  1. I am an extremely loyal Sonar user going back to version 8.0. Like many, I was burned by Gibson with the bogus "lifetime rolling updates" scam that was part of them trying to kill Cakewalk. I am just writing to say thank you to Bandlab for continuing to update and improve Sonar/Cakewalk! I switched from Apple to PC's years ago and have never looked back. Sonar has always been the best PC DAW. I guess I should start calling it Cakewalk, but old habits die hard. Anyway, Just want to let you know there are a lot of us out here that truly appreciate you saving it. That you have offered it free is almost beyond belief. It still remains one of the most complete and certainly one of the most advanced and sophisticated DAW's out there. I used to laugh when I would read of Pro Tools updates because they were usually years behind and most other DAW's were also quite a bit behind. Cakewalk continues to have one of the best sound engine out there. I know. I have tested it against just about all of them. I started with Sony Acid way back when, switched to Cubase but also tried Ableton several times (matrix view is like Live on steroids if you ask me), Reaper, etc. I switched to Sonar with version 8 after downloading a demo. The first time I opened an already recorded file I could instantly hear the difference between Cubase and Sonar. I have been a loyal user ever since. Thanx for the good work and the continued updates, bug fixes, and new tools. Thanx! e.scarab

  5. The version of Music Maker in this bundle is the "Score Edition". For Reference: Versions that are <Genre> Edition don't generally include any of the optional features (Song Maker, Extra Tracks, etc). If you want these features you need to spend money (or vouchers) at the in-app store to get them. The <Genre> Editions are almost the same as the Free Edition, the only difference is that they include free soundpool(s) of the specified genre (Score in this case, which means cinematic/movie score style) For me, the $1 tier with a $20 voucher valid for both Magix and Acid brands, is a real no brainer. Humblebundle will limit the amount of repeat purchases to 3 per payment method (e.g., you can buy 9 vouchers if you purchase 3 with paypal, 3 with amazon, 3 with credit card). This limit resets every few days (weekly?) Right now there is a promotion at producerplanet where all Acid branded music Loop collections are at $20 for the commercial-use licensed version (music loops only, not the sound effect libraries, and just the single collections, collection bundles are more expensive) https://www.producerplanet.com/us/search/?area=audio&acidizedOnly=true&query=&salesOnly=true&category=250 The end result is 150+ loop libraries to choose from, for $1 out-of-pocket each. These are acidized (what Cakewalk calls "Groove Clips"). Many are "oldies" but still "solid", e.g., Mick Fletwood Total Drumming. Just tweak them with VSTs to make them sound more "modern" if you feel like it. Just keep in mind that the promotion has been active for a few days already and it is likely to end soon (on the other hand you may want to save a few vouchers for getting soundpools when there is a good sale)

  6. One day my wife decided she wanted a fancy drinking bottle. A fancy metallic drinking bottle. Of course it needed to be sampled. The Bottle was hit with rubber and felt mallets. I recorded three variants of it: one with the bottle being completely empty, one with it filled half way with water and one with the bottle full of water. These samples we processed to bring you 8 mallet instruments, 4 sound designed instruments and 4 sound designed pads. These range from clean and beautiful mallets to dark and dissonant atmospherics. The Bottle has a cinematic, atmospheric vibe to it. Contents The Bottle Kontakt version contains 16 .NKI patches, 2625 uncompressed . WAV samples and takes up 3,7 GB of hard disk space. The samples are left in uncompressed WAV format to provide you with the possibility to load them into your favorite sampler or use them as raw audio files in your DAW. The Bottle MSoundfactory version contains 5 patches and takes up 600 MB of hard disk space. Both versions use the same original samples and you get both versions to use. Tech Specs The Bottle Kontakt version requires the FULL VERSION of Kontakt 5. It is proven to work with version 5.8.1 and higher. It will not function in the Free Player version. The Bottle MSoundfactory only requires the free MSoundfactory Player. You can download it here: https://www.meldaproduction.com/MSoundFactory Pricing The Bottle retails for 15€ (excluding VAT where applicable) with an introductory offer of 10€ until the 24th of May 2021. Go grab it here: https://www.manmakesnoise.com/the-bottle

  7. Autosave and Save are two different files. Autosave is going to save every ten minutes regardless of the Save status. Furthermore Autosave is not going to clear a "dirty" project. FWIW I have Autosave disabled. There is no setting for it that is not annoying. Instead I have learned to hit "Cntrl-S" every time I even look at the keyboard.

