I leave for the Big Apple in the morning! I've never been there so I'm looking forward to seeing it! Staying in Midtown, and doing a bus tour, and a Liberty Cruise, then dinner at Hard Rock on 7th, and then seeing a Broadway show after dinner! I board a ship in Brooklyn Sunday morning for a 9 day cruise! Needless to say, I'm pretty excited (and terrified LOL)20 points

I use a lot of different DAWs. They all have bugs. Windows has bugs. MacOS has bugs. More complex programs have more bugs than simpler programs. Books have typos. Movies have continuity problems. Doctors misdiagnose. NASA lost the Mars Climate Orbiter in 1999 because of a miscalculation translating between metric and imperial units of measurement. And I wouldn't get into a self-driving Tesla, if you know what I mean. Although a lot of people claim to have come up with the phrase "the grass is always greener where you water it," the phrase originated with Robert Fulghum: “The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. No, not at all. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be.” I don't have problems with DAWs because I live within their limitations, which all DAWs have. There will never be a perfect DAW, so the goal is to work with the one that best fits your needs. But also remember the words of Erma Bombeck: "The grass is always greener over the septic tank."14 points

Just to clarify in case some people are confused with all the FUD, what we just released was a good faith early access update for users of CbB, just because of the long wait since its last release. It is NOT Sonar which is a different version that we will release later (most likely as a public beta initially). The implication that this early access was rushed is doesn't make sense. This update has a very small set of changes that were made over a period of almost a year and have been widely tested internally and by beta testers. In my experience most problems that get reported with any new release tend to be either environmental or issues that are preexisting and completely unrelated to the new release. If there happen to be any NEW problems report them in the EA channel and we'll investigate them.9 points

Why all this pointless speculation? Wait until Sonar is released and make your decision whether to buy or not based on the information given at that time. Until then, so many posts here are just uninformed guessing and spreading of FUD.9 points

I'm glad I jumped on it when I did. No reason for anyone to feel bad about getting a deal. Izotope has made plenty of money on me. I paid $150 for Breaktweaker only to see it discounted 6 months later for $50. Nowadays, you can get it as low as $9. And that's just one example. I've overpaid Izotope on a few upgrades, only to find out that I could have gotten it cheaper by getting the advanced version of the product included with other products in production bundles like this for cheaper than my upgrade price. You win some, you lose some.9 points

Regarding bugs: in my experience, if a software is well designed, the difference is made by the support team: when things go wrong, it's up to them to give help. Regarding CW, at least in my experience, the support is outstanding.8 points

I think you are reading too much into it. There is no timeline to phase it out currently so it will be around awhile. No need to be concerned, users will be given plenty of time to make up their minds whether the new Sonar is for them. 6 months is just the standard reactivation period that has been in place since the start. That said, for anyone using CbB regularly it seems like it would be a no brainer to upgrade to a product that will be supported and receive updates, instead of using an older unsupported version. Hopefully the new features and the cool new UI will be exciting to most users. The reactivation requirement is for multiple reasons - Cbb/Sonar/Next are all connected apps that integrate with the BandLab ecosystem. There are often backend changes, that require cached state to be refreshed to work properly, not very different from the reason digital certificates and cookies expire. Additionally, these changes require us to change the application to continue to work properly, which is why we occasionally need to do updates that in turn refresh activation. The other reason is to ensure that for support purposes we have users running on the latest versions.8 points

I can vouch for that as well. A few years back I had a strange graphical issue and Noel contacted me to do a Zoom session. After we spent some time troubleshooting, he identified the problem, gave me access to a patch and then rolled the patch into the next release. It doesn't get any better than that.7 points

Here’s what Uncle E from JRR posted about the issue @kvr today: “ We put it up exactly as IZotope told us to put it up. There is no official word yet about what’s happening but our IZotope rep basically said it’s gone. If you had a license automatically issued after checkout, you’re fine. If there was no license issues at checkout, it means we will most likely have to refund you.”7 points

