Praying for snow in Cajun country

It almost never snows here in Southeast Louisiana. Last time was 2009. Theyre showing possible snow here come Tuesday. Im hoping my 6 yr old grandson gets to play in snow for the first time.

Im sure many of you are sick & tired of snow but say a prayer for us anyway 😁. It's a huge treat for the kids here. They finally get to see their favorite holiday movies come to life. Plus, all the schools close. (probably because we Coonasses suck at driving on snow & ice 😄)

Stumbled upon this in my memories again recently. The picture was taken in my hometown the year I was born.

I've very fond memories of Canadian winters as a kid. Especially after seeing Empire Strikes Back, with all the snow.

As an adult, not so much... I do miss it during the holiday season. But just for a couple of days. We rarely get snow here in Vegas and when we do, it usually melts the second it touches the ground. But in February 2019, I got to see a thin layer of snow on my house that remained for several hours.

I'm sure several here would be willing to send their snow to you! 😁

It's looking like we may get plenty.  They're now showing 100% chance of snow for us. I'm feeling pretty good about our chances here.

I was in a dart tournament in Las Vegas back in the 80's in February where it snowed (and stuck!).  Seemed very weird since I had also been in one in late August where it was 129 F!

I remember standing on the corner of the street when the cab dropped us off the first day, my (ex) wife and I looking at each other and going: this is not possible. Something's broken. It cannot possibly be this hot. And that was in September...

This ties in with the Empire Strike Back thing I suppose - it was indeed like moving from Hoth to Tatooine.

Well @T Boog your prayer has been answered.

Now can you pray for it to stop?

I can't leave my house. 🫥

Yup. I was planning to post a pic of my grandson building a snowman but we're still waiting for the snowfall to let up. This is my front yard already...

It's pretty weird to see my Cajun neighborhood dressed up in white 😁

So far this winter, not a single flake. I'm good with that.

Yeah. My hat goes out to those who deal with snow & ice on a regular basis. It was fun for a day but I'll be glad to see it melt away. Im very spoiled to driving whenever & wherever I want. Im so glad the kids got to see it though 👍

Here just north of Seattle we are on almost the exact latitude as Montreal, but unlike Montreal we get little snow. So far this winter, not a single flake. I'm good with that.

Oh, come on Dave!  I've been to Seattle, there's a lot of flakes up there!!! 😜

Even people who live in areas that get snow often have no clue how to drive in it. My roommate in college had a saying that always made me laugh, more because of how/when he said it... "You can't push a rope!" I got to see quite a few vehicles spun out yesterday and could hear him saying that as I passed each one. Ironically, this weather was no surprise to anyone, but my local government neither prepped nor plowed side roads properly, so the amount of ice from the thaw/re-freeze was a bit over the top, even for here. It is a little different world when you have to remind yourself to take a chainsaw with you when you leave the house (I live between two state forests, so wet snow/freezing rain can bring leaning trees down with ease).

It is cool the grand kids got to see it though! I often have people who have never seen snow say they are SO eager to see it... I just tell them, "Yeah, it is cool to look at and play around in for a bit, but that is often about it."

Who knows?  The way things are changing you might get lucky and it will start snowing in LA more than once every 16 years.

I did a snow angel once and didn't like it.  The snow got all into my coat and I was freezing wet the rest of the day.  So I do remember it, but mostly not to try that again.

Did you demonstrate for him T Boog?

Cheers Jesse. No, my daughter did the snow angels with him. He had seen it in movies before though. But yeah, he had a blast. Btw, I measured 11 inches of snow in my backyard. That's def the most I've ever seen. And an hour ago, we got down to 10 degrees. Pretty sure that's the coldest it's been here in my lifetime. 🥶

The Flakiness Index falls off the further north and west you go, but increases exponentially to the east and south. To the east, you come to Sultan/Gold Bar, tweaker capitol of the northwest. To the south, the murder/carjacking/drive-by nexus of White Center / Federal Way. And it generally gets worse the further south you go. The longtime northwesterner knows better than to cross the Columbia River, as Thar Be Dragons.