  8. I’ve owned the original version of Perception for ages and have used a lot, especially when mastering. If you have a bunch of IZotope plugs in Ozone, plus maybe Zynaptic Intensity in your chain, being able to level match accurately and quickly is a real eye opener. And dare I say it, it makes you a better engineer. That said, there are cheaper alternatives available, and I am not sold on what I would be getting for the upgrade path at $49.

  9. Not really BFD related but I couldn’t find my answer until now about how this would affect other fxpansion instrument, so posting in case anyone else is wondering. As someone else mentioned ROLI bought fxpansion in 2016. From info below this is how they will handle other instruments and this sale only affects BFD. “The sale will see the popular FXpansion BFD drum software along with its sample libraries, and its development staff of four, move over to InMusic. The remainder of FXpansion titles, such as Strobe 2 and Cypher 2, will remain under ROLI’s stewardship.”

  12. Hi Noynekker , youre spot on with those timing issues , I couldnt for the life of me pinpoint them myself although I used the same 4/4 ezdrum patterns ??? as the rest of the song , so Ive changed the piano-guitar parts and i think it sounds better , I was trying to add some dynamics to the build up with keys , it just didnt work, basically because I´m not a pianist , so thanks once again for your honest input , its always welcome, and as for the photo...... It was just one that was left over from EU ID card , I do however have another one where I´m donning a pair of leopard motive jockey ........ , maybe i´ll ................probally not cheers

  13. WASAPI Shared mode can run at different sample rates from other applications because Windows internally sample rate converts and mixes the output from all client applications. Even in ASIO mode some drivers can internally handle this by sample rate converting. If youtube is failing its typically because Cakewalk is in ASIO mode and the driver doesn’t handle multi client use well.

  14. Because of the acquisition, reverbs suddenly became part of all the bundles. For some that is a bonus, but for others the added "fluff" isn't enough to make up for the lack of product development. For those of us not interested in Groove 3 or more reverbs, the cost becomes questionable. Subscriptions can be beneficial for some, but for current advanced owners it isn't as appealing. The "loyalty pricing" is a joke for some companies... Repeat buyers are their predominant revenue stream. Once you buy something you get flooded with advertising to buy more.

  15. LMAO - my "offers" include such tempting deals as $149 to "upgrade" to Ozone 9 Standard. I already have O9 advanced.... Great products, but they really need to pay attention to what customers already have when claiming to be looking after you. If subscription is the Izotope future then I'm done and I'll be perfectly happy with what I already have given that I have barely scratched the surface of what it is no doubt capable of.

  22. Just to note... First, thanks for listing the vst/dx version. At last I know which I am using. I have long wondered why so many items got posted twice in the lists. At last I understand! 😉 I posted an item about this in the feedback loop as I have the option in Preferences selected to hide VST2 when VST3 is also available. Was this a misunderstanding on my part or a bug?

  26. I'd used Sonar for years, and migrated to CBB (is that the acronym?) a while ago, but this is the first time that I've been motivated to write or post anything in the forums. Great great update guys, very smooth. So far no hiccups whatsoever. And is it me, or did you guys do something about the gui resolution scaling? My screen isn't the best or biggest, but I swear everything looks sharper and crisper. Text, wave forms, you name it, just looks a little clearer and sharper to me. Tell me I'm not going crazy here? lol. Anyhow, great job as always guys.

  31. Hi Paul . . . had a few listens through your first mix here, really like the song and the integrity of it here. I hear some timing issues between the instruments at the beginning and also about 3/4 of the way through the song. The lead vocals and background vocals are excellent, and recorded with a lot of honest feeling, that drives the song. I would also say that for the background vocals, you've really added something very special and unpredictable to this one. Not sure how you recorded this, so the timing issues are hard to pinpoint, but I think it's the piano out of time near the start ? . . . and 3/4 of the way through, the drums get out of time ? Anyways . . . just trying to help, and look forward to any future versions of this one posted here. Ha ! you are a brave one with your reality picture online, very cool.

