By any chance does your system have a built in intel / realtek soundcard or similar on the board? If so maybe disconnect the M-Audio, Fast Track Ultra 8R and see if the software after reboot picks up and uses that internal soundcard? This would discount the M-Audio as the issue maybe or maybe not

@RummieGit Did you install it via next next defaults and accepted what it said about where it installed? If so .. try this. Uninstall it but this time go custom route to select what folder it installs to. For example I have all my audio apps installed in c:\audio apps and audio data like VSTs installed in c:\audio data\vst plugins64 If you go this route make sure you add the new folders in CW prefs, vst settings so it can find the AIR Drumsynth 500 vst. I am only proposing this because maybe it is getting installed in program files or somewhere that security issues get in the way. Its a long shot

@Starship Krupa @mettelus I went the CLEAN install in the end as i always do. I was having trouble with each clone application inc Samsungs .. some sort of error on old source drive ( which only came up after hours at the end of the samsung software process 7 failed ) that would have meant doing a complete chkdsk/r .. which being a 2TB drive would have taken almost the time a clean install would have. Once i am happy with that clean install I intend formatting that old drive now in an ext usb caddy and use it for backups etc. The EVO 870 drive is a flier .. the difference is night and day. Its turned my Dell Inspiron 17" laptop ( 16GB ram ) into a system arguably faster than many new systems i set up for clients. Great investment so far TBH in all my years trying cloning etc I have NEVER had a positive no quible experience with it, always some stupid error like above poping up after hours of letting the clone happen.

And remember those TEXT based adventure games like THE HOBBIT on C64 etc? Very simple, yet engaging, I remember spending hours on these with a buddy .. he had the C64 at the time. memories flood back

I decided to go the fresh install route. I stuck the old drive into a USB caddy and attached. The used a forgotten command in a DOS window ( via CMD, admin ) ROBOCOPY Compared to using windows / File explorer / drag drop etc to copy from USB to HD or internally, its like a rocket. So if you have a folder on USB ( eg F drive ) called cakewalk the command at c:\ dos prompt ( via CMD ) is: robocopy f:\cakewalk c:\cakewalk /E The /E copies any other sub folders also inside the cakewalk folder The only other thing is if a folder name is more than one word then surround both source and dest links with inverted commas: robocopy "f:\cakewalk files" "c:\cakewalk files" /E

@jesse g Was only alerting people in case they ( like me ) unwittingly went and buy expansions they already have is all .. reason for my post, not saying you have too many expansions

BTW .. just tried the Samsung Clone tool from existing drive to new Samsung SSD attached to USB3 port. 4 hours, got to 99% then failed unknown reason, very helpful. Now trying Macrium FREE. But i wonder is is better to just clean install rather than clone in the longrun?

Be careful if you already have KOMPLETE .. many expansions come with it. Unfortunately I stumbled on that front a while back and ended up ordering expansions i didnt realise I had already .. forgot to look at the list of expansions that came with Komplete. In fairness NI refunded me

@Tezza Any specific make you could recommend? I see alot of them on Amazon with varied reviews of flimsy, bad build etc

I have an Inspiron 7000 series 17" .. the 7377. Im afraid it only has space for 1 HD right of the battery looking underneath. The other way is via a HD Caddy which replaces the DVD drive unit Im not sure how good these are BUT for about $10 or so its surely worth a punt. I wonder has anyone else got one of these here?

To bookend this thread .. I went and bought a Samsung 2TB EVO 870 SSD for €208 on amazon dot de ( In Ireland ( we are in the EU ) so cant really use dot co dot uk anymore after Brexit .. attract excise etc ). Ordered last Wednesday, arrived today. Currently attached via USB 3 port to my laptop CLONING using the Samsung Clone software. About 4 or 5 hours to do. For me £22 or €25 would be about 4 pints on a night out when we used do that and maybe a chips and burger on walk home .. so for a years worth of mags and lots of decent instruments, samples etc its definitely a great bargain

IK Multimedia installation and utilitys is such a complete MESS. Just ONE utility that functions properly for everything would be enough. At the moment is custom shop, IK Product Manager, Authorization Manager Product Manager is the complete opposite of what its name says. Another mess of a utility. And then this limited time to download backups of your products before you have to pay for the privilege again.

I have this installed but as usual with IK stuff, I cannot find it in sampletank 4. Found it .. via Sampletank 4 open click on the INSTRUMENT Column on one of the program rows to bring up the library on the left, scroll down to Synthwave Hitmaker

Its not that clear I dont think. Does that mean if you own ANY OTHER Beatmaker product you can crossgrade? It just says Loyalty deal for Beatmaker 2 owners ..
