  1. Has anyone run the numbers comparing cost of Sphere to S1 Purchase over the course of say 3 years, assuming one keeps up with upgrades? I saw something somewhere...
  2. I'm love the remixes and the demos, especially the Abbey Road package - and I'm a mega Beatles fan. I know what you mean by the instruments being too discrete - sometimes stacked or smeared sounds of the originals are cool because they blur the boundaries of where one thing ends and another begins. Having said that, I rarely go back to the originals. I just really like clarity. I listen on headphones 97% of the time. Yes, the bass could be evened out on AR, but having better drums and a nice stereo spread is worth it for me.
  3. In order to perform polyphonic audio to MIDI conversion in Mixcraft 9, you need to have Melodyne 5 Editor or Studio installed. It is the same for Cakewalk.
  4. Do you remember the joy and amazement of being able to record 4 tracks, overdub and bounce, all in the same machine? ?
  5. I'm not seeing the promotion. Is there a license serial you are supposed to use after downloading?
  6. I still have my Tascam Porta-studio 244 - the tape operates at 2x normal, for increased fidelity.
  7. It's pretty cool that you are looking at the staff view code and can actually decipher it. ?
  8. I would like to amend my feature request for a chord track in Cakewalk. Since there are powerful and reasonably priced composition and audio tools like Scaler 2 and Melodyne Essential 5x, I would submit that the primary base feature which provide the most bang for the buck would be the implementation of the Chord Track itself in Cakewalk. Resembling the Arranger Track, the Chord Track would display the chord names and/or scale names at points along the project timeline. At the very least, MIDI data in selected tracks would "snap" to the corresponding chords / scales and audio in selected tracks would be transposed based on the root note of the chords / scales. If the "snapping" would be destructive, it would be desireable to be able to undo or reset to the original state. One key to the successful implementation of the Cakewalk Chord Track would be the its ability to at least import chord data from tools like Scaler 2 and Melodyne, so that composition and audio analyisis features need not be present in the initial version of the Chord Track. A Scaler 2 feature I requested to enable auditioning of chords in the Circle of Fifths tool has been implemented in the latest update. Also, in all editions of Melodyne 5, there is the ability to extract chords by analyzing audio. By reducing the scope of the initial effort by the Bakers, I'm hoping that the odds of implementation are more realistic. 9. I Wanna Hold Your Gland - John Lennon
  10. How does SM compare with Vital? Also, I haven't seen any demo of the SM arpeggiator in chord / sequence mode. Can you trigger that with a single key? What if you trigger it with multiple keys? Does it transpose chromatically or diatonically? Inquiring minds... EDIT: I checked my copy of SM Play and found that there were patches in the SEQ category, with the word Poly in the name. You can indeed trigger poly sequences with one key and they can be transposed chromatically.
  11. Most DAWs are overkill for me, but usually have a couple of features which are important to me. If CbB, Mixcraft or REAPER added a chord track, it's all I would need in combination with Scaler and Melodyne Editor (for chord dectection from poly audio).
  12. "This is the final update for the Cubase 10.5 generation. The next maintenance update for Cubase 11 is scheduled for early April."
  13. Mixcraft - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF1zbODj2-Q&list=PLofp4liZQx9uaC7zGgwVa6LzwBhEMpgPC&index=2
  14. Hoping this is not a vailed reference to a subscription offering...
  15. Hmm... I can't think of any... LP - no chord track S1 - no clip launching CW - no chord track LV - no notation editing, no chord track CB - no clip launching PT - no chord track, no clip launching RE - no chord track (native), no clip launching (native) MC - no chord track BW - no notation editing SP - no chord track, no clip launching FL - no chord track, no notation editing
  16. I don't know what I was thinking - d'oh! Well in keeping with the thread, I might be getting Cubase 11 for $180.
  17. So I cross-graded to 10.0 in May of 2019, which I have not registered yet. I'm thinking I'll wait until 11.5, because I don't want to have to wait until November, 2021 for 12.0. I've been messing with REAPER, Mixcraft, Scaler and Melodyne. Also played with the lockdown version of Cubase Elements 10.5. Time to finally get on board with Cubase...
  18. He was my gateway into jazz and all the different styles of music he made, and a constant for me since I was 15. Chick had all his faculties right up until the end. What a touchstone.
  19. Be careful - I read somewhere that Studio One version 4 / 5 projects can not be loaded into version 3x or lower.
  20. That version comparison may be inaccurate. I know for sure I was able to convert audio to MIDI in Mixcraft 9 Pro Studio once I upgraded the included Melodyne Essential to version 5. I have since upgraded to Editor version 5 - Editor and Studio should both be able to convert polyphonic audio to MIDI.
  21. Funny, with DAWs, it seems that there is no DAW which features all 3 of these features: Notation editing Clip launching Chord track There must be some sort of secret agreement between members of the DAW creator community ?
  22. No company wants to write notation functionality from scratch - the logical and fashionable thing to do is buy or incorporate existing product functionality - Studio One (Notion) Pro Tools (Sibelious) Cubase (Dorico) - ok, they built their own, but they later assembled former Sibelius folks and built Dorico, but Cubase 11 implemented some Dorico funtionality Sonar (Gibson passed on the opportunity to have Overture functionality) The exceptions are Emagic Notator (Logic) and REAPER (who decided to roll up their sleeve and just write a pretty decent score editor). Calkwalk's Staff Editor is decent for MIDI composing and editing (see JSG's work). However, there may be a missed opportunity to be the de facto standard academic Windows music environment by not including improved notation functionality (if anyone feels that's important).
