Without going OT (we all know that never happens here), how the h e double hockey sticks are your mixes so good? I guess I was right when I said the magic is in the midrange eh? Do you strictly use meters, have a someone else double check? Pay Craigb to do it for you?

Well, I do have other people double check and make use of forum comments.

I've never used meters (SPAN and such) much. It's all instinct and using the same techniques that worked in the past.

Oh yeah, I mainly mix in headphones and crank those suckers up to 11.

  2. 31 - 3K

I'm 68 and had serious genetic inner ear damage in my left ear in the 80s (Doc said I should be stone deaf and it's a miracle I can hear anything there). Right ear has been failing for over 10 years now. 10 years ago I could hear up 6K pretty clearly. Hearing aids help but on the flip side when I wear them I hear even the whisp of a leave in the wind to major distraction.

  3. I have an 1976 Series I Alembic Bass. I am technically the original owner although it was actually first owned new by a young kid for about two weeks before I bought it.

Oh yeah, my son is a much better and somewhat famous musician in the Death Metal Scene. One degree of separation there.

The most important thing I ever did (in the software industry) was create a product that was used for many years by Boeing in St. Louis, MO back in the 80s.

Of course there was over 80K posts on the old cakewalk forum. Does that make me a bad person?

Pretty much the same for me. Although by that time I was already programming in Fortran, Cobol and Basic on the HP-3000 Series III "mini computer" at work.

Yes, it was referred to as a mini computer and compared to some IBM 360 installations I had seen, it was even though those units were just under 6 feet tall filled with sooooooo much air inside.

Ask why anyone is actually using Studio One that is a Windows only user and I think you will find the answer comes down to features.

    Yup, this.

CbB is like an ex band mate that I'm still friends with. Maybe a collab or two over the years.

Full disclosure: I do have a 2013 MacBook Pro where I can run all of my multi-platform DAWs plus Logic X. In other words, I'm not a truly Windows only user.

Ed-  Thank you once again for your support.  When you say you are having trouble hearing the lyrics, I have a question that would help me.  Do you feel the vocal is not loud enough, or are there just a few lines of the lyrics that are just hard to understand the words?

Fixed...credit for Drum's.  Didn't mean to short credit Sean as he did an excellent job programming them before I sprinkled a little fairy dust on the final track.

Louder might be the answer, or some EQ to make the vocal cut through the mix a little more. It's *almost* like they are muffled/masked.

Thanks Bapu. I actually went with Studio One when Sonar started to sink. Didn't know that Reaper/Mixbus had good support too; the workflow in SO suits me though so it's all good from my point of view.

Yep, I'm SO centric now too. I am working ProTools for a project. Strange days.

Me too. Well... that and the fact that I fancied the look of a FaderPort and wanted the DAW with the best support.

    Tightest support = Studio One /Reaper/Mixbus/Mixbus 32C

OK Support = CbB, requires reset to SONAR/Cakewalk mode

Weak Support (flakey) = ProTools 2020, works most of the time, but requires reset of device occasionally when in required HUI mode.

I have not tried it in Cubase, Logic X, or Digital Performer yet. I won't even waste my time on Mixcraft 9 or Samplitude X5 as I never really use those.

I had trouble making out the lyrics, but enjoyed the song nonetheless.

    +1 Michael

    No credit for the drums?
