  1. I know there are some serious orchestrators here, and this content isn't targeted at them. This will appeal more to the casual composer who just dabbles in pseudo-classical genres. Like me. Anne-Kathrin Dern is a working composer out of Los Angeles, originally from Germany (like another famous composer we all know and love, whose company she once worked for). Her background includes creating sample libraries for CineSamples, so she's very knowledgeable about that stuff. She's been doing this quite a while, despite her apparent young age. No, you won't recognize most of the movies she's done; they are third-tier flicks like Hallmark Christmas specials and kid's shows. But she's done a lot of them, makes a living at it and knows her sh*t. The channel's content ranges from orchestration/composition tips to library reviews to how-to techniques to the recording process. It's the latter category I find most interesting, as she explains how a cue gets from ITB mockup to live orchestra. Plus she's way cuter than Rick Beato.

  7. All this talk about the technical details while the video only has 5 likes... c'mon people! listen to the music too, enjoy the nice work in video editing and hit that thumbs up button! (to be clear, I do enjoy the technical conversation too. I'm just pointing out that it should go together with an appreciation for the arts...)

  9. Here's my new video. I was trying to make music out of my comfort zone. I've fooled around with XO, but never actually finished any music with it. Turns out you can't play it into your DAW, you have to output wavs. The cool thing is that you can output out all the stems. And because it's XO, I didn't just use Delhia de France's sounds like loops--I was able to put all these noises I've collected into the drum parts. But definitely XO and de France got this project started. Once I saw Bettie dancing to her beats, it was a go. I thought it was worth a shot to try to get Realitone Blue to sing "Beh-tee," and I think it worked out pretty well. It's hard for me to think of this piece without it. At the end, I even have two Blues singing harmony. But the best thing (as with my previous video) is Evolution Series' Brontë. This is such a cool VI. I expect I'll be using it a lot. I think it kicks the ***** of the competition. So beautiful. I wondered if I would ever get round to using Boz Digital's El Clapo and Das Boot, but they are in this too. There's a few bars of Butch Vig at the beginning too. I did think for a while about making this a binaural mix, but I decided it was too complicated for that. But my experience with binaural led me to make this kind of nutzo spacially.

  10. Avid quietly pulled the Pro Tools First product late last year and Focusrite are now offering a 3 month Avid subscription as an alternative. The seem to give you this even if you've already had the First licence. I thought I'd take a look, even though I have zero intention of subscribing. When you link this to your Avid account it dumps 3 month licences into your ilok account. So far so good - but on my account it activated a "protools inner circle' deal which has a bunch of free plugins and sound content. It's worth taking a look even if you have zero interest in an Avid subscription/Trial. NOTE: that when Avid dump the licences (lots of them !) in your iLok account the 3 month countdown begins immediately. It's not the 3 months from activation that you normally get. If you were thinking of actually using the 3 month licences you may want to wait until you need it to maximise your 3 months...if that makes sense ? ALSO: Avid also do a 1 month free trial with licences that begin after activation - and you can 'stack' these in your iLok account - so you can effectively get 4 months free if subscriptions appeal ?

  11. Atmosia - an atmospheric melodic drone engine for Kontakt 5.8.1 and above. Atmosia is a unique take on producing drone sounds, using the Channel Robot 4-voice Recoil playback engine. Atmosia includes a set of 50 custom designed drone sources created to provide long-evolving textural soundscapes. The sounds are carefully structured to allow them to be used in a melodic context - they are much more than normal one-note drone loops. Atmosia's powerful 4-voice dual-channel engine offers you the sculpting and creative power to use 8 different sounds in your final playback: Select any combination of voices (including repeating the same voice but with modified settings for phase shifting and beating effects), each voice then passes through the standard channel, each with their own envelope, tremolo and vibrato modules. In parallel the voices pass through our unique physical modelling style exciter and resonator engines, where you can define exciter patterns and speed, attack, release and length as well as define a re-pitching sequence. Each voice channel has independent volume, pitch and sample-start offset controls as well as 4 independent effect slots where you can assign up to 4 effects. Each effect slot offers you 20 different effects to choose from. Finally each channel has 4 send levels - which send to one of the 4 send effect slots. Each slot offers 6 different send effects. The entire instrument has overall volume, pan and limiter controls, as well as an intelligent randomiser to produce new an interesting drone-style sounds quickly and easily. Atmosia comes with 50 Snapshots to get you started. $7.60 at the KVR Marketplace https://www.kvraudio.com/marketplace/atmosia-by-channel-robot

  12. One great machine with something like the 12900k and a RTX 3xxx series video card (with 0dB fan mode) would excel at both running DAW applications, video editing,... as well as games. You don't want to build something like this fully passive-cooled. You could... but it would be a thermal-throttling disaster. 😉

  14. The manual is at http://amplesound.net/en/Main_Panel_Manual-AGM.pdf. A good keyswitch summary is at http://amplesound.net/dl0822/ds/Keyswitches(Helmut)v1.6.zip. it needs a slight update but is still very useful. I have it available on my desk ALL the time. But I found it best to study the MIDI demos at http://amplesound.net/en/download.asp. Please note that the free Lite versions have quite a few limitations. They are only meant for you to get a feel for the sounds (which are great) and GUI (which also is good). As a big user (and fanboy) and picky guitar player (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk 😁) , I can tell you I have been able to do everything I've needed to with Ample Sound instruments. I highly recommend them.

