Already finished my first gig for today. Played the state fair, spent my earnings on an overpriced sandwich and came home. Next up: get back into Friday afternoon traffic for a two-hour drive to tonight's gig on Camano Island. Normally, it's 45 minutes, but Friday afternoons it's bumper-to-bumper all the way. Yeh, it's thankless work, bringing culture to the masses. But it's my mission.3 points

A short piece with piano and strings. Any thoughts on how to tame some of the piano transients? Some of them are very sharp, and when I listen on my phone I find it overloads the little speaker. I don't want to squash the dynamic range, but I find I can't add anymore than a dB or so of compression with hating the sound of it. Update - it took me a while to get back to this, since I was traveling last week. I think a combination of narrow eq's to target some of the piano resonances along with some active eq using the really cool (and free!) TDR Nova has helped a lot.2 points

Basically what you want doesn't exist outside of the software you seem to like using. Why not just use that? And in my world still the best way to learn to sing is to take vocal lessons that will teach you how to control your voice. Singing along with pre recorded vocals will not help you improve much. And looking at pitch is not a very good idea. You need to learn how to Hear pitch. You should have your eyes closed and concentrate on not just pitch but timber and vibrato and all the other things that make your voice what it is. You do the voice training lessons and then practice songs that are suitable to your voice. I can sing over 300 songs. There are defiantly more songs I cannot sing than ones I can. Of course you can learn to sing without proper training too, but that takes longer and you might develop bad habits. There's a lot of real good videos on singing most are free. If the first thing they don't teach you is breathing, move on to the next one.2 points

Very cool. The 3d feel for the video is accentuated by the position of instruments in the mix. Good job.2 points

Holy crap, was I beat when my head finally hit the pillow early this morning. Yesterday was a record-breaking 3-Mocha day. That's three Starbucks Iced Mochas in one day. I should have been bouncing of the walls, as I normally don't drink caffeine. We've really been gigging too much this summer, I think. The band's pretty tight now, but we're at that stage where it's all becoming rote muscle-memory. I'll catch my mind wandering mid-song, admiring a hot waitress, wondering if the forecast rain will hold off until after loadout, how I should feel about Pell grant recipients getting a $20,000 break on college tuition, and whether another Chernobyl-class nuclear disaster might be imminent. And then a brief panic when I suddenly realize that a) I've forgotten what song we were playing, b) I think I'm supposed to be soloing now, and c) how come we don't have a single jam in Am? I'll have to bring that up at next rehearsal.2 points

I've been using version 2 and it seems much better so far. This is a case where developers keep prices set higher on some things and miss sales. If Mastering With The Mix ever discounted the upgrade to V2 I would've bought it. The upgrade has never been on sale. But their sale price of the full version at the resellers was really not far off the upgrade price. Not the best way to reward loyalty, especially if you own most of their plugins. In saying that, pretty happy I didn't buy it and snagged it for free instead, it's a good one ?2 points

Enjoyed the track. But Am I the only one that feels the kick is really dominating the track? It just doesn't sound like its in the same room as the snare or anything else. Could be its just me... t from YouTube "been working on making some high gain amps for MTurboamp" Chandler does a lot of demo vids for Melda, evidently he is putting together some presets.2 points

From an old hardrive, I found this old internet collab project from 2003. I'm still away from my studio for a while so it's remixed on my laptop (with cheap headphones so beware!) -Hope you enjoy it.1 point

Like it myself especially on my laptop. I'll definitely be checking it out when it releases.1 point

I would like to notice a couple of things for anyone interested. The offer is actually a paid DLC pack for the game that includes some cosmetics. The base videogame has been free to play for a while now (not the DLCs though). Also for anyone interested in playing the game but don't want or can't afford 110Gb of disk or download (or the battleeye sh*t), the game can be played directly on Geforce NOW (free cloud gaming service). Just be sure to activate "Adaptative Sync" in the geforce now program options for the best experience.1 point

I wonder if version 10 will drop soon. They've been working on it for a long time.1 point

You just made me remember that I played "Descent: Freespace" back in the day. Not the same, I understand, but the GOG page for Descent had a link to that one! I have Freespace 2 in my GOG library. Picked it up on sale at some point. Need to give it some attention! https://www.gog.com/en/game/freespace_21 point

Very cool. Haven't heard the original, but I enjoyed the listen. Great guitar work, paired with some versatile vocals!1 point

Nice. Despite the pedal bass note throughout, it never feels old. Also the sparing use of the low bass guitar note keeps it always feeling a little ominous. Well done.1 point

No, probably not; just wanted to put my $.02 in for the record. Yes, I've done other button changes/swaps for myself. I probably won't bother with the Read button because I almost never touch it and it's already pretty unobtrusive when 'lit'.1 point

Yes, a Patch Point is essentially just a stereo 'pipe' that any track can use as a destination or a source. Some confusion may arise because creating an Aux track automatically creates a Patch Point with the same name assigned as Input to the track, but the two objects are really independent of each other.1 point
-
Same here. I feel that way with Cubase. I tend to like DAWs that only take a click to start working.1 point
-
No, they have become my GOTO for most things ToonTrack. I was referring to the ROCK! EZX. BTW, 6 packs are $83 (well two days ago) Last time I bought they were $89. (Euro vs USD?) t about what its worth, IMHO (or not so humble opinion...)1 point
-
The Patch Points that connect sends/outputs to Aux tracks are inherently stereo, and selecting which part of the stereo Patch Point signal to use as input to an Aux track does not affect the channelization of the source(s). This allows, for example, sending/outputting a stereo track to Patch Point, sending/outputting a mono track to the left side of that same Patch Point and another mono track to the right side, and then having any number of Aux tracks receiving one or both sides of that stereo signal as needed. The sources and destinations can 'do what they want' without affecting each other.1 point

Try using the ACT control surface rather than the generic one, you can then easily use ACT Learn for controlling plugins. I posted the instructions earlier this week here:1 point

I agree with the above comments. It does have Sgt. Pepper quality to it. It is complex but certainly in the negative sense. Great performance, recording, mix, etc. Your harmonies were indeed excellent. This was indeed a listening pleasure!1 point

Thanks, Simon. Just did that but no change. I've sent in this question to Waves and will report back what they say in case someone else has this problem.1 point

Steve , I agree with Paul 100%. That was a Fantastic production in every aspect. I Really enjoyed the Beatle ish feel of this especially the basslines. Enjoyed it .. mark1 point

If you are an APD customer and want Syntronik 2, check your e-mail for a LOYALTY Code. By my math, that $5.00 more of a discount than the going-back-to-school code! $79.99 - $17.00 = $62.99!1 point

I updated the FX, PDC and 2x buttons in my themes Lead, Gran Vista and Carbon in November last year in such a way. The picture below shows the first two buttons in themes Gran Vista and Lead respectively before and after the change. The 2x button was changed in a similar way (not shown in this image). As for the default PDC button being confusing, Noel actually agreed that it was in a recent post.1 point

I use a 32" 2k monitor (2560 x 1440) and its a great size to have lots on the screen but still easily readable. It is also a great size to have studio monitors on each side if that is you setup.1 point