It seems the trend is pricing errors. Buy it for instant gratification, they remove it and expect your instant gratification will be willing to pay the higher price. This is happening way too much to be considered mistakes.6 points

SONAR went from SONAR 1-8 to SONAR X1-3 to SONAR Platinum, all being new versions of the application with new features. This is no different in that regard. There's a lot of additional work that is currently going into Sonar that is not currently in Cakewalk by BandLab which absolutely constitutes it as a new version of the app.5 points
-
I certainly don't feel that way. I got over the Gibson debacle the day after they announced their intention to throw us to the wolves, fully prepared to stick with Splat or move to a new platform if it no longer worked. Which of course never happened. Certainly Bandlab don't owe us anything, thy can only be commended up to this point.4 points

Most X.0 programs have an X.0.1 release shortly thereafter. Cakewalk has a history of introducing hotfixes when needed. I can personally vouch for that - several years ago I alerted Noel to a problem no one else caught, and there was a public hotfix in a week. So...yes, you have 6 months to decide if you want to go to the new Sonar, but that also means you have 6 months where you can chill and check out a somewhat later version with bug fixes. You don't have to use the very first release, you can wait for one or two "point" updates if they're needed, and see how things unfold. I look forward to seeing what the Bakers come up with. I'm encouraged that it's not being rushed to market.4 points

I get a kick out of people who are given a DAW for free that on the market right now would have been $400-$?? ( go look at the prices of competing DAW's ) and then start complaining 'cuase the company has been working hard to make it as good as possible, is now ready to sell it, And.. at a reasonable price point yet! Reading this thread I see, thank goodness, most people "get it". The complainers are the people who think a bug is when things don't work right in the software. I've read a lot of those threads here like that and it seems to me it is almost 99% user error because they haven't taken the time to actually learn about the software. Seems the people who do learn about the software never complain and never have to ask dumb questions, and they also don't scream "bug" all the time. I've had to learn how to use a few new programs over the last few years, Cakewalk included, and there is endless help including both documents, videos and this forum. It is a slow process to get up to speed especially with complicated software. I don't know 10% of what Microsoft Word can do but I've used it almost everyday for 30? years. The information the Boss has shared with us in the OP and mid thread, is very good news and I'm personally looking forward to seeing what Next or Sonar will be like. Sign me up. I like what someone said about we spend a lot on money on plug ins why not the DAW--Hmm, I haven't actually spent much money on plug ins so paying for a DAW is well with in my small budget. That's what Gig money is for.4 points

My son (7 yo) is quite musical: he plays recorder well, he's had violin lessons, plays ukelele a little, picked up my bass guitar (and naturally played a bit like Lemmy!) and is often whistling and singing. I have a Hawkwind CD in the car for me to listen to, and he wanted to listen to it. He's now decided that a 1979 song of theirs (Shot Down In The Night) is his favourite song and he has already learned the words and wants to sing it all the time (or with me accompanying on guitar). I feel my work is done :-)3 points

Since I am a fan of delays, I just had to give this a quick try. Some preliminary observations/opinions. Despite the Paypal "Buy now, Pay later" notice The download was instant. It didn't need an account or an e-mail link. It didn't need to be activated. It does indeed seem to be free. About the physical modeling (spiraling delay) I needed headphone. It does sound like much more is going on than simple ping-pong delay. Other The UI is simple, but functional. (You won't need a manual!) Malware Bytes and Windows Defender detected no issues (zip and unzipped). I did a simple test of the vst3 in Voltage Modular. (I did not rescan CbB yet.) Controllable Parameters are: Rotation Speed, Decay, Time, Beats, Time Mode, Stereo Amount, FIlter Frequency, Filter Width, Dry/Wet, Bypass. Most of the parameters show changes in the Plug-in's UI.3 points

Nobody can say for sure what will happen with YOUR system. Every user case is different to the next. But I updated to the EA on the first day it was available and haven't noticed a single thing wrong with it. You WILL need to update it at some point because the existing servers which CbB use to refresh your activation will no longer be online. The way I see it, you have a choice of 4 courses of action: Update to the final release and use that. This will mean no more updates or bug fixes Upgrade to Sonar when it becomes available Revert to using X2/X3/Platinum Don't do any of the above and stop using it after a period of (max) 6 months.3 points

