  1. An exquisite song! It made me very happy and in a better mood. What more can I say? Oh yeah, nice photography!
  2. Tim, this is a gem! I imagine that it is a fun song to mix, having so much on your palette. I like the way you used Addictive Drums on this to give the song that deep undercurrent that is so cool. Your creativity is off the charts!

I'm a little late to this party, but boy, that was fun! It shows your depth in songwriting and growth in production. It reminded me of a Pink Floyd concert that I went to many moons ago. Congrats on this one, Jack!
  4. I listened to this song several times, and I heard something new each time! It has a great hook, and your vocals are so good for this style! This is the kind of song that I love to mix over and over, just to enjoy it and hear it from different angles. I missed the first mix, so I don't know where you started from, but I can see where this is going. The only thing that I noticed was that the bass sometimes seemed like it was in a different space than the rest of the instruments. IOW, I felt it lacking a bit of "glue". That is a thought that may not have any weight because when I listen tomorrow, it may sound completely different to my ears. Anyway, I love the song with your voice and passion very much!
  5. Stellar music and a stunning video! Your take on the video is right on! Once upon a time, I used to be in a horn band, so the volume of the horns were about right for me. Do you mind if I borrow this song as a template for mixing? When I hear how pristine your mixes are, I start to understand what you are telling me about mine. Please, Phobra, keep writing masterpieces like this.
  6. Well done, gentlemen! Your writing and production keeps getting better, and I always look forward to hearing your songs. If anything, I think the vocals could be a tad tighter in pitch, but not time. Otherwise, this is a gem and a fun listen!
  7. This is a thought provoking song, for sure, but it's also very entertaining! I love your music, your style, and your wit. Regardless of which side you're on, I find your songs to be inspiring. Well done!
  8. This is a very solid song! I walked around my studio on my second listen to hear this mix from different perspectives, and it works all over the place. You always make me feel that you're writing from life experience which gives your songs authenticity. But, WOW, what a life you've lead! My hats off to you, one of the more prolific writers on this site.
  9. Mark, it's good to hear from you! This song is terrific which is encouraging because I use many of the same tools that you use. However, a Beatles song in my hands wouldn't get the same milage. I've always been a big fan of yours which is why your are bookmarked for me. Keep it going!
  10. Hi, Tom! Thanks for your feedback! I'm not using any compression on the master, just the tracks individually. I use Adaptive Limiter after it's been mixed (Medium Adaptive mode), and only just a tad to raise the overall level by about 3db with headroom set at 0.4db. Frankly, I don't hear what you are hearing on my KRK Rokit 8's, nor my Sennheiser HD Pro 300 headphones. However, my ears are Not golden, thus, I come here for advice. I'll be aware of this from now on. I may be pushing the envelope too much. Douglas, thank you for your kind words and encouragement. It's always good to hear from you! Wookie, I value your ears and words, so this made my day! Thanks, mate! Thank you Nigel for your time and reply! I can't wait to hear your new material. Stay safe!
  11. Yes, I've tried all these methods and a few more. I use them if I think they're necessary. Thanks for your time! Thank you for listening! I'm glad you like the percussion which comes from Superior Drummer 3. It's very close to my original recordings. SSD's are my next step. I have all the storage in the world, but a fast SSD for my samples would help greatly. As for hobbies, I used to throw darts, but not blow them Hey Jesse, it's good to hear from you! Thank you for your kind words and ears. The mallets are "50's Vibraphone" from Dimension Pro, btw.

    Shirin

Wow, I like this from beginning to end. It's a very meditative piece which reminds me of the "Magical Mystery Tour" era of the Beatles. Sitar anyone? Your productions are truly top notch with so much depth and spaciousness. It also helps to have never ending creativity!
  13. The Grand Ole Opry is calling you! A stunner, Gary! I'll be looking at ribbon mics before long~~~
  14. Mark, you've given life to this song in an arrangement that is very much your own. I think it will stand the test of time without any further work. As others have said, your voice is the star of this piece; smoky and emotional, it makes me believe what you're singing about. You are truly a goldmine! I'm going to have to try out those brushes on one of my tunes someday. I forgot how useful TTS can be. Keep up the good work!

    ALWAYS T2

Another great song in a long list of great songs! It filled my listening space with lush sounds, terrific lyrics, and your expressive voice. The arrangement is impressive because it builds as it goes along pulling it with me. I always find your work inspiring, and I will endeavor to bring my own songs up to your level. thank, mate!

    Anyway

This is a beautiful song, and the production is fabulous! You keep raising the bar for all of us. Keep it up!!
  17. Jack, thank you for your time and remarks! Perhaps you could share your method of blending lead vocal for "a more full sound"? Paul, I'm so happy to hear from you! I'm glad this struck a chord with you. I'll take your suggestion about leaving it be, for now! Hi David, I love your comments (as always), and I wish I knew more about color! In todays climate, the lyrics may be dangerous, but when I wrote this they were just silly Steve, you ask good questions! First, I'm glad to be back, and second I'm ready to rock 2022. I replaced my 12 year old, first generation i7 processor with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600-6 cores @3.7 gigs with 32 gigs of memory, and a new video board to be 4k ready as soon as I get a camera that's 4k ready. I had to wipe Window 10 and reinstall most of my apps, but was able to do so after a few weeks. As for the curare (should be an accent over the letter a), it's the drug used on poison blow gun darts in South American jungles. It's a paralyzing agent, sometimes used in surgery to quiet a muscle, for those who don't know. This song is the scientist in me coming out. Mark, you make me happy! I have a super backup plan in place now should I ever break my computer again, so I shouldn't be down as long. Actually, the motherboard gave me 12 good years and died a happy death of old age.

    Curare Blues

Hello to all my CW friends and a belated Happy New Year to all! Just before Thanksgiving, the motherboard in my computer gave up the ghost, so I've been rebuilding and repairing it since then. After I got just about everything restored, I recorded this song to check my system. So far, all is well and working better than ever. I wrote this ditty in 1979, but had lost all good recordings of it, so I decided that it needed updating. As always, thank you for your time and ideas. I look forward to hearing all the new songs on this site, so I'll be busy for a while, "Curare Blues" can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8k2kb
  19. Sorry to highjack this thread, but I'm having no success downloading CCC from the Cakewalk website using Edge or Chrome in W10. Any ideas? I'm trying to reactivate Rapture Pro, Dimension Pro 1.5, and other legacy CW vst's into my new computer. They're downloaded but in demo mode.
  20. Under Options (in track view) turn off Stop at Project End and you can practice with the metronome by hitting play.
  21. I love the way this subtly builds up and becomes mesmerizing as it goes along. It's very haunting, as it should be, and that's easier said than done. All in all, brilliant!
  22. There you go, setting the bar ever higher! Fabulous!!
  23. Beautiful song, Douglas! This is polished, but not overly so, and has a certain vibe that draws me in. Should be heard by many.
  24. Steve, this has always been one of my favorite songs of yours. It gets better every time I hear it! Have a merry Christmas and happy new year!
