It's the curse of high expectations. I can sympathize. It helps to keep reminding myself it's OK if my music doesn't sound as good as the music of professional musicians who are professionally recorded and produced. I can still enjoy doing it, just like I used to enjoy playing football or basketball even though lots of people were better than I was.

Windows Spinning Start Circle on Cakewalk Start Screen -- Fixed!
henkejs replied to henkejs's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I rolled back to the previous update just now and that didn't fix the problem. -
Windows Spinning Start Circle on Cakewalk Start Screen -- Fixed!
henkejs replied to henkejs's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Thanks for the suggestions. Double-clicking a project name opens the project OK. There are no zip files in the media browser folder or subfolders. Finally, Cakewalk rarely hangs completely for me, though it often displays "unresponsive" briefly while opening a project. Next time I get a hang, I'll use procdump to generate a minidump file. -
Windows Spinning Start Circle on Cakewalk Start Screen -- Fixed!
henkejs replied to henkejs's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
OK, I'll ignore the start screen processes. The spinning start circle is still a problem, though. It makes the mouse pointer sluggish, probably from the heavy CPU draw while Cakewalk is waiting for me to select a project. -
Windows Spinning Start Circle on Cakewalk Start Screen -- Fixed!
henkejs replied to henkejs's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I looked to confirm the .exe was on the AV exception list. Then I decided to look at the processes that start up with Cakewalk. There were three instances of cakewalkstartscreen.exe running, so I added that file to the AV exception list. That did nothing to cure the perpetually spinning start circle problem. Now I'm wondering why Cakewalk needs to start three instances of cakewalkstartscreen.exe. -
When I start Cakewalk, but before I've opened a project, the blue Windows start circle starts spinning and won't stop no mater how long the screen is open. While it's spinning, the Windows Task Manager shows a lot of CPU activity and a small amount of disk activity for the Cakewalk process. Both will continue until I open a project, then everything settles down as soon as the project finishes loading. I thought at first Cakewalk might be running a VST scan, but automatic scans are disabled. Another odd symptom: if I leave Cakewalk open on the start screen while I switch to a web browser or a media player, I can't run any kind of video while the start circle is spinning in Cakewalk. Other applications run fine. I think this behavior started with the last Cakewalk update, at least I don't remember seeing it before. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering what Cakewalk is doing while it's waiting for me to select a project and why it's preventing videos from running.

Best wishes to you both!

Yes. My wife loved them.

About 9" both hands here. I can get an octave plus a minor third without too much trouble.

To paraphrase Phyllis Diller, if your great-grandkids insist on writing their names in the dust tell them not the write the year.

I've seen this error when the USB connection got jostled. A problem with the connection could be in the cable or even in the USB port itself. Have you tried a different port?

Do your vocal tracks have any extra take lanes left over from comping? I remember something like this happening when a clip got muted somehow. I had to open up the take lanes and manually unmute. Edit: Please ignore. My case was different from what you're seeing.

Do you use these plugins with Cakewalk? As usual, it's not listed as a supported host.

Many, but not all , Costco stores have a hearing aid department. They sell reasonable quality equipment for less than you would pay in most other places and will assist you in fitting and programming the equipment you buy. They can also help you decide what style of hearing aids are likely to give you the best results. The kind I have are small and fairly comfortable. I like them because they don't completely block the ear canal and you still get a fair amount of natural sound in the frequencies where your hearing is less impaired. I do have to fiddle with the glasses a little bit to get them to sit right.

Welcome to the club. I use ReSound over-the-ear hearing aids bought at Costco several years ago. Since it's a bother to put them in and take them out all the time, I tend to leave them in when using open-backed headphones that rest lightly on the ears. However, for me it's more comfortable to take them out when using closed back headphones that fit more tightly, especially when I have my glasses on. I've never done a careful experiment to determine whether the hearing aids actually contribute anything to the sound coming from the headphones so I'm curious too what other people think.

Hope you're celebrating, Dave! Will there be cake?

The real instrument vs. vsti quiz brought home to me that it wasn't so much about which sounded more realistic as it was about which sounded "better" or more appealing. In real life there are huge differences even among real instruments depending on the instruments used and the techniques/equipment by which they were recorded. A given recording may simply sound better to our ears. Now virtual instruments add another set of aesthetic choices. Regardless of how it was created, which sound do you like best.

This frustrated me too after the last update. Here's what I found: right click the Taskbar and select "News and Interests" from the popup menu. You can shut it off from there. Not sure whether there's an unwanted service for it still running in the background somewhere.

Mix Compensation for Hearing Impairment?
henkejs replied to rontarrant's topic in Production Techniques
Significant hearing loss in one ear makes me mistrust my own choices in panning and levels during mixing. Has anybody else experimented with setting the master bus to mono occasionally to see if the levels of the different parts work that way? Maybe this brings the issue of panning laws into the equation. -
For a while now, my update settings page says version 21H1 is available whenever I want to download and install it. I've just been ignoring the message and taking the regular maintenance updates as they come along. How long Windows will let this go on before it forces the 21H1 update on me?

I Am a Fien and Getting More Like One Everyday
henkejs replied to bayoubill's topic in The Coffee House
Sorry to hear the news. Condolences to family and friends. . . -
Dan, when you say "muted" do you mean somewhat quieter or completely silent? If the sound is off entirely, then Cakewalk is probably sending a MIDI Local Off message to your Clavinova when it boots up. This message tells the Clavinova not to respond when its keys are played. If that's the case, you can set Cakewalk not to send this message.

New CAL script - convert Controller to AfterTouch
henkejs replied to Nigel Mackay's topic in Instruments & Effects
Thanks Promidi and Nigel. You've solved my problem. Much faster than editing events one by one in Event View! -
I just got Xpand!2 also. Works fine here. Have you double-checked the usual configuration settings: Input, MIDI channel, Input Echo=on, etc.?
