  4. It's not a myth. Cakewalk always records the signal at the track input. Since plug-ins come after a track's input, the effected signal is after recording. So, to record a signal after plug-in processing it is necessary to place a track after the FX rack. Patch points and aux tracks may be used for this purpose. Create a new track and set the output of the track with effects to the new track using a patch point or Create an aux track and use it as the target of the track with effects. Still may be a good idea to record the original track while recording the effected track, just in case.

  5. Their practices are some of the worst in the business. And their software installer is by far the worst ever.

  6. Yes with some synths any overlapping double notes mute that note. This can even happen if the duration of the first note overlaps a second note. Sometimes you have a note you can't hear and it is hidden underneath an overlapping note. You need to think of your parts as the way they would be in real life. A Wind instrument cannot play 2 notes simultaneously. If there are 2 players then yes. Best practice is to put each instrument ( player) in it's own track and in the case of the TTS_1 this also requires assigning a different channel. Very easy to do. Create part one using a only one note at a time and assign it to TTS_1 Channel 1. This is done in the track header in the output option boxes You have Channel/ Bank/ patch Now create a second midi track and assign it to TTS-1 Channel 2 and so on. And generally TTS-1 is a good starting point but most of us use Sample based VST's which have higher sound quality. I made these videos to demonstrate TTS-1 options. Video IV is about replacing TTS-1 tracks with other VST's.

  7. Please go easy on me, this is my very first attempt at a comprehensive theme overhaul. Named after the 91st element, this metallic theme is light in tone and broadly based on "that other DAW"'s color (Classic) scheme. Thanks to Matthew for the help and also the M-Spec theme that I started from. Also props to Colin Nicholls for some elements of FLAT WHITE and Canopus for the knobs from his Gran Vista themes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p7i0v7wphdwzql3/PROtactinium 1.2.sth?dl=0 If you find something amiss please let me know. I had to make some compromises due to the forced connections between sometimes unrelated elements. Always learning!

  12. Oh, they are well aware and know, they simply don't care. We've been yelling at them for years about this stuff. They have a terrible reputation all over most internet communities but they continue to sell well because they focus mostly on marketing. The products themselves, some are okay but nothing that can't be replaced. On top of that, they are insulting. Nothing is ever their fault or the products fault, it's always something the user did and they deflect with "well no one else has this problem" rather than actually trying to help fix it. They are one of my very few blacklisted companies.

  13. I believe many reason of such terrible approach to customer raises from lack of proper and strong feedback. They are not many companies over whole world that have built-in self improvement in their gens. And trying to do state of with art everything they do. Usually they are focusing on what they are trying to deliver, underestimating the rest. It is in fact hardly seen in big companies at all as they have many departments, people, procedures, passive approach to feedback (waiting for complains, counting them and reacting to counters in they development). Of course it looks like logical approach at first glance, complex product, big company lots of work,so you must chose what do do first... But they often miss what should be really important as user experience is more than just putting something to input and getting great output. I have some plugins that I am using more not because they are the best from my collection but providing the best experience... They can hear several guys like us complaining but they read enthusiastic reviews how good it is, where more likely nobody bold things like terrible installers blindly and stupidly trashing disk with all possible versions everywhere (like McDSP and many others), like providing poor support for download (IK requires payment for libs after some time, but JST is permanently cutting off download after year, you bought so bye), like reasonable upgrade paths for customers who invested already lots of money, or those who are promising fake loyalty coupons (which are worthless as not working during deals where any person gets the same price and lower than catalog price - voucher) etc... What I am trying to say here is if we would have a way to convince them such things are more important, if for instance review authors also could take such things into accounts when giving a rating, it would be game changer. We are not strong enough to change it just with some random complains.... For instance, reviewer probably think, install you are using once and done so not so important to mention about it. But it only means lack of understanding whole process, like wasting time to clean manually, lack of control over our own environment and repeating with every next update. Also upgrade paths... How many reviews did you read where there were compared cost of products and also upgrade paths?

  14. I paid for Total Studio Max 1, and upgrade to 2, both when 2 was released, as it was the cheaper path for me to get it. They allowed me to use maximum Jampoints on these. Support from IK has been really helpful to do it. I didn’t had to worry after that to get individual products. I agree that their download policy is really bad.

