  1. ^^ this. We really need a FAQ about this so it doesn't come up every 3 minutes and we spend 4 pages going over it once again. 😕 Please... let's not dwell on this (again), but to set the record straight before it starts to spiral off, the facts are these: Gibson owned the Cakewalk company. Gibson closed down the Cakewalk company. Any deals or debts or business you had with the Cakewalk company died when Gibson shut it down, including those ill-fated Lifetime Deals. Bandlab bought the plans to make the SONAR DAW, and all of the rights to use the name, images, etc. That's it. They didn't inherit any financial debts or assets from the Cakewalk company; that is dead and gone. It's a new company that just bought the plans to make the software. Despite the names being similar, and it being functionally similar, and the staff that was fired by Gibson being re-hired by Bandlab to continue work on this DAW, it is not the product sold to you by the Cakewalk company that was shut down by Gibson. It's a new product made with the plans purchased from Gibson. They opted to make this previously paid product free for 5 years, basically giving everyone who had the rug pulled out from them by Gibson with no notice a lifeline. Additionally, despite not getting anything from it, Bandlab hosts our old paid Cakewalk products on their servers, and allows the previously locked add-ons to be used with their current DAW. Not a bad deal for those of us burned by Gibson's decision, I think. It's now once again transitioning into a paid product, owned by Bandlab. Despite the similar name, this is not SONAR by Cakewalk, Inc. and has nothing to do with those previous offers from Gibson. This has been repeated quite a few times on the forum now as I said, and it always ends up as a multi-page disaster area. Please let this die here. This thread was about the number of users CbB has, so let's get back onto track if we can.

  4. Some anecdotal data. Back in the SONAR days in 2015-2017, you may be surprised to know that despite having the annual membership option, the monthly memberships were by far the most popular choice for our users despite being more expensive overall if you paid month to month. Even though that might not be the popular choice for many people on this forum, there are many who prefer to pay a smaller monthly fee because it lets them manage their finances better. Payment choices are good for everyone.

  5. So here is the last track we are releasing off our Indelible Stain album - The track is called Perfect World. We have to finish this album now, as our new Album, Kiss of Storms, is out in October!! Firstly, I really want to thank everyone on this forum, for the help and support over the years – I can’t begin the explain how helpful that has been, so once again, thanks so much. Now to Perfect World. I originally wrote this in 2010, but although I really liked the lyrics, I could never nail the music. So I kept the lyric and started music wise from scratch. Considering how long ago I wrote this, the lyrics sort of resonate with the World we have had to suffer the last few yearsJ Hope you enjoy it. You can see the lyrics here https://devinelie.com/indelible-stain/perfect-world-ll/ And the whole album is available on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/album/43IS1UScScZbhzNrfVaB8a We’ve updated our website as well – we’ve got our own store now where you can get music and merchandise!! https://devinelie.com

  6. Why is it so hard to understand that lifetime upgrades doesn't mean your lifetime? Why is it so hard to understand that the new owners didn't make that commitment? Go cry to the company that did. Oh, wait ... So in other words, BandLab has bent over backwards in demonstrating goodwill even though they have no obligation to do that. Not very clear thinking. I'm really disappointed, man. I thought you were a lot smarter than this but you're sounding just like all the other entitlement-mentality crybabies who can't let it go.

  9. You could also argue people who sell each version of an outright purchase "hide behind" the next version coming out and development stopping on a previous version too. That argument is flawed because development can't be stalled on a single release or you'll never get any new development to compete against other software in the same product space, and there's no way to possibly know if every bug is fixed. The Bakers are very transparent compared to a lot of companies where they'll mention that a bug discovered was something that existed in SONAR X3 and carried on unnoticed until now. Should they then go back 14 years and fix that bug in X3, which they no longer sell or pull income from? Will they stay in business if they keep having to do that? There is a VAST amount of quality control that goes into any software this complex. Internal testing, automated testing, beta testing and even public Early Access testing. The idea that every bug can be caught even with literally thousands of eyes on it is still not realistic. @heath row is also correct too, quite a lot of EULAs mention licenses can be revoked. Nobody ever reads them of course. The FUD loop cycle is starting again, with the same replies reiterating what's already been said multiple times in this thread, and then the same concerns brought up again. I think we're done here. I do want to thank everyone for being mostly civil despite the heated topic, and I think it's fair everyone has concerns and opinions - it's all valid, but ultimately nothing can be answered for now, and the speculation is fairly pointless. Going to lock this one. Cheers, all.

