And there is no doubt that Sister Rosetta influenced Chuck, and many others. Django should have been up there. Way up there!! Randy Jackson of Zebra could play Zepplin much better than Page ever did live. I watched them play many many clubs in the Nola area when they were starting out. And they play it just like the record, note for note. I have never seen a video of Page doing his own songs as good as I have seen Randy play them. That's not to take anything away from Pages creativity. In that regard he's a genius. Great guitarist.... IDK 'bout that. Agreed. I like the Edge, Some of U2's songs are some of my favs. But Danny was a much better guitarist.

  4. @Sidney Earl Goodroe I understand your concerns, at the moment we just can't give specifics because things aren't totally finalized. I can tell you that as Noel has said elsewhere, the planned pricing model for Sonar will be very reasonable. We have a set target for it that I think most people will be happy with. We simply cannot speak on full details on stuff that requires all the i's dotted and t's crossed. But as its been said, this particular thread is related to the 2023.09 update, so let's try and keep focus there. Thanks!

  7. I’m finding patience is a learned skill. I must first decide to be willing to be patient and that was/is the hardest part. I work very hard in a continuing effort to think before I act. At the most minute level. Far from always able, but more so, the more I make the conscious decision. It's funny but this always brings to mind a "game" I often play and suggest to others. Exactly what position was I in when I woke. Down to the minute again. Not just, on my back, side, or such, but where was each hand and which way was my head facing etc.. No matter how close I come, I find yet another smaller level of uncertainty and the challenge continues. This is an approach I use to help train myself to be more aware and more quickly. Translating that into actions makes me a much more calm person than before. Not that I’m good at it as I also suffer the impatience of the elders being tired of the repeated beatings we each must weather to survive... ...but I/we digress here. No matter what we each feel or say regarding Sonar, only time will tell the story. I am anxious to begin working with the new Sonar having no idea how I will find the cash, I intend to purchase it immediately. It's funny, but I'll feel better working with a paid DAW than I do with the free version of same. There is no real security, but reality has a way of manipulating dreams. I am releasing my 14th solo album this November. The last 11 have all been created entirely in Cakewalk/Pro Audio/Sonar/CbB and I am well underway on my 15th as we chat. Just remembered... back 12 albums. It was made using Cakewalk as a sequencer in sync with a Soundscape Hard Disk Recording System (defunct but I worked for the British company back then in the early 90’s)

  11. Several common issues regarding unplanned MIDI response from Kontakt instruments that you may want to examine: 1. The default setting for many instruments in Kontakt allows for several MIDI messages you may not realize to affect playback. -Generally, unless you want to allow those, I recommend turning off the defaults. In Cakewalk for instance, the most common factor is the CC#7 - Volume response, since the MIDI track volume fader/automation setting will send this every time playback is started. -in Cakewalk there are Preferences - Project - MIDI settings that can also address automatic playback defaults on some of those particular controls, but in those recent versions of Kontakt I find it best to apply the preventive measures here 1st. Then also save & close the project & re-open to apply. -Your mileage may vary. 2. Check your MIDI tracking for any other embedded MIDI commands, and/or see if you have any envelopes assigned, that may be causing changes. 3. Very often even the Kontakt instrument itself can also be set to receive MIDI commands for certain functions, so this and all the other steps here can be related. -In the post context here for instance, CC#11 - Expression will change volume (expressively!) in many instruments by default. Since Kontakt setup can contain any number of variables, and it's not clear from your original post whether the MIDI you are sending from Cakewalk is straightforward (notes only, for instance), the above tips, along with the information @John Vere has posted, is the first line of troubleshooting I would suggest. I hope this helps!

All but the Heritage are prefaced by HRK Tape emus The Heritage is prefaced by a FATSO. But the way Studio One Pipeline is implemented I can easily swap them any way I want to experiment with without having to change a single cable.

I always thought the Pro-channel was unique and set Sonar apart in many ways. Update the tape sims and console emulations, I'm sure they have many plans.

