Shouldn't you be posting this on Microsoft's forum since a Windows Update precipitated this? That's a lot of vitriol for someone who has apparenly only found it necessary to come to the forum with a problem once in years of using CW.

In any case, it seems you missed this post about CW's fix for Microsoft's blunder:

Thanks David.  I wasn't talking to you but I bet you feel important now, huh?

Good for you.

No problem. I already felt important. 😜

Maybe you guys should try to be nicer and talk respectfully to each other.

Just kidding...  FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!   😄

Cakewalk was that it will only work until Windows breaks it

Hey Sock. The latest Wndows 10 update was making CbB crash on me. So I restored my computer to a week prior and Cakewalk worked fine again. Im not very tech minded so I'm curious how long I can kick the windows update can down the road before I have issues. Could it be possible to get away with no updating for a couple years?

This is a good question. You need to update the group policy in Windows (Pro) to prevent updates, but every so often you get a release of something that requires the latest build. I had Windows locked out for a couple of years, but then installed software requiring 22H2. Because I had locked it out on 20H2, I actually had to force the update because Windows Update would fail out (not a big deal, but Windows wouldn't update itself at that point). It really boils down to an installer requiring X build (although a lot less common than in the Mac world, it does exist).

Im the last person to ask about Windows. Im a person who still has a laptop with XP.  I have 2 with W7 and then 3 with W10 and only one with Windows 11. I just totally keep them updated as life goes on. Never caused me problems ever.  I really don’t fuss about my computer. I just have always updated parts and keep the mechanical stuff in good condition.  The OS is boring part of computers. I could really care less what it is doing. It always seems to be fine.