Installed! Edit: Takes a bit... It's now up and running but at still 'Loading Products'... Dang it's taking 30% of my CPU and killing my Internet bandwidth... Not seeing anything in the change log that was affecting me but always good to have the latest (usually). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Changes: 3.5.2 - 2023-09-07 Quick hotfix to address a case where a security rollout was unsupported by our NTK Daemon, blocking users from logging in. FIXED Addressed an issue where a security rollout caused users to be blocked from logging into Native Access Updated error message to link to knowledge base article for more information.3 points

As I had stated YMMV... I indeed was way underwhelmed with its 'gazillion features'. But if you find it extremely useful then more power to you, hope it serves you well. If anyone loves the Lite version and thinks the additional features are worth the additional $15 then go for it. Don't let me or anyone else hold you back.3 points

I think the price point will make a difference in how it is received. Since @Noel Borthwick stated that it will be 'very affordable', makes it reassuring. We all love a free DAW but a very affordable one will be good enough I am sure. We all (mostly all?) have a budget for plugins, and probably many we do not really use, why would it be such a pain to pay some fair amount for a DAW that we love working with? And let's be honest, all software have some level of bugs or functions not working has we would like, even those that come at hefty price. Software is always a work in progress.3 points

These aren't even the same thing. Did you not notice the Mod & Wear modules in the Lifeline Console plugin? It's a multi-effect that can do significant (or subtle) signal degradation / lofi tape / vinyl / cassette effects, pitch modulation and could easily be categorized under "sound design". It has more in common with RC-20, and is basically a fill-in-gaps partner to their Lifeline Expanse plugin which does reamping, speaker emulation, reverb, imaging, more extensive distortion / saturation. No way you've used InfinitStrip Wind and Console and thought "ya, these are comparable". Lol. And no way you used Console and thought "doesn't have enough of anything for me". That plugin has a gazillion features that are totally useable in countless contexts. Although, perhaps you didn't like the sound of it, which is understandable. But imo, it's an extremely useful plugin.2 points

I was playing around with GR7 today. Clicked on the presets, looked at the pane on the left and realized I had no clue about what to look for, and wasn't really sure I wanted to sift through a bunch of bs.... but a "Clean" tag caught my eye. I clicked it and that brought up some presets at the bottom.of the left pane. One of the first few was a preset named "Michael's Favorite " or something close to that. I clicked on it because my name is Michael! Anyway, it sounded really good, clean and rich. Clicked on a few more and they all sounded great. I spent a good part of an hour and a half and only went through 4-5 presets!! Yep... this might be a keeper.2 points

Glad you like it! Hornet doesn't have really fancy UIs and aren't expensive, so lots of people overlook them. But he has some hidden gems and they're normally really light on CPU. The other one that surprised me recently was Multicomp Plus MK2. It has a number of compressor styles and emulations and some sounded great. It has (VCA, FET, OPTO, Console4K, VCA160) and one expander. Their Tape is light on resources and not bad either, Analog Stake is great. SW34EQ looks somewhat like a toy, but it's actually quite a nice sounding EQ. I even like TotalEQ too. Prices are great and no stupid copy protections. That's why I always try and support him :)2 points

Not many jazz heads here I know but found this little gem, some of you might enjoy it. Tony is one of my top 10 fav drummers, here's an interesting lineup of Lifetime. Rare footage I've never seen before w/John McLaughlin, Larry Young and Jack Bruce. (Also cool hearing a bit of John's 'Dance of the Maya' pre Mahavishnu Orchestra release..)2 points

I have no issue with how he does business. He must be content and doesn't send out emails about buying him a cup of coffee. No crying poor. He seems content in how he does things. I like that he is making more videos. He also allows honest reviews. There's too much to like about this developer.2 points