  17. I think that along with Steinberg, IK is one of the worst. They charge you for downloading the sound files you already bought! This is they give you 6 month to download the soundpacks, if you have to download it after those 6 months you must purchase a download pack in order to be able to download it again. The only thing they get with those practices is to discourage anyone from purchasing they products. Aaaand you have that stupid installer that install all of the plugins they sell even if you purchase only one of them... I have Amplitube, Sampletank and T-Racks and for sure I would buy more products from them cause I really like them, but I am not going to support a company with those stupid practices that only looks for getting money from their customers at all costs. PD: I hate steinberg for their e-License thing and because they charge you and update fee for x.5 versions updates that corrects their own bugs. I really don't understand a company that charges you for correcting their mistakes. Is there any other software company that charge you an update rate for going from x.0 to x.5 version? ridiculous. This is why I move from Cubase to Reaper.

  19. I was upgrading for Amplitub4 Max to 5 Max and I thought the same thing. I had my buddy go in with me, and I ended up getting a 2nd AXE I/O and software using my Jam points, and ended up being the same $299 - so I subsidized the upgrade. Then, I saw the Dimebag collection and bought it like a moron ...already comes with 5 Max. They refunded my money on that.

  24. I already own Total Studio Max 2, which includes ST3 Max. I already own SampleTank 4 I already own ALL the additional products that are included in SampleTank 4 Max (and then some) My cost to upgrade to ST4 Max is $149? (And THAT PRICE is "on Sale"?) By the SAME token I already own Amplitube 4 Max, Amplitube 5 SE, and ALL the "add-ons" except Satriani, and THAT is besides owning Total Studio Max, which includes ANOTHER Amplitube 4 Max, and my cost to update to Amplitube 5 Max is is $299? How can IK NOT see the SHEER AND UTTER STUPIDITY of their business model? It's mind numbing!

  26. That's how it works for everything, if you have the time, you can save money, but some brands in this industry do such deep discounting it devalues their products at regular prices. As a marketing pro, I would never advise discounting a currently active product line as deeply (at 75% or more) like IK, Waves and Izotope often do. It can greatly alienate loyal customers who paid full price and it trains the market to wait for deep discounts. I mean, most of us hobbyists and semiprofessional musicians aren't going to pay full price for Waves plugins anymore. They've trained us not to.

  28. I've had this before. Normally happens on heavier sessions where my CPU is working hard. Try freezing everything to lighten to load on the CPU before bouncing, or route your mix bus to an aux track and print the mix there.

  33. Right. When you bought a "packaged product" you ALWAYS had the disks for backup, should you need them. So basically they have eliminated packaging costs, disk costs, and shipping costs, in Favor of CHARGING YOU EVEN MORE to get what you ALREADY paid for!

  41. I decided to try to get my Waves V12 working like they did before the “repair” which reverted them back to some unknown version with no window resizing. Waves Central shows them all as V12 installed and activated, and licensed to my machine. Waves Central of course had yet ANOTHER new version which happens nearly every time I go there which then had to automatically install etc. Using maintenance I could not uninstall V12 and only a couple uninstalled, after reinstalling them all I got were error messages “incorrectly installed plugins vst waveshell v12” so many pop up windows I had to just close Cakewalk. I again did “repair” and decided as they suggested to do the version organizer thinking that would help. Then roughly half of my Waves plugins no longer show up in my plugins. So opening a project results in a window with a huge list of Waves plugins used in those projects that are not found. Nothing on their website helped. I’m now realizing that I was pronouncing “waveshell”’ as wave shell, when actually it’s pronounced as waves hell. That fixes everything. The last 2 Waves webinars I signed up to watch on Waves both failed and cancelled due to “technical problems” the most recent a couple days ago with Allen Sides. Then ironically today I get an email from Waves on how to improve my online webinar broadcasting with their products. I like my Waves stuff, but it’s getting to where I’m actually afraid of them, this ongoing issue with their plugins has caused me to have the least productive and creative time in my studio ever over the last year. Projects crashing, plugins disappearing, plugins changing inexplicably, etc. then not having support unless you pay or are paid up. Happily all of my other plugins work great with Cakewalk.

  42. If they had an upgrade path from halion sonic se that came with Cubase then I might be enticed. However, all I see on their forums are complaints about the lack of an upgrade path from SE and nothing being done about it. As a consequence I don't even use Halion Sonic SE because it is a go nowhere thing.

  46. ok, all is well! I think I know what happened. It amounts to, I think, user error(pretty sure). When I installed Cakewalk by Bandlab, there's a prompt that read, "Let's get started". This is where tell it about your inputs and outputs and select your preferred workspace (Basic, None, Advance). I truly believe that I clicked this off, on the previous first install, and went right into setting up everything via preferences(midi, soundcard, input, mic, blah). I think that's where I screwed up. Once I selected my workspace at the, "Let's get started" prompt, the start up screen populated with the templates. Just to recap; Clean installed.. followed directions... all is well. Thanks everyone for your time spent on this. Now, can someone help me with moral of the story?
