  3. Already finished my first gig for today. Played the state fair, spent my earnings on an overpriced sandwich and came home. Next up: get back into Friday afternoon traffic for a two-hour drive to tonight's gig on Camano Island. Normally, it's 45 minutes, but Friday afternoons it's bumper-to-bumper all the way. Yeh, it's thankless work, bringing culture to the masses. But it's my mission.

  4. A short piece with piano and strings. Any thoughts on how to tame some of the piano transients? Some of them are very sharp, and when I listen on my phone I find it overloads the little speaker. I don't want to squash the dynamic range, but I find I can't add anymore than a dB or so of compression with hating the sound of it. Update - it took me a while to get back to this, since I was traveling last week. I think a combination of narrow eq's to target some of the piano resonances along with some active eq using the really cool (and free!) TDR Nova has helped a lot.

  8. Basically what you want doesn't exist outside of the software you seem to like using. Why not just use that? And in my world still the best way to learn to sing is to take vocal lessons that will teach you how to control your voice. Singing along with pre recorded vocals will not help you improve much. And looking at pitch is not a very good idea. You need to learn how to Hear pitch. You should have your eyes closed and concentrate on not just pitch but timber and vibrato and all the other things that make your voice what it is. You do the voice training lessons and then practice songs that are suitable to your voice. I can sing over 300 songs. There are defiantly more songs I cannot sing than ones I can. Of course you can learn to sing without proper training too, but that takes longer and you might develop bad habits. There's a lot of real good videos on singing most are free. If the first thing they don't teach you is breathing, move on to the next one.

  12. Holy crap, was I beat when my head finally hit the pillow early this morning. Yesterday was a record-breaking 3-Mocha day. That's three Starbucks Iced Mochas in one day. I should have been bouncing of the walls, as I normally don't drink caffeine. We've really been gigging too much this summer, I think. The band's pretty tight now, but we're at that stage where it's all becoming rote muscle-memory. I'll catch my mind wandering mid-song, admiring a hot waitress, wondering if the forecast rain will hold off until after loadout, how I should feel about Pell grant recipients getting a $20,000 break on college tuition, and whether another Chernobyl-class nuclear disaster might be imminent. And then a brief panic when I suddenly realize that a) I've forgotten what song we were playing, b) I think I'm supposed to be soloing now, and c) how come we don't have a single jam in Am? I'll have to bring that up at next rehearsal.

  14. The GOG summer sale is also on. I think they are just "GOG" rather than an acronym now but it used to be called "Good Old Games" and they do a good job of making games DRM-free, compatible with new OSes, and often including some bonus material, manuals, multiple versions and the like. There was a post here a couple weeks ago where people mentioned some old games that are now on sale: The MS-DOS Epic Pinball collection from the mid-90s is $1.19. I forget who mentioned this but it could have been a joke since the modern Epic Pinball was being discussed https://www.gog.com/en/game/epic_pinball_the_complete_collection @Peter - IK Multimedia you might have mentioned the original unreal tournaments? Windows-compatible, $2 each first one https://www.gog.com/game/unreal_tournament_goty 2004 https://www.gog.com/en/game/unreal_tournament_2004_ece

  16. I've been using version 2 and it seems much better so far. This is a case where developers keep prices set higher on some things and miss sales. If Mastering With The Mix ever discounted the upgrade to V2 I would've bought it. The upgrade has never been on sale. But their sale price of the full version at the resellers was really not far off the upgrade price. Not the best way to reward loyalty, especially if you own most of their plugins. In saying that, pretty happy I didn't buy it and snagged it for free instead, it's a good one 🤣

  17. Enjoyed the track. But Am I the only one that feels the kick is really dominating the track? It just doesn't sound like its in the same room as the snare or anything else. Could be its just me... t from YouTube "been working on making some high gain amps for MTurboamp" Chandler does a lot of demo vids for Melda, evidently he is putting together some presets.

  18. Out of all their trademark infringing names, this one is definitely the funniest, although I don't know if it was intentional or just a coincidence. Although once Spitfire came out with the actual Abbey Road Mrs. Mills piano library for $29 USD, that was the ultimate no-brainer for anyone going after that sound. I suppose you could say that Past to Future's name of this library reveals more about them than any of us ever wanted to know. Anyhow, here's an album cover for Mrs. Mills. I think it's inappropriate to call her that name they used, and she has long passed. But to each their own. EDIT: Past to Future changed the name of the library from "MRS. MILFS PIANO" to "Honky Tonk Piano," which, of course, killed the humor in my post.

  20. I have updated the video and brought the volume up: Thanks to Hidden Symmetry & DeeringAmps for helping out. Since my brother died, I’ve been getting back into song writing, I’ve got a few tunes recorded but I’ve had covid twice so my vocal is shot at the moment. But I got myself on YouTube, so I’d be ready to go when it all comes together. I had made a video a while back to send out to the tribe as a keepsake of my brother, so I posted it today just to check out how to upload vids and what not. It’s just a basement jam taken from a tape and cleaned up with cakewalk.

  23. The spacey music I was working on didn't sound very spacey so the project came out as a soundtrack for rainy weather. I'm used to the rain here in Portland but seems like it's way more than usual lately. Thanks for listening/comments. -Bjorn

  29. So, with all your help I have things running. Actually, for the first time I can remember, a Windows update didn’t cause issue but solved some of mine. I kept restarting the computer without successful results and then a Win 11 update gave me control of the nanoKontrol. something that bothers me in Kontakt is that when I stop the engine and it returns to my starting position the dynamics volume is set to 0. When I hit play the volume returns. Is there a way to stop this?

  30. Well I thought it would be awesome fun, but ran into 2 things when I installed it. 1. I realized that it was an only online-only game, but the first surprise was that it's a 110 GB download! Wow! But I had some spare space on my data drive, so I thought I'd try it out anyway... 2. When I tried to launch the game, another pop-up installer said I would have to install "BattlEye", an anti-cheat app on my machine in order to play online. https://www.battleye.com/ Nope! I don't want any more services installed on my DAW PC. I suppose if I had a dedicated gaming PC I might consider it, but nope... 😢 Edit: I was also going to check out Fortnite, another Epic online-only game. But apparently it uses BattlEye as well. That sort of shortens my Epic games backlog a bit, LOL!

  31. Did anyone get the APD deal on Syntronik 2 and if so, does it qualify for the IK 4-for-1 Promotion? I didn't see it explicitly excluded, but there was that issue with MP CE. PS: If you are an APD customer and want Syntronik 2, check your e-mail for a LOYALTY Code. By my math, that $5.00 more of a discount than the going-back-to-school code!

  33. "reduce the level" It was common practice in commercial radio, that the voice of the DJ reduced, "ducked", the music he was speaking over. Evidently TrackSpacer is using some kind of multiband compression based on the vocal track to "make space" or "duck" the rest of the mix. (hope I made that clear) t

Pupils it turns out can navigate to the H: drive which is actually the same as their home drive, but not their usual way of getting there- usually they would use Documents icon but that uses a URL I passed on some of your comments and IT found them useful

  44. I think the idea there is to make any colours be non-distracting unless you're specifically "activating" it, which I agree is counter to what the button actually does and is a bit confusing. I think a better icon is needed - one with FX and a line through it, so in the deactivated state, it's not lit, but when it's activated you'll clearly see that "the button with the FX crossed out is on" kind of thing, meaning your FX are bypassed. I have a vague recollection that someone has done something similar in the Themes forum? Colin? Erik? Anyone? But yeah, I think that would be nice to be added into the stock themes. I'd suggest the PDC button could have something similar too.