  10. I've purchased a couple of items directly from them and got a Thank you coupon only for the first one. I thought that for a purchase where you use a Thank you coupon you don't get another Thank you coupon. I did ask support about the discount for Creative Edition if already owning Polymax (which I got at Knobcloud, from another member of this forum, not from UAD). They sent me a $200 voucher, which could be stacked with the pultec code, a nice total of $49+tax for the upgrade to the full Creative Edition bundle 🙂

  11. https://www.jrrshop.com/rob-papen-rg RG is a unique groove plug-in that is far more than just a "virtual Rhythm Guitar player! New released RG 1.5 included 'Muted Guitar' model. By using the RG onboard sequencer it is possible to create classic Rhythm Guitar grooves, but beyond that you can use the synthesizer features and effects to make fresh new edgy guitar grooves. To play the grooves RG is using a keyboard layout of "major chords" and "minor chords", each with two sequence patterns (A or B) option. It is only a matter of hitting a single note in the major keyboard range or minor keyboard range and the groove plays. The sound sets are clean sampled guitars, which gives you great freedom and flexibility when using the synthesizer features and effects of RG. RG 1.5 Guitar types included are: - The classic Fender Stratocaster ? electric guitar (major and minor7 chords) - A 8th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar (major and minor chords) - A 16th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar (major and minor chords) - A Power Chord groove type Distorted guitar ( 5ths chords / absense of 3rd) - Muted Low and Muted High groove type guitar (single notes / no chords) The synthesizer parts of RG include a classic analog modelled synthesizer filter, LFO, envelopes and modulation section. The effect section can be built up by using up to 3 effects at a time. Included are midi time-based delays, chorus and also speaker simulators, phaser, flanger and many more. Included are over 1000 presets included 850 "RG" grooves and 300 "basic" grooves.

  13. Dissenting opinion from a long time virtual guitar user. I thought some of the demos sounded kind of okay and others sounded pretty bad. The recordings of guitar sounded badly recorded -- or the effects made it sound that way -- and some of the strumming sounded very unauthentic, even though it claimed to use recordings of a real guitar some of the strumming sounded very poor and clunky. I would suggest that if anyone is looking for sampled strumming, NI's Session Guitarist line is a far better choice and goes on sake for around $50 USD during NI'S major sales. If you're willing to put in the time, you can do any kind of strum you want with Orange Tree Samples Evolution libraries (disclosure: I've consulted to them and had a good deal of input on the initial Evolution line). Even though I'm not crazy about their design, UJAM's series is also far superior to this as is a strummer from Wavesfactory (I can't recall the name, but it may be strum) or Pettinhouse libraries. When I listened to some of the demos, the recording quality of the guitar reminded me of the first version of Music Lab's RealGuitar, which significantly improved the sample quality since then (this was two decades ago) and would also be a far superior alternative to this plugin, IMO. Anyhow, there are a good deal of superior alternatives to this. Not necessarily at the $17 USD price point, but candidly, I don't think what I've heard would make that worth it either. It's better to spend more to get something that actually sounds good.

  14. This is a completely natural phenomenon when, in older versions of even the same program, new projects are harder and slower, because the purpose of updates is to refine old versions, optimize the consumption of system resources, etc. The program, at its core, remains the same, it’s just now more powerful, more flexible and more “packed” with modern tools for music production, and it’s completely logical that in the old version of Sonar, all these new features cannot work as easily as in older versions.

  15. If you have been a long time buyer of plugins you need to get over it when others pay much less otherwise you'll get an ulcer right away (e.g., don't ask me how much I paid for Waves, Plugin Alliance, etc. a few years ago...) E.g., I'm very happy with the upgrade price, but I already had Opal (which I got for $50). If you got polymax for free and then upgraded, you actually got it for a cheaper total cost.

  17. Thanks! I was looking at this because there was a Muted Guitar (I think) by Rob Papen in the Computer Music freebies that was actually pretty good and it put this dev on my radar. I listened to the demos on this and am sold. It will definitely be fun to play around with.

  18. For us newbies to UAD yes, but I do wonder what some of the long time customers think about it knowing the premiums they paid and how that could affect their loyalty! I paid $99 for the Creative bundle, so essentially double, not factoring in the price if someone need to buy Polymax. But I love seeing someone get a win and even though I paid more, I still think it was a pretty reasonable price 🙂

  19. You could do this by setting the track output to an Aux track and putting your effects on the Aux track, but setting up sends on your source audio track. It still requires 2 tracks, but at least you don't have to duplicate the audio or any work you do on it. So you'd do it like this: On your source audio track, set the Output of that track to go to a New Aux track. On your source audio track, insert a Send to your hardware outputs that feed your analogue effects On the Aux track, load in all of your plugins that you want to your FX Bin. Set the Output of your Aux track to wherever you want the mix to go next (eg: Master bus) And then if you want your analogue effects to come back in as well, you'd need to set up a track with its Input set to the analogue effects output, and enable Input Echo to listen to that in realtime (which I probably wouldn't recommend because of latency sync) If you want to get a little more fancy with playing back live analogue effects and have this in time, you'd want to use the External Insert plugin and set these tracks up a little differently. Here's the signal path: http://static.cakewalk.com/documentation/SONAR/EN/images/Mixing.07.1.png So all of the sends come after the FX Bin, which means this can't be done currently on a single track. The best thing is that after you have this set up once, there's no reason you couldn't save this as a Track Template and drop it in whenever you need to do this kind of routing. It'd be about as quick as just inserting a single track in the end.

  22. 180 days, and I've rekindled some conversations about that recently and will share any news that comes out of that. There have been some recent changes like the TONEX Pedal transferring the bonus software (AT5) and the TONEX MAX software (since it functions as the librarian and carries a lot of Premium Tone Models) so I'm optimistic we can keep moving in the right direction.