  15. Louder is always "better". I think somewhere in the middle here is where you want to be. I'm hearing that fiddle and second (third, fourth, fifth? guitars better as well). I'm a guitar player, so not sure the "call and response" is "there" yet. But, more me, more me; right? so you can disregard... Overall, you're at an "A" level. Trust your live sound instincts! (and work on that "call and response" 🙃 mybad) t

  16. Yes, this is most definitely 80s era Priest here rather than their also excellent 70s output. I did have to take out a small bank loan for spandex and studded leather to make this track authentic! (Aw who am I kidding? My closet is full of this stuff 😒) Cheers for the awesome comments, guys! Really cool 🙂

  17. For the time being, the way to do this is to create a single audio track with sends to all the buses you want in your template. Once you insert the template, you can simply delete that single track - the buses will be left intact.

  21. According to the release notes, nothing has been addressed in this regard. And by golly, we now have yet another "sure fire" way to do it. The thread on the current site (in the Tutorials section) is a wonderful collection of "that didn't work for me but I found a way that does," always referring to someone else's method that works every time for the person who posted it. It's one of the great mysteries of Cakewalk, up there with "why does Cakewalk create a spurious clip at the end of my takes if the last take is shorter than the previous ones?" No one knows exactly how Start Screen assigns images to templates (and even regular projects if you don't choose one in the Notes browser), why for some it's critical to overwrite the previous file and for some it's equally critical not to overwrite the previous file, why sometimes the default icon is a nice vinyl record and other times it's a screenshot of the project at some point. Some think it's using certain magic words, others are just as sure that making an offering of the image you wish to use in the correct location is the trick. So far it has resisted some very determined attempts to reverse engineer a 100% effective method, and I'm beginning to admire it for that.

  22. I had this similar challenge once and just couldn’t get the exact timing I wanted. So my solution was to create 2 new tracks below the original. Each was panned hard left and right. Then I would drag copy the phrase I wanted and paste to the new tracks a few times as needed. I placed them precisely were I wanted using the grid for timing. I then used clip gain envelopes to fade each away and with differences between left and right tracks to create a subtle ping pong. In the end it was much faster than trying to figure it out with a delay plug in.

  23. Hi Christian. I hope you're well. I like the library, but like anything it's really subjective. The sounds are very 80s-ish. If you search on "karanyi polycsape" on YouTube there are some videos where people play patches, so I'd strongly recommend checking that out before you purchase the library.

  24. I finally tried EZBass on a new tune where I thought my established bass part could use some new ideas. It's a new 'Citizen Regen' metal tune. So, I loaded up the metal bass, plugged in the chords, and chose some metal patterns for the intro, verse, pre-chorus and the chorus. Comparatively speaking the various patterns I picked vs what I originally played were pretty busy (think Victor Wooten Solo but in Metal genre). One small verse section was even pretty close to what I originally played. Now, there was one section I really liked and so I nicked it for my final take that I played on the track, not EZBass. It was something I would probably never would have stumbled on, so it was a cool find.

  27. One of my old bosses used to type in all caps. From the day he hired me I thought he was mad at me. It made a horrible working environment. Finally one day I asked him what I did wrong to make him so mad. He had no idea what I was talking about. I pointed out how he was always typing in caps when he would send me a message or email. He laughed and said he had no idea that typing in caps meant you were yelling at someone and that he had to have caps lock on for the antiquated DOS based dispatching software the owner forced them to use and he just left it on by force of habit when sending emails or messaging us through the dispatch system.

  36. That's an interesting problem ( No matter how hard I try I cant get a dry sound ). Of course in this work it would be hard to notice that as it's extremely intricate and so your observations are impossible to detect. I don't know what sound interface your using, mine is a Scarlett 18i20 which has an 'Air' controller that kinda brings out a sort of toppy value giving the dry signal space more room, personally I hardly use it as I think EQ these days can do almost anything in that field ... my point is are you hearing the I/P dry or have you got something that enhances this signal on your m/d or sound module ? Anyway couple of beers has cleared me ears ... so that's good 🦻 Take care M8 Steve
