We're not hiding anything. BandLab acquired the intellectual rights for Cakewalk properties, and chooses to provide it free to users. It's the same core application that was being sold as SONAR Platinum previously, no nefarious changes, just continued active development. Just because an application is free does not mean it has to be open source. We put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the application, and that has value, whether the app is being sold or not.

That riff you played last night was pretty killing so don't sell yourself short ? Seriously all of us here have better things to do with our lives than steal somebody's personal information. We wouldn't be doing this if we didn't care about developing top notch software for people to make music. I think that would be a fair thing to say about most companies building music software. While it might be hard to imagine how this software could be free, its a testament that good things can happen once in a while. Life is too short to mistrust everything.

They have two other freebies as well. Quiet Piano VST, effected piano presets, and Rain Maker, mixable rain and thunder sounds. Simple, but might be useful, if one hasn't many libraries and processors. Or inspirational.

Just my personal take on this.... but I think its also worth noting that BandLab is a Singapore based company. It's very common for US companies (and a lot of UK/EU companies, although to a lesser extent) to insist that every product or project team is financially sustainable. My previous gig ( a US company) insisted that every product had to make at least $1M per developer working on it... so if it made less than that, either the team would be cut or the product canned. The main problem with this approach, is that some products are actually worth having even if they lose money as they act as advertisement, industry prestige, or an entry point to other more profitable products. In a similar vein, I'm sure many of us have worked for companies who have clients that use up so much of the company's resources, you wonder how they can make any money from them... but the point is, having that client attracts other more profitable ones. Those high profile but unprofitable products or clients may not make you money, but they do add value to the brand... which in turn makes money. BandLab has a family of brands comprising of software (offline & online), audio interfaces, guitar pedals, guitars, a huge music retail chain and some big names in publishing. The brands that make money pay for the ones that don't. Having a fully featured professional DAW such as Cakewalk as part of its portfolio not only adds value to the BandLab brand, it also provides a stepping stone for BandLab's online DAW users to move on to the next step. Personally I see it as no different from what a lot of us hobbyists or semi-pros do... I mean we may do paid music work, but I'll bet a lot of us spend more on gear than we earn from it. So how can we continue? Well, the day job subsidises it.

Yup, 2020. Data transfer is cheap and there are options they could use to distribute the content completely free if they really wanted but they choose not. Hell, they could add a download limit but the timed download thing is completely anti-consumer BS.

Okay, Adam, I just looked over your posts in this forum and 10 days ago you had to have someone tell you how to download the Theme Editor. Sorry, but you're not allowed to get this good in a week. I've been at this for over a year and a half and my buttons still look like someone ran over a jelly donut with their skateboard. I think we have a Lord of the Sth here.... It's people like you who make it so that I'll probably never "release" a complete, finished theme of my own. By the time I'm 3/4 done slogging my way through it, one of you Sth Lords will drop a group of 3, one of which will be very close to the one I've been working on, except yours will have a custom graticule for the Quadcurve EQ or something.

Bandlab owns the software known as Cakewalk formally known as Sonar. They have every right to offer it in anyway they want. For those that have had Sonar from its very beginning Bandlab came to our rescue when Cakewalk the company was shut down. We are grateful to Bandlab for keeping it alive and thriving. For anyone to demand Bandlab give the code to the world with out buying it as Bandlab did seems to me too presumptuous to be believed. I can't see any benefit to Bandlab or to the user base. Nor can I see any reason this would in anyway benefit Bandlab. If the OP wants Cakewalk to open source the code than the OP should buy the code from Bandlab and then give it away. At the very lease the OP should reimburse Bandlab for what Sonar cost Bandlab before proposing this absurd notion. Also as a practical matter at present we users have a robust development team that is able to know every line of code. That would not be the case if it were not controlled by a single organization. As to transparency that notion is not of any use to anyone. I don't need to know how Cakewalk is written to use it.

My belief would be that they are trying to get rid of the ability to crossgrade for free. They've known for a long time that people were doing that and I believe it was intentional for a while but the time has come that they likely want to end it. Especially as more high profile companies are bailing from their Kontakt engine and more samplers are coming out as competition for Kontakt which could cause a shift. They had no real competition for a long time, now we have UVI Workstation and Falcon, SINE, Whatever Spitfire is calling theirs these days, Engine 3 is right around the corner with a massive overhaul, I also have my suspicions we're going to hear about a new sampler by Spectrasonics soon... They are going to want to capitalise as much as possible at this point. It looks like Embertone Arcane is still free but who knows how long that will last for.