  23. [UPDATE 19-Oct-2023: Cakewalk 2023.09 Update 1 (build 29.09.0.075) now available] We're pleased to announce the 2023.09 release! This release is primarily a maintenance release and includes over 60 bug fixes for user reported issues. Please note: Version 2023.09 will likely be the last update to Cakewalk by BandLab (CbB). CbB will eventually be discontinued as future development and support will transition to the upcoming Cakewalk Sonar release. All Cakewalk products require activation. Changes to the activation server require that all earlier versions of Cakewalk by BandLab must be updated to version 2023.09 in order to activate successfully. If you wish to continue to use CbB, you must update to the 2023.09 version. Earlier versions will cease to activate in the future. BandLab Assistant is no longer used for installing or activating CbB or other Cakewalk products. You must use in-app activation as described below. You can continue to use BandLab Assistant, but not for Cakewalk products. In order to activate CbB, you must sign in to your BandLab account by choosing Help > Sign In to BandLab. When the sign-in web page opens, enter your BandLab credentials to sign in from there. If activation was successful, you will receive a "Cakewalk is fully activated" confirmation message. Note: Opening a web browser to independently sign in to BandLab will not activate Cakewalk. Version 2023.09 currently does not support offline activation, so your computer must be online to activate it. Offline activation will be available soon. In order to automatically keep your activation status up to date, Cakewalk will renew your activation status whenever a new version of the application is installed and run for the first time, and when you sign in to BandLab from within Cakewalk. If you have never signed in to BandLab from within Cakewalk, you will be prompted once to sign in. Thanks, The Bakers To download and install the 2023.09 update, select Help > Check for Updates from within the app. Note: Because earlier versions of Cakewalk can no longer be activated, there is no rollback installer available for the 2023.09 release. 29. Ozone 8 (if that's the version the OP is using) has a weird issue with the VST UI and screen resolution. the problem is the Ozone VST UI has to have a very specific resolution (i think it was 1920x1080) and anything outside of that (e.g. 1920x1200) the performance was horrible. it was fixed with a later version (Ozone 9).

  33. I suspected the pricing was a glitch (either that or they were allocated a limited number to sell at that price) and that all of these sales will sooner than later evaporate. Some of the voicings/patches are crap but I like a couple (like the steel string acoustic strumming) enough that I thought it was worth picking up and so I grabbed a copy after seeing Walter's post. @PavlovsCat raises some good points though I strongly disagree with at least couple of his choices. But as they say YMMV, what works for me may not work as well for you.

This is another problem that many customers have Here my 2 cents @Peter - IK Multimedia please, take this scenario into account to speak internally Customers who have paid for the library in the past (like me), cannot see the promotion to re-purchase the product. I understand that we cannot re-purchase the product again to receive a new serial, but it would be nice, to have the possibility of reactivating it with the promotion, and being able to download and install it again I don't understand the penalty to customers of this product. It does not make any sense

  45. Tim I understand. Just like it when "we" have the "choice" whether to buy the new version year after year. Don't mean or try to be a jerk. But my DAW is for my home use as I said. For me. I love CW, as previously stated. But there are some business decisions I do not like and never did. As far as buying the new versions I only did because I wanted to, I didn't have to. The bugs that afflicted many, way back, beginning of Sonar, never affected me. Probably because I never used the program to it's full potential. I am hoping that CW(Sonar, whatever they want to call it) allows me the "choice." That's all! Be Well

  49. Just to be pedantic, none of us own any software anyway. We're given a license to use it (EULA) but that's all. Those license terms are agreed upon when we install it. We *are* starting to dip into a {FUD/explanation/understanding} (repeat) loop now though, and I think we're starting to get close to this thread running its course. I'm not too sure what else there is to say about this until there's any official announcement.

  50. So take some advice from an old man with a storied history of scoring to picture...and I've done the lion's share in Cakewalk. Cakewalk's capabilities for scoring as they stand are fine, more than fine. People will argue with me about this, but I have the royalty checks and I don't need to debate this the slightest. If you want to make $ scoring to picture, you need to be prepared to do some editing. Just a fact. So get a simple video editing program and learn the basics. It might just save your life. No matter what DAW you use, there are formats and codecs that work better in that DAW. Editors and clients will send you all different formats. Find what works best and render every cut you get in your DAW's preferred format. When you have a sample to send back to the client for approval, or you want to create a video...do it using the video app not the DAW. I've outputted video files from Cubase, CbB and ProTools. Sometimes the client can view them, sometimes not. When i export out of my video app there is never a problem. CbB renders audio files quickly and more efficiently than video. You want the picture to start later? Slide it in your video app to where you want it to start. I'll admit, this feature is available in Cubase and other DAW's, but that is the only small advantage. And I would warn you not to do that in the DAW. Spend a thousand hours working under deadlines and you will find out why. OLD MAN RANT! PS. Want to look like a pro? When sending samples to clients for approval, put your name and version number on a title card at the start of your video. Include Time code for referencing...that is all
