I use and like the VPRE-73. A LOT! It's got a nice grit to it and some features you don't see on most saturators. However, I also got the Magnetite on sale and was very excited about it. This one I am very "meh" on and am still looking for a use for it. The jury is out on this one. But that's it for me, the other plugins have always been too $$ and now I'm pretty much set with compressor for the next couple of lifetimes...

No, that would be me...

When Sonar went belly-up, the Nomad guys very graciously gave users a deeply discounted upgrade to their stuff. Sadly, I never used the coupon and it no longer works... ? I DO use Bus Driver fairly often and quite like it, and I'd suspect these have similar saturation algorithms, but that's just a wild-@ss guess...

There's a few threads on the Presonus forum and some goods videos on Production Expert. It's a little controversial because of some Crosstalk "bugs", but I love the one that comes with Studio One and am thinking really hard about this one. My niggling beef is that they have given it away to new users recently and IMHO it should be part of the professional version of the DAW... (Now get out of my yard you damn kids! Hrmph! ) ===== Here you go James. As I said, I'm thinking hard about this one - I have it bookmarked. https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/studio-one//6-things-you-should-know-about-the-ctc-1-pro-console-shaper-from-ari-ahrendt

Yep. But if you're patient you can usually get CM for $5. It's also worth keeping an eye out for their "monthly giveaway". I've bought a few times just for those. But, $19 plus the freebie is a totally good deal IMHO.

Sidewidener is really good. It's nice to have the different flavors and tones. I got it with the Computer Music bundle - that's the best way to get it. Then you get scads of other plugins too. JST Clip is great too. Boz programmed that one too.

If you leave something in the cart, they used to email you a discount coupon after a day or two...

Thanks fro the reply - I'll definitely dig up Marcus' videos. Definitely! And this brings us back around to the OP. It IS handy to have the 3 different saturation flavors right there on the plugin, and FrontDAW's sound pretty darn good too! ?

I got the Black Rooster's Magnetite hoping for miracles and still haven't found a good use for it - or at least a place where I liked it. Nothing at all like the first time I tried out SO's Console Shaper.
-
CTC-1 (and Softube's Tape) are MixFX and work at a "lower level" than a typical plugin, allowing for things like Crosstalk. That's the thing that is so appealing. Also, I think their baked in stand Console Shaper sounds really convincing, and opens things up like magic - IMHO.

If I use a gate, I reach for this one. The added EQing feature definitely gives you options. I seem to recall getting it on a $19 sale, but can't remember.
-
Huh? Thanks! I think it was that Dec 2017 sale where I almost got it before. Presonus sure doesn't seem to "advertise" these sales! Now this will sound really cheap, but sadly, I've been picking up $10-$20 plugins over the last couple of months, so my "no brainer" level has dropped a bit lately. Still, I am VERY tempted! I do have a couple of quick questions. "ensconsed" seems to like it fine. How do YOU like it? Anyone know if there is there such a thing as a coupon for Presonus?? ?
-
AND he even beat you on your own thread. Such naivety is adorable. ? But you DO get points for trying!
-
Funny, because I was literally looking at this bundle to round out my collection from this dev of cheap plugins that look like I'd use them but never seem to....
-
Just a post about a "future" product and without a link?? Dunno, seems a bit of a stretch to me... ?
-
Oh, sorry, I misread your post! ?
-
I don't qualify for the upgrade and it worked in my shopping cart. $99
-
And what GREAT customer service!
-
I was going to ask and verify this very question: because I don't WUP, I have no plugins I can use in SOC. When I first got it, I could. I wonder if I can roll back to a previous version? Yes, excellent concept, but useless in practice for us WUPless schmucks - same with the Scheps....
-
What is this "budget" thing you speak of?
-
Sadly, just the original. I've been wanting to pick those up so badly, but they never go on sale! At least not on a no-brainer sale which is more my speed. ?
-
Agree. If the US is still too "dirty", I like Studio One's built in Console Shaper. That's pretty much "ON" on all of my mixes to varying degrees too. Also, after the demo runs out, knobs fall off leaving you with just the British style saturation and no hi-pass or Mojo....
-
I use Studio One. Just like they suggest, FrontDaw is the first plugin insert. Just dial in the amount of saturation you want with the input, then Hi-Pass to taste, then cycle through the flavors of saturation. I find British darker, US more clean and open, and German more gritty. Then play with the Mojo until you like it. It doesn't work for every track, but darn near. Really a great plugin! * * It just needs an Output Level knob!
-
So glad I got this when it first came out! I just wish they'd go to the trouble to add an Output Level knob to this for gain staging. That would make it just about perfect! I've been using this one and Hyperspace on just about every mix these days. Great plugins - and totally worth $19 if you don't have it!