  21. Kirk Hammett is the very first person I think of when I thing of awful vibrato and indecisive bends. He gives me tooth aches every time I hear him. Within the confines of the genre, he is one of the worse guitar players I can think of. James Hetfield is a much better lead guitarist (and he certainly is in my top 5 for rhythm guitar). Although that's not saying much. As a member of Metallica, Kirk was a hero of mine, and he seems like a really cool dude. But he sucks. He may an underrated rhythm guitar player though, seeing how he has to follow Hetfield. But even just within that top 50 - Hammett before Vernon Reid? James Burton? Brian May? Zappa? Frusciante? David Gilmour? Kamawn!!!! And where's Alex Lifeson?!

  30. Just got to check this out, and being a plugin this has another advantage over editing suites in that you can use it and leave it enabled while tracking. Although it will still embed that noise into the recorded audio, it alleviates all of the distraction issues while tracking. This is definitely something worth having in one's toolbox. The 64-bit version from the OP has a much better resolution in the spectrogram than in that video teaser. This is also why I harp to some folks on pre/post rolls while tracking with non-optimal setups... without that background noise totally exposed, it is incredibly difficult to address in post production.

  35. I also hadn't heard of them before either, but the sounds are nice. Orchid seems to have a lot of Mellotron, OP-Xa, Mini, Modular and a few Jup-8 and Jun-6 presets. I also downloaded their free Analog Lab banks (6 in total, look under "Free Downloads" - https://audiojuice.co/collections/free-downloads) and they are also good, they mostly use Pigments from what I saw, also quite a few Mellotron, but many of the others as well.

  37. I'm surprised how little people talk about this company. I wonder why that is?

  38. I had Iron 1 from a previous bundle. Upgrade to 2 was (and still is) $50. Maybe worth a look now.

  39. I can see we’re it might be a nice tool to have. I have his LU and VU meters which I’m sure would do the same thing, but for a $1.50 I’ll try it out!

  42. I wouldn't attribute the change to the population, but to technology. A larger world population would actually translate into increased sales revenue if all other things were equal, not less. The change that led us to this situation is technology what strategists call digital disruption, in this case. First, it was Napster, then Apple (iTunes) then Spotify, etc. that caused the public to transition from buying physical product like CDs to either buying or pirating digital product online. I knew the head of marketing for Napster back in the 00s, just after they changed their model from piracy to paid MP3s, and we had some interesting chats that probably would have made for a good book. So the public (that wasn't engaged in piracy) went from paying for physical product to paying for digital product to streaming services (of course, there are small numbers of Boomers and Gen X that still will buy CDs, but it's a very small percentage of the total market and most households (over 60%) in the US do pay a monthly subscription fee to a music streaming service. But that revenue model really only provides enough to make a good living on if your music gets a very very high number of streams. I know someone through a friend who had a hit I loved in the 80s and a lot of us here might recognize it, but he doesn't make enough annually to buy a used economy car from his streaming royalties and is a director with Meta today, handling music. But that's the reality. The streaming model only creates significant revenue for artists with a very high volume of plays. So it's extremely difficult for an artist that doesn't have mass appeal to make it in the current world beyond working their tails off doing live shows. Whereas a couple of decades ago or more, artists made most of their money from record sales and toured to promote record sales. Today, most artists make the majority of their income from live shows and I love live music and that was what I did back when. But it makes it extremely difficult for the next very creative non-commercial artist to make a living from music. It's not an environment where you could see the next Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Radiohead, etc. succeeding and I wish that wasn't the case.

  43. I’m not going to do it but I would like to see the video someday. The sound the Beatles got on all of their albums was so far ahead of the time. I still think Abbey Road is the best sounding recording ever made and they made it with the 12345 and a j37! Incredible!

  44. Man, I hate seeing talented devs go under. It actually compelled me to advise a bunch of small devs at no cost in return for them giving free NFRs to low income musicians (something I didn’t publicly share back then because I was already too busy with paid work and didn’t want everyone calling me). It's tough for indie devs to make it, even if they're really talented, they need to know how to successfully run a business and its rare for one person to be great at both things.
