Amberwolf
That probably means something else is restoring the "bad" files, probably by reverting changes made (such as to a driver). What else is installed on the machine?

That's a lot of vitriol for someone who has apparenly only found it necessary to come to the forum with a problem once in years of using CW. In any case, it seems you missed this post about CW's fix for Microsoft's blunder: Thanks David. I wasn't talking to you but I bet you feel important now, huh? Good for you.

Sock Monkey
Don’t forget that one of the warnings about the future of Cakewalk was that it will only work until Windows breaks it! Staff are being overly kind in supporting it still. They most certainly have little reason to do so other than being nice guys! 1

The latest Wndows 10 update was making CbB crash on me. So I restored my computer to a week prior and Cakewalk worked fine again. Im not very tech minded so I'm curious how long I can kick the windows update can down the road before I have issues. Could it be possible to get away with no updating for a couple years? You need to update the group policy in Windows (Pro) to prevent updates, but every so often you get a release of something that requires the latest build. I had Windows locked out for a couple of years, but then installed software requiring 22H2. Because I had locked it out on 20H2, I actually had to force the update because Windows Update would fail out (not a big deal, but Windows wouldn't update itself at that point). It really boils down to an installer requiring X build (although a lot less common than in the Mac world, it does exist).

Sock Monkey
Im the last person to ask about Windows. Im a person who still has a laptop with XP. I have 2 with W7 and then 3 with W10 and only one with Windows 11. I just totally keep them updated as life goes on. Never caused me problems ever. I really don’t fuss about my computer. I just have always updated parts and keep the mechanical stuff in good condition. The OS is boring part of computers. I could really care less what it is doing. It always seems to be fine. I don't have time for technical explanations and after so many attempts of trying to make things work I finally just reinstalled Windows and I'm not going to install Sonar or Cakewalk until and unless Band Labs can make it work...period. I'm a (potential) customer of Band Labs and a musician, not a technician and I don't want to be a technician. If I have to be a tech, I'll move on to a different platform regardless of cost and be a tech long enough to learn that platform so that I can be a musician again. It won't take long. Other DAW's (or at least one other...) do work as they're supposed to upon installation. I hope BL fixes this as I have used Cakewalk and the Sonar before it for years and I truly would LOVE for all of this to be the #1 platform in computer recording but at this point I'm just not confident I won't end up burning more time in left brain hell than investing more time in right brain creativity. If you truly want to be musician and not a technician you might want to consider sticking to live shows and recording in professional studios. The DIY nature of todays music business means we all deal with tech problems, doing our own production work, learning the nuts and bolts of mic placement and DAW software. I realize it can be super frustrating, but sadly, that is true regardless of your operating system and DAW software.