Hello forum members , thank you for showing your concern and empathy for my situation regarding my dog Duke . Today at 4: 15 I took Duke to the vet and he was put to sleep ... I was grateful the Vet was able to see us at 4 PM ...the very thought of waiting until Monday or Tuesday to book an appointment with the vet for later on in the week just did not sit well with me ... Even though Duke couldn't tell me verbally he was suffering I could just tell he was ...so I wanted to give us both a few memories before our final moments together came to a close . An hour and a half before out appointment I decided to run to the store and buy a steak .I cooked that bad boy up and Duke and I had our last meal together. I wanted to do everything I could with Duke so I took him to his favorite place to hang . While there we both enjoyed our time together just watching the day to day activities of other dog walkers , cars driving by and children playing in the playground . Then I took him for a short walk and once he was done with his assault on the bush I gave him his favorite ball to chew on as I let him into the back seat area of my car ... Once I got him in the car he was so happy to have his face in the wind ...I was smiling through my tears as I watched his floppy ears flapping like 2 bird wings zig zagging across the sides of his head while his large mouth turned into a doggie suction parachute where sucking in the breeze made his lips get gigantic and his cheeks puffed out like a hamster that tempo matched his cheeks to a strobe light .... Once we got there I knew I was doing the right thing by setting him free ... I did hold on to him while he went to sleep and for about 10 mins afterward ... Well, after the successes of so many frivolous copyright lawsuits in recent years maybe you should get a lawyer.

Some audio interfaces do not allow changes to buffer size using Cakewalk's audio preferences. You need to do this using the configuration utility that came with your audio interface. I have an intel 4th gen i5 (2015) with a 2nd gen Focusrite 2i2 set to 48khz with a buffer size or 256 samples. This is using ASIO. I do not get glitchy playback when playing any softsynth live in real-time - even the CPU hungry ones.

It's normally 299 euros. Get it HERE now although it may be cheaper at discount stores. This is the regular The Orchestra, not The Orchestra Comnplete.

I don't have BBCSO (any edition), but I seem to remember seeing that the full version doesn't run that smoothly on Windows - better so on Mac; things may or may not have changed. If you were to move from The Orchestra to The Orchestra Complete, you'd go for the upgrade which is a bit cheaper than the crossgrade. I don't see why they'd block this, but you could always wait a week/month before doing so.

Millions of dollars of development have gone into creating this applcation that has evolved over decades now. This isn't some fly by night program. How many professional applicaitons of this level have you seen just suddenly give away the source code, which other current competitors could then copy and use without recourse for their own financial gain? Cakewalk is a huge value add to the Bandlab brand. Look at the other open source creative/technical applciations on the market...there isn't a single one I can think of that has the capabilites and refirenment that Cakewalk has. Other programs typically will have some nice technical qualities with a horrible GUI, or limited feature set, or lack integrations. Cakewalk (Sonar) had many "firsts" in the industry over its history. The fact you even bring Linix into the conversation here, on a program deeply ingrained with Windows, simply suggests you have no idea what you are talking about. You are aware that Cakewalk was a professional paid for (and every expensive program) for ~20 years, correct?

I updated yesterday and my projects opened with audio dropouts. My solution: Start using Sequoia and Nuendo for all of my important DAW projects. And I've been with Cake since 1988. I'm done.

About the last year and a half of her life turned out to be all about pain management ....When she started going down hill pain wise I felt heartbroken seeing the health changes in her ..I was grateful that a friend helped make it possible for the vet to come to my house and put Lucy down in my very arms ... As far as Duke goes he is almost there now ....yet I notice there is a chance he can pull through for a little while longer before I have to make any final decisions . It seems the meds he is on may not cure him but they seem to be helping out with his pain .He is a little loopy and lethargic yet I can tell he hasn't given up yet . Before the meds he was giving up ..so I have noticed improvement ...will he ever be how he was ? probably not but I will take what little we have left and love him up My best to you and your dog . I said what do you think ....I not only started taking care of those 2 horses I wound up taking care of the Gelding across the road ...3 Proxy horses that weren't mine yet I got to love them up every day ...I don't care about riding horses much but I sure love being around them... any way when that whole thing went sour I wound up getting Duke in 2013 ...he was less than 2 when I got him... thank for talking with me .
