For regular VST2/3 plug-ins try removing all the .txt files in %appdata%\Softube Version 2.4.96.0 of the Softube VST2/PC modules crash CbB when loaded as a PC modules. AFAIK, Softube has not been helpful at all with this problem. To use the Softube PC modules requires installing an older version of the VST2 modules. For a couple of different ways to deal with this see and the post below it.

TTS how to change imported MIDI file defaults
scook replied to jm52's topic in Instruments & Effects
Dropping the file into an existing project is an import. This strips any tempo data from the file. This is probably not what you want to do. Dropping the file into CbB without an open project opens the MIDI file. As long as no MIDI output device is specified in preferences, TTS-1 will automatically be added with instruments assigned based on the MIDI file. This is probably how you should start. Once the project is opened either by dropping the file on an empty track view or using the menu File > Open, instruments may be changed using the drop downs shown in "C" in the image above. Use the second drop down selected the bank probably either "15488-Preset Normal 0" or "15360-Preset Rhythm". Then use the third drop down to select the instrument. Once all the assignments are made, save the file using File > Save to overwrite the existing MIDI file or File > Save As (or File > Save Copy As) to create a new MIDI file. This will have the new initial instrument settings saved in a MIDI file. If instruments are changing during playback, there are program changes in the file. These will need to be edited in the Event List View. -
AFAIK, BA was originally designed as a front end to BandLab the web-based DAW created by BandLab Technologies. It is maintained by a group in Singapore NOT the CbB developers. It was extended to handle delivery and activation of CbB replacing the functions provided by Cakewalk Command Center. The 2020.09 in-app updater is the first phase of eliminating dependence on BA. Using the in-app updater does not refresh activation so until CbB can perform its own activation, BA will need to perform this task every 6 months.
-
If this is the case, the installer should be available to run manually from %appdata%\bandlab-assistant\Downloads Once this update is completed, new updates are performed directly from CbB. From https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/19403-current-release-202009/&tab=comments#comment-164035

TTS how to change imported MIDI file defaults
scook replied to jm52's topic in Instruments & Effects
When working with complete MIDI files do not use import and export, use open and save. Remember when saving MIDI files they will not save VST instrument selections and settings but will save MIDI settings made in the track inspector ("C" in the image below) and header. Saving as Cakewalk projects remember all project changes. -
How do I use a MIDI plugin with a VST? Is it possible?
scook replied to Laurence Levin's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes, in addition to track FX racks, all clips have their own FX Rack -
The readme included with the Tools Editor has an image of a SoundForge setup

The only time one should import a MIDI file is when adding it to an existing project. Instead of importing try using File > Open Before opening the file make sure nothing is selected as a MIDI output device in preferences. Do this will automatically add TTS-1 to the project when opening MIDI files. To change instruments use the drop down (instruments are just below "C" in the image) in either the inspector or track header.

This is loaded by every project. It is used by CbB for the metronome.

yes, the step sequencer does not update until the project is reloaded. I will put in a bug report.

How do I use a MIDI plugin with a VST? Is it possible?
scook replied to Laurence Levin's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
This works but is not necessary. The MIDI FX rack ("B" in the image below) is in the MIDI tab ("T") of the inspector for a simple instrument track. -
AFAIK, only two other plug-ins support this feature (Cakewalk Session Drummer and FXpansion BFD3) and both only change the notes mapped to the instruments in the plug-ins. They leave the rest of alone. They show up as MIDI note numbers.
-
No Try one of the free Code FN42 plug-ins mentioned above. They both load up as synths and are designed to pass MIDI data. On their own they make no sound but will still need a Simple Instrument Track or audio+MIDI pair. For plug-ins like these I use a SIT.
-
AFAIK no Ample Sound products have ever been bundled with SONAR or Cakewalk by BandLab. Here are the synths bundled with CbB

The two program files needed to be added at installation
scook replied to Dean's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Where does it say These are not part of a standard Windows installation. Some plug-in manufacturers use these folders by default (the second should be "C:\program files\vstplugins" no space between vst and plug-ins) but the locations are optional and the installers create them as needed. When installing VST2 plug-ins most installers provide a way to designate where the plug-ins are installed. This may be one of these paths or somewhere else. Where ever the plug-ins are installed, the most important thing is make sure the path is in Cakewalk VST scan path in preferences. -

How To Setup A Peavey Studiomix In Cakewalk By Bandlab?
scook replied to albert williams's question in Q&A
It may be looking for a version of SONAR. support@cakewalk.com may be able to help with this. -
It is up to the plug-in manufacturer to add the appropriate code to their plug-ins to support automatic VST2-to-VST3 migration. AFAIK, few do this. Melda Production does not.

IDK much about controllers and their software. IIRC the dlls were dropped from SONAR distributions some time ago so they are not part of the CbB installer either. Here is a KB article that may help https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013438/Control-Surface-Installers -
Notice the Record mode is in the Project preference settings. Project preferences are stored in project and project template files. To create projects with different project preference settings create a new project template with the project preferences set as desired. Then use the new project template whenever creating new projects. Do NOT modify templates supplied by BandLab unless the templates are stored in a non-default location. Modifying templates supplied by BandLab stored in the default location may be overwritten by updates. Templates stored in non-default locations are not subject to change by update. The location for projects templates is stored in templates in File preferences. The new template may be set as the default by clicking on the star in the upper-left of the template icon in the start screen or the "Set as default template" button in New Project File dialog