  33. If you really need to split out the MIDI parts, you can use Process > Run CAL > Split Notes To Tracks. Just be sure to set the starting track to the next number after the last existing track in the project. A better option if you just want separate audio tracks, and are using a multi-out drum synth is to create a separate audio track for each output of the drum synth, and freeze/bounce those. If your drum synth doesn't have separate outputs for each kit piece or doesn't have as many as you need (e.g. to break out percussion pieces), you can apply a drum map to the MIDI track output, and use it to solo kit pieces and bounce them to tracks one at a time. I do often like to have the MIDI parts separated to facilitate editing, but I usually put them in separate lanes of a single MIDI track.

  37. well there is a normalization process but its peak level not RMS. there is also the silence process which can readily trim down below a threshold and split clips (or not) depending on settings.

  39. @Starship Krupa, @NOLAGuy alright alright alright I confess I also usually use Project > Time/ Measures also. However ripple edit works for me. I don't recall setting any specific options to ensure that Time Signatures, Markers, Arranger sections, Tempo changes also move with the clips. I don't need to select all in order for it to work. If I start with Track 2 selected, when I grab that clip in track 1, the selection highlight moves to Track 1 - and all tracks' clips are moved. Here:

  45. >Music Maker kept asking for my serial number, but it needs a serial number that starts with P3 For me, the MusicMaker serial numbers weren't in the email but they show up in my Magix account (log in to the website, then go to My Account > My Products) >[the basic version] does not have the Song Maker Feature I did use coupons for getting features from the in-app store (at the beginning I had many coupons from several promotions) . Yes It is annoying that they're "up to $20" for one item, you cannot get two $10 features with one $20 coupon (the $20 can be used for one $10 feature but you waste the remaining half). The "more tracks" feature moved very quickly to the top of the "wants" list after getting Song Maker. I also got other features like VST support which looked "essential", but actually they haven't been that useful, as I end up using the "export tracks to wav" and doing all the the creative effects, mixing and mastering in another DAW. Note that if you like the "object oriented" approach that Magix apps use, Samplitude can import MMM projects (drag and drop the mmm project into the main Samplitude window) >ACID loops work within Music Maker. Of course, they might not work with Song Maker, which is the only thing that intrigues me. Song Maker depends heavily on the multi-pitch loops in soundpools. It is possible to create your own soundpool using Acid but it does take a bit of preparation work, as you need to pitch-shift the loops and save the various pitches, copying the structure from another soundpool and tweaking the .inf and .xml files. You will also need some plugin/tool that lets you do the pitch-shifting by manipulating individual notes so that you can change loops from major to minor as needed (e.g., the Song Maker templates reference loops in: C d e F G a) >Maybe [use the coupons to] buy some sound effects. Just keep in mind that the coupons have restrictions, primarily they won't work for "3rd-party" purchases, and it is sometimes confusing because different Magix "labels" (e.g., MAGIX and ACID) are not unified in the store. I got coupons when I bought ACID that won't work for buying Soundpools, and coupons when I bought MMM that won't work for buying ACIDized collections (even though all the coupons begin with G3 and look similar) As an additional comment - the MMM in-app store doesn't have a sale right now but they run sales very frequently. Some patience generally pays off well (e.g., the larger soundpools where the commercial versions are $40, they are often 40%~50% off and can then be purchased with just one coupon, or a coupon and only a small amount of cash)

  47. Thanks Tom, I've tweaked this version a few times already. In the meanwhile put a de-esser on those stabs cause they're harsh lo-fi loops. All these older tunes are 16b bit, did the guitar tracks using an old POD (which I eventually threw in the trash!) Same with the bass gtr,not much can help it but it's fun remixing this old project using headphones only. Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

  48. a while back i was watching a mix engineer show how he would calibrate the in and out levels so each effect/chain had net zero increase on levels - turn up the gain a channel, that gain is (mostly) the same on the output of the chain (and levels between each effect to avoid clipping - both on the external analog gear and plugins). so for the past few years i've been doing that - gain staging to avoid clipping and net zero level increase on the effects/chains. when trying things i ignore this temporarily, but once settled on something i'll balance them, save as a preset, and off to the next track or buss. and of course, sometimes i violate the rule to make it sound like i like it 🙂 i had tried a number of the gain management plugins but they were generally was too resource intensive for my systems. reusing gain staged and level balanced effects chains is pretty simple so i just go with that and no additional plugins needed for a minute or two of work...
